Anyone consciously increased their lycopene intake and found it helped with your ability to resist sunburn?
From what I've read, getting an extra 16mg of lycopene into your system over a few weeks or so and then maintaining that intake level can reduce your sunburn risk by 40%.
We've just added a daily 16oz glass of V8 i.e. 32mg of lycopene to our diets to see if it does help.
Would love to her if anyone else has tried this. |

The first I heard about lycopene and its antioxidant activity was its link to fighting prostrate cancer in males (or blokes as we like to call them here in Australia!)
So for my guy, there was a very big motivation to start liking tomatoes!!! Lycopgene naturally occurs at its highest levels in tomatoes and since we always are into dishes prepared with tomatoes, and tomatoe sauce it's good to know we're doing some good for our insides.
If I can get a good thing without consciously ingesting it, it's a big bonus ! When it comes to sun resistance, topically speaking I'm still full on in choosing the best SPF, leaving nothing to chance there. |

I am making more effort to eat tomatoes, but I have no idea if I'm eating more or not, it's possible I'm just eating the same. |

as an fyi for those reading this thread - lycopene is best created thru cooked tomato products.
AND whatever you do, still use sunscreen! this'll just help your internal resistence, it's not a replacement for good ole topical UVA/UVB protection |

Yes, I eat during spring/summer times more tomato soup - but I never miss my sunscreen. |

I've just started taking a supplement, for this coming summer, I bought 3 months supply.
I'm reallyhoping to get through this summer without adding to my sun damage.
Last year, the Bioderma spf50, didnt do me any great favours.
This year I have a physical sunscreen, from NIA24.
So, fingers crossed! |

Hi there!
I'm in the UK and in Boots ( our main high street pharmacy) I found a supplement called Lyc- O-Mato.[url]http://www.lycomato.co.uk/
StarDusty.. You can imagine how despondent I was.. after reading about it all and thinking I was making a great choice! I got one big dark freckle on the bridge of my nose and one the same which isnt going away on my forehead, too.
I'm thinking HATS have to be my new summer look. I'm even wondering about getting a fringe cut, just for summer... |

A Technion study also showed that taking a cup or two of green tea before sunning significantly decreased skin damage (they looked at skin biopsies before and after sunning. |

Wow! thanks for adding that info to the mix, sharky.
I love green tea, and will definitely consciously consume more while on holiday, then.
I was taking big doses of VIt C last summer, too, I thought that would help. Who knows, maybe I would have worse sun damage if I hadnt taken it. |

I also have trouble making it through the summer without getting sun damage. I have used soooo many sunscreens. I don't think there's one that completely blocks the sun? I take vitamin c because I'd heard that helps. And now I will be adding lycopene. Hopefully that will help me this summer. |

catski, I'm sry to hear that u get a freckle on your nose even though u applied ss...and Bioderma too, the highest PPD out there I can imagine. hhm... Now I'm wary of which ss is actually good
Maybe taking something internally and applying something externally will be the best protection. |
