Lately I've been using a lot of Bobbi Brown makeup and so I *naturally* want BB brushes to apply it with. I have with me their foundation brush, eye shadow brush, eye smudge brush, blusher brush, travel lip brush and eye definer brush.
The foundation brush is a must-have for everyone wearing foundation (except MMU. I guess when I start wearing MMU I'd want a special brush for that, too ) I use BB oil free liquid foundation and with this brush the application is more even and your face is smoother. The BB girl said with your fingers the finish won't be as smooth because you've got fingerprints. I don't buy that for one second, but I bought the brush anyway because I like the fact that I don't get my fingers dirty when I put on foundation. Another advantage is that you can seamlessly build up coverage and get into every nook and cranny on your face.
The eye shadow brush picks up just the right amount of eye colour, so you never overdo your eyes. But on days I wear a darker eye shadow or when I want smokey eyes I'd use the eye smudge brush because it gives a better 'spread' of colour.
The blush brush is also very nice, you never end up with a pink streak across your cheek. You definitely can't go wrong with this brush.
It seems I have used their retractable lip brush forever! It must have been six years, now, and it has made my expensive lipsticks last at least twenty applications longer. The bristles are still intact although I've washed it a lot over the years, and the brush still performs like new. Absolutely love this soft bristled firm brush.
The angled eye definer brush I use to either fill in my eyebrows with eye shadow (in lieu of eyebrow pencil) so that it looks very natural like I was born with luvly jubbly brows or for lining the eyes with one of my very dark eye shadows (in which case I'd use it wet to make the colour more intense). It is very firm and gives the effect that you want (natural looking brows, thick line, thin line, whatever) with very little effort. You'll even find it easy to put eye liner on someone else with it!
The BB conditioning brush cleanser works very well at removing stubborn old makeup that's stuck in the bristles, but it's *very* drying to your hands. I squeeze a small drop on the palm of my hands, swish the wet bristles around in it and rinse well. The brush is clean without my having to repeat the process, but once I'm done with all my brushes my hand feels so dry it soaks up all handcream I put on afterwards. Still, I think it's an effective cleanser and wouldn't use shampoo (too drying and deposits a film on the bristles, so I heard) to wash my brushes although I may use a gel facial cleanser if I have to.
All in all I think my purchases have been well worth the money, although I must say I can't compare them with brushes from other reputable brands because I haven't tried everything (yet). |

I love foundation brushes for liquid foundation! I finally caved and bought the MAC foundation bush (which is really good btw)... and now I'm tempted to add yet another one from BB to my collection.... *sigh* The eye definer brush also sounds good, and sounds like it would be firmer than the MAC one... |

Ooh Mabsy! I love it that you always make me feel good about my purchases!
I do adore my new BB foundation brush, but too bad it doesn't come in short handle size, so it can't fit into the BB travel brush case I already have. Dang don't I just have to get the case now... |

Better yet, if they have a short handle version of the brush then you can buy that for the tavel case and get a new case for the full size one That would also work nicely since I could justify buying the BB brush on the premise that it's shorter than the MAC one I have |

I have always been intrigued by foundation brushes, I have always applied liquid foundation with my fingers, the brushes look like it would take forever to apply and use up tons of foundation, I may have to have a play next time I am at a counter
Great review |

Thanks. That's what I thought at first, too, but then I had to try it the last time I was at the BB counter and it suddenly became necessary (and therefore irresistable). |

Rosebud you make me want to .
Well don't buy it if you're not going to use it. Put your money when it can grow for you: never underestimate the value of forty bucks in a smart investment plan!
If it weren't for ten cents, ninety cents won't be a dollar, that's what I always say. |

I thought I'd bump this thread up with my own review. A few weeks back I bought the Bobbi Brown Delux Short Brush kit. LOVE the brushes (they're very soft) with the exception of the Face Blender which has seemed to lose a few hairs already. Other than the foundation brush (which I don't use because I use MMU), I use every brush out of this kit. I also purchased the blush brush and the Eye Blender Brush seperately.
Eye Shader Brush - I really wasn't sure about this brush. It seems very large and I thought it would be difficult to use, BUT for applying the base colour from lash line to eyebrow ... this brush rocks!! Absolutely love it!
Foundation Brush - Can't comment on this as I haven't had to use it yet.
Face Blender Brush - this is my least favourite. First of all ... the hairs are white and I find it's shedding a little. Otherwise, I do like it for application of blush (or for highlighting), but I'm not sure it's really necessary (as you could use a blush brush the same way really).
Eye Shadow Brush - Once again ... a great brush. Not too big, not too small and easy to use.
Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush - I started to use the BB Gel Eyeliner and this works perfectly to get a nice thin line (although I'm still perfecting my technique). I also use this sometimes with a dark eyeshadow for liner as well.
Brow Brush - Nice, firm brush which works great for filling in your brows. I wasn't sure I really needed this because my brow powder came with a decent little brush, but this works better.
Concealer Brush - I really like this more than my old concealer brush. The hairs are long and the brush is more narrow than my old one. This makes it easy to apply concealer to smaller areas. And it comes with a lid which is really nice ... I wipe off my brush after using, but without the lid I might still end up with left-over concealer messing up my case.
Blush Brush (not included in the kit) - I really like this brush ... it's a bit smaller than my old blush brush and very easy to apply that little "pop" of colour on your cheekbones. I used the Face Blender for the more neutral shade of blush across my cheekbone and then this brush to apply a brighter pink just to the apples.
Eye Blender Brush (not included in the kit) - I don't use this to blend eyeshadows, but I do use it to apply powder under my eyes ... it works great for this.
Overall I'm very happy with these brushes and they should last a long time. And it's kinda nice to have all matching brushes! My old brushes were a combination of different brands and there's just something nice about having a kit with brushes all the same look. |

