Hey Girls,
So I'm on the market for a new foundation or powder. I've been using liquid foundation for quite some time. Primarily to even out my skin tone and cover old acne scars. I have in the past used MAC's pressed foundation powder but for some reason it breaks me out now. I occassionally put loose powder on top of my foundation but that also breaks me out. I am looking for an everyday type of thing. It doesn't have to be a powder or foundation, just something to even out my skin. Oh btw, I was using Bobby Brown's foundation but have been tight on cash so I've been using Sephora's brand.
Any recommendations?
Oh also, how many of u use a foundation primer? I bought one but hardly use it.
Thanks in advance,
Anna |

Hi again Hayleighs_Mom,
It could be the talc in those powders that is causing you to break out.
There are lot of mineral makeups on the market ... and they don't have talc. The beauty of the minerals is that it's made up of "minerals" [think crushed rocks] and is recommended for acne-prone or sensitive skinned people.
A very little mineral makeup goes a long way. It's different from "ordinary" makeup ... and there are lots of threads on EDS that explain how to apply it.
It covers well ... can be layered for additional "coverage" ... evens out skin tones ... and is its own sunscreen.
From many Mineral Makeup manufacturers, you can purchase "samples" of their makeup ... which is a great idea because it lets you try the product without having to spend a lot of money on them.
If you're in Canada, your choices are fewer [unless you don't mind importing but I have no idea what the taxes etc would be] ... but EDS carries Jane Iredale ... and there's CoverFX that can be purchased at select Shoppers Drug Mart stores ... and I'm sure there are others.
Physicians Formula also have a compact Mineral powder ... very sheer ... and only $20. I rather like it as a "fix up" or "finishing" product.
That's what I would recommend to you. I love mine ... and haven't had any problems with breakouts due to its use.
Good luck

Thanks Mary. I am just full of questions! Can't get enough of this awesome advice. I was wondering about Mineral Makeup. Shoppers Mart? Is that a name of a Drug Store? I don't there's any in the US. I prefer going in person to pick out the right shade for my skin. I wonder if Sephora carries any. |

Hey Mary,
You wrote the following in another thread
"I have a small brush to layer the foundation powder onto specific areas that need a bit more coverage. I use a firmer, large brush to apply the Powder Foundation all over my face ... and a very large, soft brush to apply the "setting" powder."
So, are there 2 types of powders u use? One foundation powder and then a setting powder? And u use 3 brushes in all? Wow, it sounds kinda pricey.

How about looking into Jane Iredale Pressed powder foundation range, liquid foundations
or
Just a bit of concealer where you need it and Jurlique Lavender/Rose Silk dust to cover up any shiny patches. |

Hi again Hayleighs_Mom,
There are two powders ... although you don't need both. I just like both.
As for the brushes ... I've always used brushes to put on my makeup ... and the brushes I use for my mineral makeup are my "old" ones. However, in that same thread that you quoted, there were other ways of applying it ... flocked sponge ... etc.
Some of the pressed powder foundations come with their own flocked sponge for application.
Since you're in the U.S. ... you have a whole lot more options for mineral makeup than we do up in Canada ... and yes, Shoppers is a drug chain ... sort of like, but not nearly as good as your Walgreens. I love wandering around U.S. drug stores!
At any rate ... if you opt for the "online" type, you can purchase sample amounts ... and while these sound like they are small amounts ... with mineral makeup a very little goes a long way.
Physician's Formula pressed Mineral powder [it's not a powder foundation ... just a powder] comes with its own brush.
Someone else will have to advise you on Sephora ... we don't have them up here ... but from what I've read ... I'm sure they carry at least one type of mineral makeup.
