I was surfing the web and found an article that was published in Plastic Surgery News: World Roundup 2005. It explained how the condition of your nails can be health indicators. It made sense to me because I have a problem with ridges in my nails, (inflammatory arthritis) and that would fit my profile. Anyway, thought I would share this as it's quite interesting:
Half-white, half-pink nails which can indicate kidney malfunction.
Red nail beds may suggest heart disease.
Yellowing, thickening nails, with slowing growth, is sometimes caused by lung diseases like congestive obstructive pulmonary disease or emphysema.
”Clubbing,” which likes look the nail itself is on upside down so that it resembles a tea spoon, can also indicate lung problems.
Pale whitish nail beds can mean anemia.
Pitting or rippling in the surface of the nail can be a symptom of psoriasis or inflammatory arthritis.
Painful lumps at the matrix or under the surface of the nail can be a sign that a wart or tumor is growing and should be tested.
Irregular red lines at the base of the nail may be a sign of Lupus or connective tissue disease. |

I also read that it's a sign of vit B12 deficiency if the half-moons (lunula) in the base of nails don't show. I take a supplement with vit B12, but my half-moons are still hardly visible. |

is it not the other way round?
if it does show a halfmoon, then there is a vitamin deficiency?
i have never ever had any halfmoon |
