Just got my dermarollers...SUPERFAST service from this ebay guy...but no anesthetic creme came with it (which I assumed it would). Are you guys using an over-the-counter topical anesthetic, or is there some specific kind I should use?

I hope someone answers quick because I want to get to the specialty drugstore before it closes if I need to...

Thanks in advance for any input!

Hello Yubs - There are various OTC numbing creams available. Rather than try to list them, due to your time restraints, here is a quote from one of my older posts in the dermaroller thread. hth's....

Quote:
If anyone is looking for a fast and effective numbing product to use with their derma roller, check out Tridocaine Gel fromwww.canadadrugsuperstore.com/more.asp?ProductID=68977. Tridocaine Gel is superior to Emla Cream and Xylocaine Ointment as it contains 3 numbing agents and works within 15 minutes of application. It also does not require you to sit with saran wrap on your face for up to one hour in order to activate the product fully (like Emla Cream does ). Cost wise, this gel is very reasonable as well.

Here is an excerpt about Tridocaine fromwww.canadadrugsuperstore.com/more.asp?ProductID=68977:

Tridocaine Gel (Benzocaine 20%, Lidocaine 6%, Tetracaine 4%)
Tridocaine is a local analgesic, anaesthetic and antipruritic. It is used to prevent pain associated with needle insertion, intravenous cannulation, and superficial surgery on skin. Suitable for pre-op laser surgery. Used by estheticians and anaesthetic physicians. For temporary relief of pain from minor burns, sunburns, insect bites and minor skin irritations.

Directions for use:
Apply before and after injection, or laser surgery or as directed by physician.

Results are obtained quickly in 10 - 15 minutes. No dressing is required. Intact skin only.

Freshly made.
Finlandia Natural Pharmacy will specially compound this product after getting your order. This product expires after 6 months.

This Canadian online pharmacy also sells three other numbing products: Duocaine Gel (6% Lidocaine & 4% Tetracaine), Xylocaine Ointment (5% Lidocaine), and Emla Cream (2.5% Lidocaine & 2.5% Priloaine). Again, the prices for all of these numbing gels are very good compared to other sources.

Thanks for the info, ScotsLass, and I'm sorry I never saw that bit and made you repost it.

But oh, I am so bummed!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought the numbing gel came with the dermaroller!!!!!! Now I have my 1.5mm dermaroller and I'm afraid to roll w/out the gel because I am a WIMP. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I wish I'd thought to ask about the numbing gel before I bought the rollers. I could have had it on the way at least. *sigh*

Does anyone have any idea where I can get something this strong in the States OTC (not via mail or UPS)?

Yubs,

Why not just try it without the numbing cream?

It's really not that bad Laughing.
I've been using the
l.5 without cream and I'm pressing pretty hard (enough to give me blood spots), and I'm quite a whimp also.

You could also numb your face first with an ice cube.

Debster--I fretted and fretted about not being able to try out my new toy, and then that's what I did! Laughing I agree, it wasn't that bad, although I do feel like I have a sunburn now, and I was glad to move on to the next area by the time I got done with the diagonal rolling. No blood, though.

So you mash down hard? I didn't have the guts...I just rolled it normally. Maybe next week... Very Happy

Yubs, glad to took the plunge! Not so bad, right?

The lst time I used the l.5, I was pretty gentle, and by the 3rd time, I was pressing firmly. Ya, it hurts and my skin felt like a really bad sunburn for an hour or so, but the next day, my skin looked really good.

I can't wait till the 6 weeks are over so I can take a break and go back to my .75.

I was just wondering, has anybody had obvious ill effects from the repeated absorption of topical anesthetic into the bloodstream?

Considering one of the uses of DR is for deeper product absorption and penetration, that can't be ruled out, right?

Kassy, I know of one person who had a not so happy feeling from absorption of the anesthetic, so yes.

I'm gonna try without when I get my 1.5mm and see if I need it. I don't take novacaine or anything at the dentist, so I'll probably be fine.

Perhaps ice cubes would numb the area just enough to make it comfy, without the need for an anesthetic.

lunarmom--holy mackerel, you don't use novacaine at the dentist!!!!!! OMG!! I can't even tell you the mental picture/feelings that conjures up for me! ooooooooooo... Laughing Laughing

I have ordered some tridocaine from Canada but it has yet to arrive, and I may go ahead and roll today without it, except taking Kassy's suggestion and using ice cubes.

It wasn't that bad using the 1.5 without any kind of anesthetic, but I want to try for a bit more of an aggressive roll. I don't want to bloody myself up, but rather go over all areas a few more times than I did last week. Not sure if I can do that without something to numb me up. Shock Laughing

I will update on both tridocaine and ice cubes when I've had a chance to compare.

I'm going to order Tridocaine - like you Yubs I have a very low pain threshold Laughing As I'm only rolling once a week, I want it to be as deep as the needles allow and there's no way I could do it without numbing the area first!
I'll just wash my face prior to rolling, so hopefully none of the Tridocaine will get into my bloodstream!

I tried the 1.5 mm roller over the weekend without the numbing cream and all I can say is that you all who don't use the cream have a very high tolerance for pain. I nearly called it quits on the forehead part, too close to bone.

Do we need a prescription to get the numbing cream linked above?

Also, I am flaking a lot two days after doing this, is that normal? I'm planning to do it every Monday for 6 weeks.

Hey Brassflower,

You really shouldn't need a numbing cream if you have a derma roller meant for home use.

The 1.5 size needles are not as long as the ones used in spas. If it hurts, then you pressing too hard.

Just roll it very lightly - and only 4 times in each direction (up and down, then side to side) and then move onto another section of your skin.

Then apply a good anti-aging cream right afterwards. The cream will get soaked in. It is best if you roll at night before you go to bed. This is the time your skin rejuvenates itself.

Besides you don't want to apply makeup or anthing with chemicals on your skin while the pores are still open. And, you want to avoid the sun for a few hours afterward too. That's why I roll at night.

If your skin is flaking then cut back to once a week until your skin gets stronger and healthier.

Hope this helps Very Happy Hapy Rolling....

I think the tridocaine you guys are talking about has officially changed name to "Bioevolve Numbing Cream"

I just ordered a 60g tube for my laser treatment and it worked amazingly well! Laughing

You can still get it at Canada Drug Superstore but I got mine from Biosense Pharmacy website. They got a promotion going on if you are spending over $150

hope this helps
