For the first time today, I used my all-natural smudge proof mascara as eyeliner!!! It worked great - I just dabbed my angled brush onto the wand and patted the stuff on like I used to do with my old MAC fluidline (which I tossed out when I started getting worried about preservative).
Am I the only weird one who does this?
My motivation for doing this was to cut down on the tugging my eyeliner pencil (which is otherwise a great product, especially in the summer when it's nice and soft) was doing to my lid as I dragged the tip across the skin.
I guess another option is to soften the hard eyeliner pencil tip with the hairdryer during these colder winter months, but this mascara method takes less time!

Huh??? Why not just buy a better quality eye liner that doesn't tug on your eye lid? |

Yeah, I must admit that I agree with Northerngirl. I've never heard of anyone doing this.
I'd really look into a better quality eyeliner. Some go on like butter. I love the Dior waterproof liner. I've never had a problem with it tugging. I'm sure others here will have more suggestions for you as well. |

It's the closest thing to a 100% natural gel eye liner that I can think of
I used to have this really smooth Estee Lauder eye liner pencil, but it made my eyes itch. |

I sort of do the same but in a different way Bibi. I take the wand tip and dot in between my eye lashes where ever its sparse looking. OR I will color the inside upper lid close to the lashline. The effect is very nice and not harsh looking as eyelining will look sometimes. |

I am surprised you didn't end up with the stuff shedding or the line cracking! Why wouldn't you just use a gel or cream liner??
I use a Sheer Cover (MMU) eyeliner that is a cream, and I really like it a lot... goes on perfectly and smudges nicely if you want the smokey look. It is especially natural looking on your lower lashes too.
I believe Smashbox makes a great gel liner, and I think that's much easier to get |

The only time I've used mascara as eyeliner is with a weird product from Benefit. It was a brightly-colored mascara that was sold in a little metal squeeze tube and a separate brush. You were supposed to squeeze the product onto the brush and brush it onto your lashes.
Well, not only was the product too bright/light for that, but it just never worked. But the stuff has the exact consistency of a MAC paint with better staying power, so I used it for eyeliner for many years. Sadly, I may now be getting too old to pull off a wild look like this -- but I still save it for big funky nights. |

I use smashbox gel liner and will never use anything else ,I find the pencil liner very hard on your lids ,I would think that the mascara would dry and crack ,how well does it last when you put it on |

For those of you who don't like the pencil tugging, have you ever tried a cream or gel eyeliner? I hadn't until recently, and I could never figure out how to apply them. But then I figured out that an angled eyeliner brush really helps. Just a thought -- MAC fluidline or Smashbox cream eyeliner are the two I've tried, and they work well for me so far. |

Sounds interesting. I had never thought of that. After you applied your mascara as an eye line, did it dry out easily? Dis you feel uncomfortable with that the dryness? At least the gel eye liner sooths.... |

I must admit, that I have never heard of using mascara as eyeliner. I guess if you are pleased with the results that is all that matters. But isn't the mascara more difficult to remove than regular eyeliner? Why don't you try out a few new eyeliners and see if they do the trick. I think there is a reason that mascara is used as mascara... |

Is gel eyeliner in a pencil form, or do you apply it with a brush? |

The kind I have (MAC fluidline and Smashbox Cream Liner) is applied with a brush. I found that the whole process of applying was a LOT easier when I figured out what kind of brush about it! I actually blogged about it here if you wanna see all the brush options I found. |
