I have this very nice and helpful neighbour who's 56 years old. She told me she has been struggling with whiteheads on her cheeks and forehead for many years which require regular treatments (some kind of squeezing to get the gunk out) at a skin care salon. Still, the whiteheads keep coming back all the time.
Currently she's using Decleor Iris aromessence and Decleor Excellence de l'age Creme Sublime Regenerate (which is CAD149 on EDS, and even more expensive where we live).
She's happy with these products as she obviously has aging issues to address, as well.
I told her I believe there are better and cheaper products out there that possibly can keep whiteheads at bay. I was thinking about retinol or glycolic acids, but don't have any experience with this skin condition.
I hope some of you can give her some advice and product recommendations. |

I am now using Obagi but I used to use SkinCeuticals clay mask and clay cleanser and they both worked very good. However, EDS no longer sells SkinCeuticals and I was told by other online skincare companies that SkinCeuticals will no longer allow other vendors to sell their products online!!! |

Hi
I have whitehead problems, DAILY. I have tried lots and lots of products, but still everyday I have 5-6 new ones in the am and 3-4 in the pm when I get home from work. I tried Obagi and it was Horrible, did not work to clear up any whiteheads. I would love to hear what products will keep whiteheads as bay. I have tried BP, SA, retinols or glycolic acids, nothing works. |

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I used to get a few small milia under my eyes which totally went away with regular use of PSF Pumpkin Peel. |

I am sorry to hear that Obagi didn't work for you. I guess maybe it does not work for your skin tone. Have you tried other product lines such as Dermalogica and MD Forte? My husband uses MD Forte and it helps him. |

I went through a period where I was getting whiteheads daily like you. I would wake up with a few and I popped them and would get more as the day goes on. I stopped counting after 20 spots on my face daily. After finally getting an appt with my derm, she said it was part of my rosacea flareup and rx a sulfur products. I stopped getting whiteheads after 3 weeks of daily sulfur treatment.
Maybe check with your derm regarding sulfur as well? Good luck |

What kind of sulfur product did you use? My friend has fair skin and she's using dermalogica and she has whitehead every now and then but she's 54 and I told her that she may need to use Obagi. |

Prevention with a good cleaning method that exfoliates as well as cleans.
Clarisonic skin brush is my top recommendation. www.clarisonic.com
If she can't afford it, then consider the Pretika knockoff sonic brush (available from HSN).
If she can't afford that, try a "microdermabrasion" cloth/sponge. I like Ebay Stan's sponge - get it from him or his wife - gets in the nooks and crannies of the nose area (where I tend to get clogged the most):

I am an obagi fan and it got rid of whiteheads for me, big time. But need to withstand the horrible peeling, redness blah blah blah before I see the results. Clear #3 is my fav of that series. The fact that Obagi cleared my necklines (deep) is worth all the effort and I really love how my skin felt after the series.
Back to whiteheads, BHA products will work very well, I am sure there are a few brands there that carries BHA.

mtview,
Thanks for the info. I am sorry that you found OBAGI horrible as I loved it. But I agreed, you have to get ugly first before you see results. However, everyone's skin tone is different, some may react worse than others. |

sfong,
Definitely, skincare is YMMV. I went through the uglies (the entire 4 months) and didn't see any results. My skin remained flushed and sensitive for 4-6 months after stopping obagi. Wish it had improved my skin
ps. My uglies were so bad that I had people pointing at me in the restaurant |

What is Sulfacetamide? Is it an RX? I told my last 3 derms about my whiteheads and they said that I should use less harsh products. I am curious about the sulfer, they never said anything about it and after 3 derms, I give up, I waste my money and I end up finding better information here....

I have a knock off facial brush (revlon) and I have been using it for almost a week, along with SA wash/every other day. It appears that my whiteheads are not as deep since I have been using the brush, they are really easy to get rid of, but I still get them NO LIE 6-10 a day. I always have to check the mirror before I get out of bed and have coffee in the AM with my sweetie- Cause I have 8 new whiteheads all over my face It is gross!!! |

Berquis,
Then you really need to look at a number of things. What products are you using on your face? Are you getting whiteheads or other type of skin breakouts other places on you (your body, etc.)? If so, maybe it's a larger issue - detoxing or allergy. |

Using the pretika brush (clarisonic for less than 1/3 the price) made a dramatic difference in the blackheads on my nose after one use! |

I appreciate your words of advice. I have used hundreds of products throughout the year to try to find out what is causing this. Trust me! I have analysed it to death. I have not changed my eating (all healthy, tons of water, very little sugars and very little fats). My derms have told me it is just the skin I have, that it does not slough off enough which causes this. I use VERY little makeup in fear of this. This is ridiculous, I should not have to live my life always wondering what "growth" I will have on my face. Again, I digress back to my old saying, "we can put the man on the moon, but can not clear pimples"! Find that hard to believe. |

I am sorry to hear that your skin react to OBagi badly, to hear people pointing at you at restaurants is unacceptable. You must have a high tolerance as I would have contacted my doctor or call EDS after a few weeks, perhaps your retinA strength was too high.
Are U using another product now and how does it work for you? |
