My eyes look horrible when I wake up. They are swollen and they are already small to begin with so I look kinda look like I got beat up.I get enough sleep, (usually around 8 hours) and I dont wear makeup to bed either. I have a skin care routine that I follow, and none of the products irritate me. (This eye thing has been a problem forever, even before I used any skin care products at all.) In fact, I have been using Babor Sensational Eyes Eye Cream and that helped a little, but is there any product or home remedy I could use so that I dont scare my future husband in the mornings? |

Angelwings:
Sorry to hear you are suffering with this. Here are a few possibilities for you to consider:
The most likely culprit of swollen eyes is water retention caused by a diet high in sodium. Other dietary causes can be excessive alcohol or caffeine consumption. Can you reduce the sodium intake in your diet? What about caffeine (both pop & coffee)?
If it is not diet related it may be caused by allergies or sinus troubles. (Any genetic disposition to either?) If it is caused by an allergy, taking Claritin for a week or two may clear it up.
Until you can figure out what is causing the swelling the following should help to get rid of it quickly upon waking up in the morning:
Keep 2 teaspoons in the freezer overnight. Gently press one teaspoon cup over each eye for about 7 minutes every morning.
Keep a cup of water with several green tea bags in the refrigerator. When you wake-up place a cold tea bag over each eye for 7-10 minutes.

I agree diet plays a role in morning swelling of the eyes. Reduce sodium and drink more water. Sleeping with your head elevated helps keep the puffies down. Years ago I did the spoons in freezer trick. IMO the extreme cold placed against your delicate eye area is damaging to the tissue. |

Angelwings, this happened to me just last week...usually dark circles are my big eye area problem, and sometimes in the spring I get puffy eyes due to allergies, but not in the winter. I think it probably does have something to do with sodium intake since nothing in my skincare routine was any different. My eyes looked terrible when I woke up and they really didn't look any better as the day went on.
I had received a box of DHC Revitalizing Moisture Eye Strips in a recent swap so I decided to put them on before going to bed...hoping for a small miracle. They're really quite comfortable...I thought they were going to be like Frownies, but they're actually soft and spongy! And I was amazed at how good my eyes looked the next morning...and the rest of the day! They don't need to be left on all night...I think the package says just 20-30 minutes, but I figured what the heck...it can't hurt. Has anyone else tried these? I used them only the one time last week, but plan on keeping some around for emergencies! Here's a link:

Here is a site I came across that offers some additional remedies for swollen/puffy eyes:
