Hi Everyone!
I'm looking for a nice body lotion that will actually moisturize my skin instead of just soothe it for a few hours.
I am currently so dry that I can feel the skin on my back 'stretch' when I bend over and then it will drive me crazy with a case of the 'itchies'.
I've tried quite a few but, have not been able to find one that works....
Thanks so much for your advice,
Kel
Edit-Oh no! I tried to post this once and it wouldn't allow me saying it was too soon after my last post. Well I hadn't posted anything so I thought that was odd but, I figured it was a glitch and I'd wait and try again. Well it worked the second time but, low and behold, it appears that it DID post my first body lotion qustion. Dang! Perhaps a mod can delete one version? I'm so sorry for the mess up! |

Rather than recommend a lotion, I would suggest that you perhaps start using oils such as jojoba, sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil. If you don't think you can handle it full on at first, ttry mixing some of those into a lotion that you already have. If you prefer something a little creamier, then I would recommend a whipped shea butter such as from here:
http://www.chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com/sheamousse.htm
I use all of the above and LOVE them all. Shea I find better in the winter and on my hands. Oils for summer and the rest of my body. |

Thanks for the link alisons79! That whipped shea butter looked much nicer than the shea butter I see in stores (even the Body Shop!)
I'm very tempted to try the lavender...
Are you from Canada or the States? I noticed that their shipping rate for Canada seemed a bit high... |

I'm in the US. I have tried the normal and the lemon one. Love 'em both. I also got a couple samples of their shampoo bars but I've been too chicken to try them out.
Maybe this summer when I my hair doesn't need so much moisture. |

Hi,
Since your body skin is dry, you should use body cream instead of body lotion. I am currently using Cellcosmet Body Cream which is suitable for my dry skin.
My skin is very dry & quite sensitive in Winter. After using Cellcosmet Body Cream for a few days, my skin condition has been inproved. You may also try it to see if it works well on your skin or not.
Regards! |

alisons79-I checked the site out further and was amazed at the variety of their soap! I might just have to get some of their sample sizes! The hair soap has me interested but, like you I'm too chicken! (Especially since I have dyed hair....)
Mike-Perfect, thanks for the recommendation. I need something that actually improves the skin like that. Most of my body 'stuff' (I don't even know if it is a lotion or a creme) doesn't improve the texture or nature of my skin-it just coats it.
Thanks guys! |

I took a look at their shipping rate to Canada and it's reasonable. I do a lot of ordering from the U.S.
I order from a few etailers. If you're interested in knowing who they are you can send me a pm. |

I have found that you don't have to pay a lot for an effective body lotion. My favorite right now is Vaseline cocoa butter with shea. It's light but it kept me itchy free all winter. Also, Aveeno Skin Relief is super good too. |

I just checked out that website as well, holy cow shipping was really pricey to Canada IMHO. I would look at the Tval website if I were you. They're shea butter is whipped as well. They also sell facial skin care and MMU as well. |

I love Burt's Bees Milk and Honey lotion. Love the smell too.
The new Gold Bond lotion with shea is really nice too - nothing fancy, but it does moisturize well. |

Now I don't find them effective-so that's weird. I have tried the Vaseline Cocoa Butter and didn't find that it had lasting results. Same with the Aveeno (which I was quite surprised by) and I hated the smell of the Aveeno.... |

Hi Jenny-you posted that link on a different topic before, right? I was checking them out-I'm interested in Canadian products especially east coast ones! I didn't realize they had a whipped shea butter, I should take a look at them.
Thank God I'm not the only one to think that the shipping was a bit pricey. Perhaps it goes by weight?!
Thanks!

Do you mix the oils into a lotion of some sort? Where can you find a store that sells just the oils?! |

I get all weird and eczemey in the winter. I use my own homemade soap--commercial soap is way too harsh--and Kiehl's Creme de Corps. I've also started using oils based on the recommendations of these fine ladies. And they are lovely.
You can get organic unrefined avocado oil and others atwww.mountainroseherbs.com. |

Maybe you need to exfoliate and use a moisturizing body wash or soap.
Aveeno has no smell. |

Hi Kel,
Yes, I found out about them through this thread:
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=17003
I really love buying canadian when I can. The shipping is minimal if anything (free shipping over 75.00). The smell of the soaps, lotions, etc is to die for......so yummy!! I find the prices of their products very reasonable. And when you register you get 15% off your first order. |

It is not odd for me to get very dry itchy legs in the winter. It is so bothersome to me that I wake up at night.
My doctor told me about LacHydrin lotion. I buy it over the counter in my local drug store, CVS. One application takes the itch away. LacHydrin is potent but gentle enough to use on your face. It contains Lactic Acid. I give this lotion a 10. Wouldn't be without it!

I will have to look into that-we don't have a CVS but hopefully I can find it over here. I didn't realize lactic acid was used for a moisturizer! Thanks for the tip! |

I have an Aveeno lotion that's supposedly no fragrance (for dry, sensitive skin) and I still find it has a smell. A sort of rubbery-plastic smell. I'm not crazy over it, and neither is my boyfriend who also has to put up with the scent!
I do exfoliate but, I should try some good soap. Perhaps that's contributing to my issue. I think I might take the advice of the posters on here and try some homemade soap. I'm currently using Lever 2000-which is probably too drying! |

I expect Lever2000 would be a little drying. If you're from the Maritime's have you tried Moonsnail Soapworks out of PEI......I think they have a sea buckthorn line is supposed to be quite soothing for dry skin. I've only ever tried some bar soaps and a couple of face products from them. |

"Do you mix the oils into a lotion of some sort? Where can you find a store that sells just the oils?!"
kel,
I use just the oils. you can mix it with other stuff , but it works great with just the oils. ANy organic store should have both of these. I have tried so many lotions and potions of all types, and i have found these to be the best. they are so simple, but really do the trick. Virgin coconut oil has lauric acid, so it exfoliates aswell. |

Though it is a bit $$$, I really love Kiehl's Creme de Corps---it absorbs really well, keeps me moisturized all day and leaves a nice glow on my skin. |
