So what kinda packaging do you like? I've bought some products before that came in "tubes" but now I always avoid them because they spill when I travel with them...
but the pump bottles aren't perfect either cuz they don't always lock properly....
lol ok this thread sounds weird...maybe i shouldn't be posting this early in the morning |

I prefer pump bottles. It's convenient and hygienic. |

I also prefer a pump bottle, however there is always some product left and you can`t get it out of it |

oh, and when a pump bottle is non-transparent, you never know when you will run out of a product... it can happen so unexpectable and you can have no substitute product |

1 pump - but not so safe for travel purposes
2 tubes - hygienic & safe in suitcases
3 pots - inconvenient and rather unhygienic |

definitely tubes - pumps don't lock properly, don't travel well and don't empty well. tubes you can cut open to use the teensiest winceiest bit that is left over! |

Stem Organics uses an amber glass bottle with a unique chubby locking pump that snaps open or close with a full half turn. There's no separate lid, they don't leak in the closed position, the amber is not so dark that you can't see how much product is in there, and you can remove the top part altogether to tap or shake the last of the product out. I wish more lines used them.

My award for worst ever packaging goes to L’Occitane Immortelle Brightening Renewing Serum (not available at EDS, only on the Asian market I think).
A day or two after purchase I went on a trip, packed it carefully (in bubble wrap no less) and on arrival it had leaked everywhere. I thought maybe I hadn’t screwed the lid on tight enough. However, had the same problem on the flight home ... grrr. Then back at home I noticed the bottle always seemed to be not closed properly when I used it. Thought I was going mad ...but decided to test it. Put it on the desk in front of me, screwed it down tight, and within a minute or so tested it and the top was loose again. Did this several times with the same result. I have no idea how this is even possible. Maybe my bottle was haunted |

For most pump bottles, you can lock it so it won't spill. The one thing I don't like about pump bottles is that I can't pump out the last bit of product from the bottle. And it seems such a waste. |

Really though packaging should be completely opaque, to prevent degradation of product...
It is so annoying though to finish a pump bottle and open it, and find like...half of it is still in there |

Tubes are the best. Especially if they have good lids (screw on as opposed to those pop-up lids). |

For cleansers, I like pumps. For most things I like tubes though. Also when I think I'm done with the tube I cut it open so that I get every last drop of product out of it. |

I like pump bottles if they lock easily, and stay that way, for travel.
I also like tubes because when you get toward the end of a product you can cut the top of the tube off, scoop out the rest of the product, and put it in a little jar. Very cost effective since you use every last bit! |

That is why I love the LUSH stuff. No packaging and the moisturizers you can scrape every last bit. Its not air tight so that can degrade the product but I also use a clean scoop every time so I dont contaminate it.
If a bottle gets really low I just add a bit of hydrosol to be able to get the last drop. |

I like the look of jars (the elegant ones, like Lancome ones and such, not clinical-looking ones like Aesop). Jars have this romantic air about them, and I'm a hopeless romantic. BUT they are bulky and unhygienic. So thank goodness none of the skincare I use is packaged in jars.
I like pump bottles with cap. I don't trust locking necks they always unlock themselves when transported.
But best of all I like tubes. They are light, and can be cut open to make sure you get to the very last bit of product. |

I prefer pumps with extended nozzles, I HATE products with old glass packaging that you have to tip the product out of - sadly all my Emulsions are like this. I don't like tubes because they keep dispensing product even after you've stopped squeezing. I also do not like open jars, exposes too much product for contamination.
Some of the traditional spring action pumps break very easily especially if they fall onto the floor.
I don't mind bulky glass containers, I actually prefer them over cheap plastic stuff and it annoys me a lot when the printing on plastic starts flaking off and it ends up on your face - I remember a lot of people on MUA commenting that a certain Clinique skincare product would leave the skin with a lot of shimmer and I realised it was the silver lettering chipping off!! |

I prefer a pump bottle for essence, cream, gel...
I hate the tube hand cream with a separate cap. I dropped it once when I used it in a bus, too bad!! |

I'm really picky about packaging toxicity as well as all the convenience and hygiene concerns stated here. So I tend to prefer glass jars with either droppers or pumps, so that my product is in contact with minimal plastic or metal. (Most brands that use metal for their tubes coat the inside with a type of plastic, so I consider metal-seeming tubes and tins to actually count as plastic.)
It's annoying when you break something, but I just think glass is the most inert material for storing skincare products, so it's worth it for the nicer stuff. I sometimes even decant products from their original packaging into a glass pump jar (but this doesn't always work well). |

I am amazed that some companies don't get it that bottles, jars, and packaging of their products may persuade a consumer to buy or not. I prefer packaging that looks attractive and sturdy. I don't like cream that comes in a non-descript jar and just with a handmade sticky label on it, for example. Professional looking jars will sell much better. |

Does anyone have any recommendations on good travel containers they have used for their products - ones that pass the airline standards etc. etc.? There seem to be a few that came up in a google search, yet I always like to check with the EDS members to see what their experience(s) have been! Thank you. |

This isn't an everyday solution, but I really like Sephora's sample jars for travel purposes. They're sturdy and I can usually get them closed tightly enough so they don't leak on planes. And they have that little insert that keeps product from leeching out of the threads in the jars, know what I mean? I always try and remember to ask for a sample when I'm at Sephora even if I don't need anything, just to get more jars! |
