With one of my recent Sephora purchases, I got a freebie tube of Stila Multi-Effect Mascara. I normally wouldn't try it, but my baggage had been lost on my trip so my cosmetics hadn't yet arrived, so I was pretty jazzed to have a free mascara to use while I waited! I was also pleased to see a relatively natural ingredient list for a non-natural company - i.e. beeswax instead of paraffin, etc. (Of course it still has SOME sketchy ingredients, but nothing like normal mainstream cosmetics.)
The brush for this is one of those curved ones - and half the time it seemed to help, and half the time it drove me crazy. It was just a little bit TOO curved for the shape of my eyes, so I'd wind up poking myself in the eyeball when trying to get at the base of my lashes - fun! And the curve is terrible for hitting lower lashes.
Also, this formulation gave me major spider-leg-lashes. Normally I'd comb that out with no problem, but obviously Alaska Airlines had other plans for my beauty rituals, so I was left with clumpy-looking spiky lashes, ew. Tried wiping off the applicator with a tissue first, but it didn't help much. With my standard Dr. H mascara that's just never a problem, not even with a brand-new and very-fully tube.
The stuff lasted OK, but it didn't have better staying power than my normal natural stuff (which is the only reason I would consider switching). And it was equally annoying to get off as, say, the Dr. H volumizing mascara, and it did kind of flake/smudge a bit - nothing crazy, but again, no improvement over the natural stuff.
All in all I wasn't wowed - I never would have purchased this, but since I got the freebie and saw that it had semi-decent ingredients I figured I'd give it a whirl, but it's just not for me. Didn't sting or burn or anything, and to its credit it did give me great length, but it wasn't so hot on the volume or definition and it just had too many drawbacks. Anyway, hope this review will help guide others in case anyone was curious about this stuff. |
