I'm wondering if most of the pumpkin masks out there are similar? I'm currently using one called Bella Luccre (sp?). It's a powder form and you mixed it with water as a paste to apply on your face. I can put it on for as long as I want without redness or burning. It's very good for sensitive skin. I do feel that my skin is more clear and even toned afterwards. It's smoother.

Recently, I was going thru the threads here and saw that PSF Pumpkin mask got good reviews but seems to irritate sensitive skin? So my question is... are all pumpkin masks created similar?

Like all products, they will vary with ingredients and even if the ingredients listing was the same the %'s and quality could vary.

NCN Pro Pumpkin Peel is the strongest one I have come across. It contains 30 % glycolic, lactic and fruit acids in addition to pure pumpkin.

Big difference between pumpkin masks!

I've tried a few (Zia, PSF, NCN, etc.) and my fav is NCN Pro Pumpkin Peel - but it is 30% acid so try a sample first Wink PSF's is 8% acid.

Nanci's (NCN) sample page:
http://www.ncnproskincare.com/skin-care-products/skincare-product-catalog/samples.html

PSF's sample page:
https://www.psfskincare.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=SMPL&keywords=all

If you do an EDS search, there is at least one thread comparing PSF and NCN's.

Thanks lunarmm for posting the sample threads! I understand that it's not true the stronger it is, the better it is... but if stronger, it encourages peeling more effectively so clear skin faster?

Oh also, for those of u that tried the PSF Pumpkin mask, does it burn or irritate your skin? It says it's not recommended for sensitive skin... I won't say my skin is very sensitive but it gets red easily so hhm...

And this is the mask that I'm using now.

since many of these pumpkin masks also contain acids, would it be more likely that it is the AHAs or BHAs that are helping to soften and refine the skin? if you used the masks without any additional acids and just pumpkin concentrate, it may have a much less effective result

It is wrong, every pumpkin mask has different ingredients, even they have the same ingredients, you will never know the proportion of these ingredients.

Good question - I could be wrong, but I think it's a fruit enzyme which can also be used to exfoliate the skin along with papaya and pineapple.

For me, at least, I prefer PSF pumpkin mask. It contains 8% glycolic acid, which is really all I need. NCN at 30% is overkill.

I have pretty tolerant skin, but when I first used the PSF mask, I had to rinse it off after 5 minutes. I've worked up to 45 minutes and mist it with hydrosol after 20 minutes to "refresh" it and get the most out of it.

Hi Stardusty, it really depends upon how sensitive your skin is. All Pumpkin masks are not created equal; the effectiveness is really dependent upon the ingredients, formulation, and of course your own reaction.

There's a difference between burning and tingling. I still feel a tingling when I apply the mask, but it's not uncomfortable. But I worked up to it and started with a 5 minute application. If you're starting to burn and feel uncomfortable, that's a definite sign to rinse it off Smile

Thanks athena123!

So basically it's just a tingling or burning sensation without necessarily having it burned the skin? I guess if I feel at all uncomfortable, rinsing it off right away should be fine I hope Confused

If you experience a burning sensation that does not decrease after 30 seconds, RINSE the mask off immediately.

I feel a major tingling sensation for 30 seconds or so which subsides but still tingles. I am able to keep the NCN on for the full 20 minutes. First time I put it on, I freaked and thought I was going to burn my skin but waited and the sensation did relent after a few seconds and I was fine.

Trust your gut instinct. People have gotten "burned". And everyone's skin is different. I highly recommend you get samples before buying full size products for this very reason.

I would not use the NCN 30% Pro Pumpkin Peel if I exfoliated a lot with other methods. It is my primary mode of exfoliation other than the daily use of the Clarisonic. I use it once a week or less (alternating it with a DIY company's aspirin mask).

I have pretty sensitive skin and the first few times I used the mask it felt like it was burning although my face did not get red. Because I have sensitive skin I started with 5 mins then added 5 mins each time. I can now leave it on for an hour without my face getting red or burning at all.
