Ok so the past few months I have had problems with zits on my butt! Embarassing! I've had to compromise myself in certain situations so it wouldnt be seen and I feel so umcomfortable naked in front of my boyfriend.
I've tried acne body washes, exfoliation nothing helps. Anyone know a good tip? Or the cause?
Thanks! |

Oh dear. I do recall reading in some old threads that people with back acne have had success using Head & Shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo to wash their backs daily. Apparently the zinc pyrithione is the helpful active ingredient: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc_pyrithione
I have not personally tried this, but perhaps if it has worked for the upper backs of a few EDS members, it may work for the lower back of one? It is cheap enough to try at any rate. |

Have you tried moisturizing there regularly with a lotion containing AHAs or BHA? |

Sometimes this happens to me too, or on the backs of my thighs, and I think a lot of the time it seems like acne (and is) and a lot of the time it's actually just dry dead skin blocking the follicle. If you exfoliate really really well and maybe use a salicylic acid serum (I sometimes slather Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum on my posterior!) it helps quite a bit. Good luck! |

That's what I think it might be, too, keratosis pilaris. I know I get used to get that every now and then. I used Mark Butt Fixing Cream w/ AHA and that stuff is amazing. I used it for about a week about 6 months ago and my bum couldn't be smoother. It's super cheap as well, about $4. |

Ha, that's a great name! When I Google it I see that it's an Avon product, but it doesn't appear on their website and I can't seem to find an ingredients list anywhere - do you think you could post one if it's not too much trouble?
Thanks!
"Butt Fixing Cream". That's hilarious. |

Thanks very much for that! FYI, a PSA to fellow sensitive buttne sufferers: since this product contains both dimethicone and petrolatum, it may actually worsen butt breakouts for some people. I personally tend to break out when those ingredients are applied on my skin (yep, even non-facial skin), so I'll be steering clear of this, sadly. I may try some of those Diana Yvonne acids and add them to another lotion or something. Good luck to all with your backside dilemmas, HTH! |

I forgot to mention before, that I've also had great success in using a prescription clindamycin (sp?) lotion for KP - I find it also helps for KP-induced acne on my butt and thighs. However, I don't love all the other ingredients, and it's impossible to find a clindamycin lotion without sketchy stuff like creepy preservatives and petrochemicals. Still, if you're not averse to that stuff, you might try talking to a dermatologist to get something like this. HTH! |

More buttne help, from another thread where we got to discussing this.

I've always found that same scrub to be too harsh for my face, even if I'm gentle like you, but I LOVE using the stuff as a body scrub. Works REALLY well for bacne, the dreaded "buttne", and keratosis pilaris in general. I use it in tandem with my scrubby gloves that you can buy at the drugstore, and it really helps exfoliate my body skin. I also think it helps with razor rash on my legs if I use it before shaving. Unfortunately I stopped because I don't like all the SLS and parabens, but I do miss the results and sometimes I still cave and buy some. |
And by the way, people liked your thread name.

I wanted to revive this thread to see if anyone had any more suggestions for this. I'm trying to use organic/botanical products whenever possible, so I'm thinking that St. Ives stuff is a last resort. I have some Juice Beauty blemish serum but I'm having a hard time thinking about putting that on my butt... but?
I LOVE you wonderful forumers. With who else would I (could I) discuss my buttne? |

Heh, go for it on your butt! It seems weird to use stuff like that on our bodies, but it definitely helps. And personally, I don't love the sticky texture that JB's serum can impart, but I notice it less on my butt than on my face.
FYI, I also sometimes take a thin layer of Green Apple Peel and just leave it on my derrière overnight. I find that buttne-type issues are often caused by keratosis pilaris, or hair follicles that get sort of inflamed because too much dry skin is forming around them. So if you use a peel-type product to help slough off the extra skin, your pores sometimes get happier. So that's just one more thing you might try.
Good luck! |

Try Kiss My Face Peaches & Cream body lotion. Its has 4% AHA and works REALLY well, you and I er, um, have the same problem. My bum is now smooth and soft. Here is a link to the site that sells it, Ive ordered from them before, they have super fast shipping, unbeatable prices and great CS.

I used to love that lotion, but they reformulated to drop the parabens, and it TOTALLY changed! The old formula smelled like a delicious peach and went on nice and silky smooth, and I now find it to be really sticky and gross-smelling. I'm all for companies ditching parabens, but what a bummer to totally lose the cosmetically elegant base! Just my opinion, though -- the stuff really did work well, I just couldn't handle the change.
And yeah, er, count me in as part of the club. |

Thanks so much to all the ladies with replies! I knew this forum wouldnt let me down and that I could take my deepest darkest beauty woes here!
I tried the scrubbing gloves with a lather of Head & Shoulders, alternating with St.Ives scrub. I then applied Kiss My Face body lotion with the 4% AHA daily and used the Green Apple peel 3 times a week! MY bum is looking amazing and smooth as, well, a baby's bum!
So again, you're all amazingly helpful.
P.S. I also figured out that underwear with extra lacey or irritating fabric in the posterior only amplify the problem so now I buy all my underwear with the ruffles and lace etc. in the front only! |

A lot of the time, the base in such prescription creams contains comedogenic ingredients. Insane, I know. For example, my Retin-A Micro-Gel is supposed to help CLEAR your pores out, but the base contains dimethicone, which is a major pore-blocker for me. So frustrating!
All I can recommend is that you make sure to use other gently exfoliating products, like a BHA product plus the right physical exfoliation, to try and help clear out those pores. Good luck! |
