I first heard about this gel on EDS, some small threads on the Skincare forum which attracted very little response.
I have oily skin so I am always on the look out for effective and non comedogenic, non alcohol products to help combat oiliness. For the longest time, I had been using rice/silk powder on bare skin and found it to be great at first but average oil absorption after a few months. I did not like using primers since I like to let my skin breath and did not want to risk causing massive breakouts down the line.
There are several reviews on MUA which attest to the effectiveness of this product.
This seems to be a Derm only type product, although you can find it on various skincare websites, the RRP is 10GBP, and a rather heavy 39.99 USD. I buy a 3 pack from UK pharmacy websites, they generally write off VAT and have at cost shipping rates, which means I pay around 17USD for each tube.
Basically, it is a cloudy gel which goes on the skin wet but dries to a matte finish. Its active ingredients are polymers which absorb oil, not block the pores. For me it lasts about 4 hours in the t zone, but I top with a dusting of rice/silk powder and I have comfortable skin for around 8-10 hours.
The instructions state that it can be used on bare skin in place of a moisturiser. I often use a face cream (on damp skin and let absorb for ten mins) then the OC 8 which works just as well. I also layer sofina sunscreen on top for added oil control.
WHen first starting this product, I was still reluctant to part with my regular powder routine, so used this ON TOP of the powder, it balled up miserably and the gel plus powder just ended up a thick layer on my fingers. Now that I am over the fear of using lotions on the skin, it has worked much better.
This contains no alcohol, fragrance, silicones. I do not find this to cause any irritation for my skin which is quite reactive at times. It is easy to remove with any sort of cleanser, and does not leave traces on the skin.
In the past I have used various primers and powders for oil control, for reference - Clarins smooth touch, PUre luxe line eraser, various Japanese cosmetic primers (kaito, love clover, sofina, kanebo...),monistat Mac blot powder, MMU, endless many. I do think by layering with a good base like OC 8 will give added oil control.
ingredients - aqua, dvb/isobornyl methacrylate/lauryl methacrylate copolyer, propylene glycol, peg 400, carbomer, sodium hydroxide, methylparaben, disodium edta. |
