I was supposed to get a microdermabrasion done, but since I'm having a breakout, the woman said it'd be best not to as it'd just irritate my skin too much...instead she took me into some other room and I had blue light therapy done...I'm not exactly sure what it was supposed to do, or its benefits exactly...but after the 25 minutes, my face was pink and tingly... |

Blue light therapy, is used to kill the bacteria, that causes acne. I believe in a spa setting, 6 to 8 treatments are recommended.
At home units are available from several company's. Here are a couple of reputable ones for starters.
http://www.quasarpro.com/baby_quasar.html ($349.)
http://www.lightstim.com/acne_skin_care_light.html ($279.) |

The pinkiness passed fairly quickly, though, right? |

Hanna, do you know what kind of topical was applied pre treatment, if any? |

My face didn't sting or anything...it just felt a bit tight and tingly like I had done a strong mask or something. I'm assuming that the redness went down relatively quickly, but I had a calming/relaxig facial afterwards (I go to a Valmont medical spa).
Nothing was applied prior to the blue light...I'm scheduled for another one tomorrow, but I'm a bit skeptical about this whole thing :S
Anything to minimize my breakouts before my med school interviews this weekend though!! Fingers crossed...for my skin and school!! |

Also, is it okay to be using glycolic and retinol products while getting the blue light treatments?
I've currently stopped using them since I had originally been scheduled for the microderm, but my breakout prevented that from happening...it was sort of sad when the woman who has been doing my facials and microderms since christmas repeatedly tells you how shocked she is to see your skin so broken out :S |

Hanna, from the sound of it, maybe the breakouts are related to nerves and such with so much going on.
I wouldn't use any acids until you speak with the person doing the light treatments. They will know better what to advise you.
In any event, I don't think the blue light treatment would do you any harm. |
