I have been reading so many messages on the forum about Vitamin C products, the different types of vitamin C, oxidization, most stabilised forms etc. And it just got me confused as i am torn between which product to buy and which one will be the most effective?. Am i the only one?
So i thought i would do some research myself.
I have found this particularly useful link so i thought i would share it with others. This information has certainly helped me in deciding what Vit C products to buy.
Hope others find it useful aswell. Would appreciate any other useful information, love researching about skin care products

SAZ07 - interesting link. Thank you.
From the article it seems like SkinMedica can be a good choice, as it contains l-ascorbic acid and cones, which form a protective layer (if I didn't miss the point).
Have you got any suggestions on other brands that fulfils some of the claims in the article? Thank you. |

Septembergirl I just starting using the skinmedica line and the vit C has a really unusual texture, almost weighless when you put it on. I used it for about a week and broke out something aweful - huge under surface turmour like zits. I stopped using it for a week and then tried again - again huge zits, I look like I am growing horns from above my eyebrows
I loved the texture and maybe this is all coincidence, if these ever go away I might try it again |

Alley, I feel sorry for you!
You have apparently reacted to one of the ingredients in the serum. I hope you will be able to figure out which one in order to avoid these kinds of reactions in the future.
I have been using a sample of SkinMedica C complex without problems.
Hope your face recovers soon. |

Has anyone tried Benev 20% Vit c gel? This also contains silicones and a stabilized form of Vit C?
What is the texture like of the Skin Medica version and will it be suitable for oily skin? |

SkinMedica vit C complex is a white creamy gel.
Benev contains the oil soluble form of l-ascorbic acid. I haven't found many reviews on Benev C products and would also like to know if anyone has tried it. |

I have been using the 20% strength now for about 2 weeks, ive found it was not at all drying like some other vit C products ive tried.
It sunk into the skin quickly and does not leave my skin oily (have oily/combination skin).
I thought this product might cause me to break out (due to being oil soluble)but fortunately i havnt so far.
My complexion does appear brighter then before and it has calmed some of the redness i had, but i guess it is too early to see a big difference.
I have noticed the fine lines i had around mouth area are begining to diminish, i dont have any other lines on my face.
This product has suprised me because a little goes a very long way and the silicone softens my skin and my makeup glides an oeasily and looks flawless.
I will post another review in another 4 weeks or so. |

Thanks for the report.
What's the consistency like? Is it like a white gel texture? I would like to know if you get blackheads after some more weeks of use. To me, that's the main problem with the water-soluble form of l-ascorbic acid. |

Most of the Vit C product in a jar is unstable. Therefore, a number of houses did it in a two phases form (liquid phase + a solid phase[vit c powder]). |

I've been reading a little about oil soluble vitamin C. (The vitamin C in most vitamin C serums is the water soluble kind) An example of oil soluble vitamin C is ascorbyl palmitate. An example of water soluble vitamin C is ascorbic acid.
Oil soluble vitamin C is supposed to (based on my research) to be more effective and less irritating than water soluble vitamin C. Something to look into... |

Good news. In my opinion, the ampoule/capsule packaged vitamin C should be the best, no matter what form it is... |

I can't argue with that. That's gauranteed freshness right there. Unfortunately, these products tend to be on the expensive side. |

I think Elezebeth Arden's visible whitening pure intensive capsules are OK,
you can find it here for $59.

However, I can't find this product at elizabeth arden's official website, instead I found a product called Ceramide Gold Ultra Restorative Capsules, I don't know whether they changed its name or not. ANyway, this nes stuff is $68.00, still much cheaper than cellex-C or skinceuticles. |

It a clear liquid form. The best product it resembles in texture is Cellex C B5 (HA serum) but a little thinner, its clear like B5 but absorbs much quicker than B5.
Will keep you updated if i get any blackheads. |
