I've been using Devita sunscreen for the past 6 weeks or so. Love the texture and how it doesn't seem to clog my pores. However, I have noticed the skin under my eyes has become severely dry and crepey. There are a few things that could have caused it (e.g. migrating mandelic/lactic acid serum, a few applications of Neova Antiox Copper Peptides which I've stopped using) but I'm beginning to wonder if it's the Devita. I do put it all the way up to my lower eye lid because I have hyperpigmentation on orbital bone area and need to protect that area. I sometimes add a layer of the Becca Mineral Primer on top of Devita in the eye area for added protection.
Do you think it could be the Devita? If so, the zinc specifically? I am moisturizing the area (emu oil, remergent barrier repair, etc..) but it's not fixing it.
Thanks. |

I haven't tried the Devita yet (but I will) but I have heard complaints before that for one reason or another, it's not great for around the eyes. I suggest getting a different physical sunscreen that's more moisturizing for the eye area. |

I have to say, the number-one culprit I spot in your routine is the copper peptides. Also, peels like that could easily be the cause of that reaction, since they shouldn't really be used on such delicate areas.
I could be wrong, but I doubt it's the Devita! Zinc is fairly inert even when it is micronized, and there are very few other "active" ingredients in Devita (except a very tiny bit of HA). I've been using Devita for a couple years now, including in my eye area, and I've never seen anything like what you're describing.
Of course, I could be wrong -- have you tried doing a test where you forego just the Devita but keep all those other actives in your routine? |

OMG, I so know what you are going through! I experienced exactly what you are describing. It's frustrating because it could be a number of things that are causing your skin to react.
Are you dry anywhere else or it is just under your eyes? Sometimes the dermatitis could be caused by a topical fungus (especially if you have flakes in your eyebrows as well).
From the sounds of it, though, I agree with ginnielizz that it's probably either the CP's or the acid. I've used both of the sunscreens you've mentioned and between the two, I'd be more leary of the Becca since it has way more questionable ingredients, including an added fragance that could cause your skin to react. I loved that product but, sadly, had to discontinue it because my skin hated it (hello, cystic pimples!!) The Devita sunscreen is the least of your worries, in my opinion. I have very sensitive skin and can use it without any adverse effects whatsoever.
Simplify your routine to a gentle cleanser and a non-irritating, simple moisturizer, like emu or avocado oil until your condition clears up. Then re-introduce your products one by one to see if you are, in fact, reacting to one.
Let us know how you make out. |

Thanks everyone for thoughts.
It's only my under-eye area that seems to be suffering (dry, crepey, cross-hatchy). If it was the copper peptides..seems weird. I literally used them for like a week, and it was the Neova product which is the ghk version and lower strength. Who knows...I've stopped them regardless.
I'll keep moisturizing and keep the acids away from that area.
Glad others don't think it could be the Devita as it is thus far the best sunscreen I've found for daily use. But I'll avoid hitting the under-eye area with it for a few days to see what happens.
Thanks again! |
