Well, I give up (for now, at least). If you live near N.Y. you know that we have had a horrific heat wave the last several days. No matter what I do, I wind up looking like an oily wreck in this kind of weather with other sunblocks. I really want physical only, and love Epicuren & Keys-Soap, but in this kind of weather, only Sofina keeps me matte all day. But I hate that it has 4% chemical (along with 13% ZO).
Once the weather cools off I plan to go back to Epicuren but I have a feeling that as the summer progresses I will have to switch back to Sofina 'till the fall. |

I do! It's sooooo hot! I'm using Devita. I did try the Epicuren and I think the Devita is a tiny bit lighter than the Epicuren. HTH!

You can try DHC white sunscreen or Fancl Sunguard. Both have textures like Sofina but all physical and very matte. Downside is that both are only spf 30. |

Stardusty - Excellent memory! Yes, I had originally posted the review on Becca's Mineral Primer, but have stopped using it recently. Although I do think it's a nice product, it was leaving too much of a white caste on me and I also found that as the tube got older the product would thicken in the tube and be harder to spread, if that makes any sense.
I moved on to Fallene COTZ (awfully thick & yellow, don't ask), Osmosis (nice company philosophy, very strong fragrance, I like how it first goes on but as the day goes on it gets greasy and the ZO starts to show more), Mychelle (too white), DHC & Paula Begoin (both too white for me). I tried Devita which is very popular - for me it is a little too oily - I prefer Epicuren to it (they are very similar in texture, I just gave the nod to Epicuren because the ZO is 20% and I liked the vitamins & other ingredients). I also use Keys-Soap around my eyes, Nano ZO 18% but too white-ish for my whole face.
Fancl has been on my "to try" list, just haven't gotton to it, I believe it's 12% ZO & 6% TD. Does it leave a white caste? Is is as good for the oilies as Sofina? I'm wearing Sofina again today and dying of guilt..... |

sigh Girlzmommie, I understand your pain. I got myself a sample of the Becca primer to try after your review but haven't got to it yet.
If Epicuren works for u in the winter, that's good. I guess u can still use it for summer and try using a primer afterwards? And then loose powder to absorb the shine? ... I wanna try Epicuren too but too bad it's only SPF 20 althought it has a PPD of around 10.
Sometimes when I found something that I like and realized there're bad ingredients in it...it's quite frustrating but I'll still keep on using it until I found something better. |

Natural Instinct
Out of all physical sunblocks with ZO or TD, I like Natural Instinct the best. It is produced and sold in Australia, and they deliver to US. I ordered it some time ago, and it was delivered rather promptly. It is not as thin as Sofina, more lotion like. I always have second thoughts about chemical ingredients in sunblocks, and Natural Instinct is all phisical sunblock, contains micronized ZO, so it does not leave much of white cast.
Ayurvedic SPF75
Another sunscreen that I like a lot is Ayurvedic Aloevera Face & Body Sun Protection SPF-75. This sunscreen does not contain usual chemical or sunblock ingredients, but rather natural ones. My concern with this one if it indeed provides protection.

OOOOHH I like how this Natural Instinct looks - I just read the reviews on MUA, they all say it's drying which for me is actually a good thing, it's the whole reason I had to go back to Sofina (to not get oily during the humid days).
I am going to try this one next, but will keep with the Sofina 'till it comes (or the weather changes, whatever comes first).
Has anyone else ever used it?
So hard to find a ZO based sunblock that isn't white/greasy!!! |

i have oily skin and live in a hot climate and am really liking the zenbiotic sunblock - it's natural and the texture is very light, and does not make my face as oily as the other sunblocks at the end of the day. it hasn't been tested for spf but they rate it for moderate us, about spf30-35.
hth! |

and also I emailed Zentiotic asking them what's the % of Zinc Oxide they used in the sunblock. They said it's 10% so it's a PPD of 5.5. |

I had used Zenbiotic before. I was uncomfortable with the fact that when I used it (maybe a year ago?) the label said "zinc" on the ingredient list, not zinc oxide. There is a big difference between the two and I e-mailed the company about it - there are previous threads about this if you do a search, many of us were concerned about the labeling.
Zenbiotics eventually changed their labeling (partly because of my e-mail as well as others) but it made me leery that such a key ingredient was not properly listed, didn't seem professional. Stayed away from it after that. But thanks anyway.
I'm still planing to try Natural Instincts - does it leave you white at all? |

Anyone know where someone in the US can order Natural Instinct or the Ayurvedic SPF75 from? I tried doing a search for the ayurvedic product but found absolutely nothing..only found one site for the NI (no ingredients listed).
Thanks. |

That really bothers me when no ingredients are listed! Is this the case with most australian products?

I used the Natural Instinct sunscreen this morning, underneath my tinted moisturiser. It's not as thick as most zinc based sunblocks so it's not like applying a thick film of grease to the face. It's quite light and feels nice. It is a little more greasy than the Sofina Nuance. My tinted moisturiser went on smoothly over the top and pretty much looked the same as if I'd used the Sofina.
I do like this sunblock - it's about the best zinc based one I've tried. However, if I had to pick between the Sofina and the Natural Instinct, I'd probably still stay with the Sofina. I love the milky consistency and the fact that it goes on like a primer. But then again, I have to buy the Sofina on the web and it's relatively expensive. I live in Australia so the Natural Instinct is readily available and it's well priced at AUD$15.95 for 250gm. HTH. |

I also ordered the Natural Instinct mineral sunscreen from Australia and although I'm very pleased with the consistency and the price, this sunblock, unfortunately, looks a bit too oily on my skin
I'm not going to use it while in the city, but may be when going to the beach since it's 4 hours water resistant |