a couple years ago, I was looking to buy some essential brushes and went to the BB counter. I tried the brushes on the counter and did not find them very soft, espectially the eye shadow ones. I was then shocked by the price of the brushes. I just couldn't justify spend that much money on a couple of brushes. |

I have a few brushes from Bobbi Brown which I bought years ago and I really really love them. Last week, I went brush shopping with my best friend as she needed help picking good brushes. I recommended BB, but when we actually got to try them out, I couldn't possibly be more disappointed. I noticed some shedding when we were trying them out and the hair felt so much more bristle and harsh on my skin unlike the ones I own. Oh, and I did try both new brushes and the brushes the MA's were using. It seems the quality of their brushes have gone down over the year and that seems to be the case with MAC brushes as well. I used to only use BB brushes, but now I also use MAC, Laura Mercier, A'Squirrel, Shu Uemura, and Alima.
Oh I own their foundation brush, eye shadow brush, face blender brush, ultra fine eyeliner brush, eyeliner brush, and face brush (kabuki). |

I find them soft and like I said, with the exception of the Face Blender brush, I haven't noticed any shedding of the other brushes (however, I have only had them a few weeks). The older brushes I used were mostly MAC and the BB do seem softer than the MAC to me. I did also recently buy a Laura Mercier Bronzer brush and that thing is shedding like crazy! I've heard Shu Uemura brushes are soft, but I've never had anywhere near me that sells them to try them out. But for now, I'm very happy with the BB brushes. |

Thanks Moonstarr, for your review. I have since added three more BB brushes into my collection: the Eye Shader, the Face Brush (Short handled buki) and the Ultra Fine Eyeliner.
I find the Eye Shader a must have for quickly applying base powder eyeshadow (This may be old news to some, but I have just learnt that nothing makes for a smooth base for powder eyeshadow, not even foundation or facepowder, but a powder eyeshadow!) I use BB Bone eyeshadow before applying eye colour so that it spreads well - esp when using strong colours, and this is the brush to use.
The Face Brush I take with me to work. I use this mainly with loose powder, compact foundation (I have Lancome Photogenic in my purse for touchups) and also for touching up blush at work. This little cutie is also very very soft and I look forward to applying powder with it. (I also bought it to use with MMU, but I prefer my Alima #25 for that purpose).
And the Ultra Fine Eyeliner I use with my MAC Fluidline. I was reluctant to buy this at first because of a MUA reviewer that said hers splayed after a few uses, but I haven't found mine to be like that. In fact its the best I've used for Fluidline (or BB Gel Liner, for that matter) I was doing great with MAC's pencil brush with my Fluidline and thought it was the best applicator for gel liners but I have found BB Ultra Fine Eyeliner brush to be far superior: it makes application easy and you don't waste product. Plus, I can easily, safely and confidently put gel liner on my mum and not mess up her eyes!
None of my BB brushes have shed or in any way disappointed me, so my conclusion is that they are so well worth the money!
p/s now I'm also wondering if I should get their ever-so-soft Powder Brush, which I've been lemming forever...

Hopemelody, if you touch the brushes on the counter before you decide to buy you'll never buy them! They are always dirty, loaded with makeup buildup and never soft! Always ask to see and feel a new one. |

I tried some BB powder brushes (they have an awful rounded head!) and are actually quite scratchy on the face. They feel soft in my hands, so do my $5 SASA pony brushes... I still prefer A'squirrel but for applying liquids and concealers, I think one still needs rather stiff bristles. |

These little minis are shorter than short, and look so cute I can't help sharing this photo! I got the blush and e/s minis with the Clay collection they had some time back and the eye shader mini is more recent, but I can't remember what promo it came with. They go everywhere with me!
p/s lifeisbeautiful, I swear I'm getting the powder brush soon, and I'll post my review rightaway. |

I've had the shorter handled version of BB's Ultra Fine Eyeliner brush for a few years now and can not use anything else now. I love it and it still looks new like the day I bought it. |
