Has anyone went on Accutane for their acne? I had the worst acne ever and when I went on this i had the most amazing skin after. I highly recommend it!

I've spoken to a lot of people who have bad acne and they try so many things besides accutane! I feel so bad for them... i would definitely recommend accutane to everyone that has problems getting clear skin. I had the WORST acne..and yea..ever since i used it, never had problems since! A few of my friends had great results too Smile

Accutane cleared my sister's skin completely and it remained clear for several years, but now she gets the occasional pimple.

Ya, occasional pimples are totally normal. I don't mind those! Part of being human Smile It's a heck of a lot better then what i had before accutane. My face was just covered..it was terrible.

I would not suggest anyone to take Accutane unless you are desparate. Yes it may work wonders but once your body is used to it, you may have problem finding another type of medicine when your body really needs it. I will try green tea, lots of fruits, veggies, excercise and drink lots of water and some good skin product, adequate sleep may be the key to good skin as well.

Ummm, that honestly doesn't make any sense whatsoever! Accutane has it's negative things but every single drug you take does. And anyone that has above mild acne that doesn't get results from a regular skin regimen should go on it. Drinking water, and eating fruits and veggies does not help people with excessive acne. Maybe the ones who have a pimple here and there then it's a totally different story. And this whole thing about your body getting used to it is extremely inaccurate. You only take this for 3 months! I took it when i was 14 and now i'm 24 and my skin is still perfect!

If you are diagnosed with severe acne (like me), a sure yes.
I'm still on Roaccautane and I'm 3 weeks to finishing my whole course.
I've tried almost every single product in the market, tropical treatment, oral antibiotics, pills and yet nothing work.
Before I went on Roaccutane I considered laser treatment but I did some research and I don't think the technology is fully developed so I opt for the one that most people said it worked.
Its not as bad as everybody said, surely I feel less lively than normal - but before I was really depressed and paranoid about my skin, at which point I didn't want to step out of my house. As Roaccutane kick in it just change the whole situation, I was depressed in a happy way (if you know what I mean...)
But one thing that is your skin conditional will change after the course and also during the course you'll get extremely dry lips and skin.
I'd recommend using Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream (saved me from lip infection hell) and ask your chemist for derma 500 (as soap/lotion) and cetraban (as cream) when you are on a heavier dose.
Last, there is a 85% chance that you will no longer have acne for the rest of your life (or very rare minor breakout). So I think if you're in a long battle, give it a try. It's a lot of money but it's worth spending.
Good luck no matter what!

I have been on Accutane 3 times in 20 years...and would do it again if my acne was as bad as it was those times in the past!

Yes, there are some side effects like dry skin, but my acne was so bad it was leaving those awful scars...somehow dry skin seemed like the lesser of the 2 evils! Smile

Get a good dermatologist!

My daughter went on roaccutane after trying different topical creams and different antibiotics, she also tried changing her diet for the best, ie no lollies or sweets , no chocolate and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, nothing apart of the roaccutane helped, unfortunately the acne came back after a year and she is now on it again, aparantly there is a percentage of people that need 2 doses or more of the medication.
Unforunately the first bout of acne has scarred her face and I wish I had acted sooner, I listened to too many idiots and put off the roaccutane, this time I acted swiftly before nasty eruptions that lead to scars. I feel so sorry for kids whose parents wont act and have to go through life scarred. Luckily makeup covers most scars.

How long did your daughter have acne for? I started having severe acne in grade 7 and went on accutane when I was going into grade 9. Doesn't seem long but many times i'd skip school or just not show up all day because it got SOOOO bad! Luckily I didn't end up with scarring though.. Hard to believe if you saw what it looked like.

At least a dermatologist can remove her scarring from her face.

My daughter started getting acne in grade 7 and we tried different topicals and antibiotics for around a year before roaccutane.
We have been to a beautician and had some peels done which helped her forehead smooth out beautifully, but on her cheeks she still has scarring, I asked the dermatologist what we can do later for the scars and she told me not to worry about it yet until after she finishes this second course. She was putting on stieva retin a cream whilst she was clear, dont really know if it helped. Her scars were still quite red she always wore makeup to cover the scars I am sure that later on there will be something that can smooth out her scars. Lets hope so.

My sister used this a number of year ago.

The result was very good. It can make your skin dry and sensitive to sun. So she used a very rich nigh cream and use good sun protect cream with hat during the day.

Remember to follow the doctor instruction.

I was on Accutane twice in ten years. I had a terrible stressful life in my 20s and 30s, and the unhappiness came out of my skin. I have the occasional pimple, still. It was not a permanent solution for me at all. But it took one of the stresses away during those years.

Sadly, Accutane did not exist when I was in school and so mortified by my acne. I couldn't even get my parents to take me to a dermatologist. I even asked for a dermatologist appt for Christmas one year. No go. My mother said my zits were "the meanness coming out of" me.

Shock

Is it any wonder that I am completely estranged from my birth family, and I grew up to be a writer? Laughing

I was on Accutane as a teenager... the changes to my skin were nothing short of amazing... however, I wouldn't recommend this product only because it caused me to suffer from severe depression.
Studies have been done now that link Accutane to depression, but 17 years ago when I took the drug... there was no connection. I would have avaoided the drug if I had know about the consequences...

I took it over 20 years ago after suffering from terrible cystic acne. I wish I found it sooner after rounds of many types of antibiotics and being in the hospital from them and a huge self-esteem nose dive at that time. My info was that it was temp side effects at best and because it stores more in your liver, that's the real danger but is also faster to cleanse. I didn't have any side effects other than dry/thin skin and initial redness, no depression or suicidal tendencies.

Wow... that's really awful. That's just so mean. Did she never have pimples as a kid?

I'll agree about Roaccutane. I first got bad cystic acne on the lower part of my face at age 20.

I tried using various topicals (Nutrition had always been excellent with lots of fresh produce and exclusively home-cooked food). Nothing helped. I got used to living with it.

At 36, and due to severe stress I believe, it spread all over my back and it was painful too! I tried the usual stuff with no results again.

So, at 37, I went to a different derm than before and he told me that nothing but Roaccutane would help. He warned me not to get pregnant.

I took it for five months and sure I had the dry lips and dry nose and dry eyes. Nothing major, though.

My acne cleared completely and to this day it has not come back (I am 40 now).

So, I would say it has definitely been very good for me.

I took accutane about 7 years ago and my skin was clear until I had my second child. It just recently came back but not as bad as it was when I first took accutane. It is bad enough that I called my derm and made an appointment. I am trying to decide if I should try accutane or Spiro for my acne. I believe that it is hormonal. For those of you who have used it more than once, are there any different side effects? What are the chances of the acne returning again? I am so confused and frustrated! Confused
