A few months ago, I bought the Sephora brand facial brush with synthetic bristles...I was just using a bit of facial cleanser to clean it out, but its starting to have that 'wet' smell...any suggestions on how to clean it?? |

After you clean it, make sure to rinse it thoroughly, and then dry it by pressing it againt a towel. HTH! |

Bobbi Brown's brush cleanser is quite good. |

I usually use a mild shampoo to wash my brushes. I think it works fine too. |

I blow dry my brushes very gently after cleansing to make sure I dry the very ends of the brush that is connected to the handle |

that's wierd, and it's synthetic?
If it helps, I use my face cleanser to clean all of my brushes which are mostly all synthetics. I then wrap them up in a paper towel to dry back to the original shape. They do seem to take much longer to dry then my natural hair brushes which is why I have a back-up for my kabuki but I've never noticed any sorta smell like the kind you get from the natural hair. Maybe just try to let them dry longer and get a second one so you won't have to wait? |

I agree with Stardustdy...I also use a mild shampoo to clean my brushes and then gently squeeze out the excess water after cleaning. Then, I lay flat on a clean surface (i.e. clean washcloth, paper towels, etc). That should do the trick! And as far as the smell, perhaps it isn't drying fast enough, you should try to find an area in the house that will allow the brushes to dry faster... |

Oooh, maybe I should have specified, my makeup brushes are just fine...it's a synthetic brush to scrub with (the same texture as a toothbrush)...I'll try blowdrying it to see if that helps! |

I wash the brushes or even sponge with the shampoo, rinse it thoroughly, may repeat several times to make sure it is clean.
Squeeze the excess water and put it on a tissue paper, then place it next to the window. Ususally, it will dry and back to normal over night. |

I don't think blow drying the brushes is a good idea! It may damage the bristles |

I use a gentle shampoo. Word of warning: For a short while, I used Dr. Bronner's eucalyptus liquid soap to clean my brushes. My brushes started to look and feel funky. Back to the shampoo, and they are fine again. |

I use baby shampoo then shape the brush so there's no flyaways before I lay it out to dry. Takes a couple days to air dry. |

It sounds like bacteria may growing in the brush and causing the smell. If it's one of those nylon face brushes and you've tried everything else, I would maybe try a very mild bleach and water mixture (one part bleach and several parts water). Then rinse really well and leave it out in an open area to dry with the bristles facing up so they're exposed to air. And make sure you leave it out in the open after you use it so it dries. HTH! |

I saw on a website which was posted here before (cant remember when and where) that sells all kinda brushes. they teach u how to clean the brushes - wash with mild shampoo, then conditioner (just like washihng your hair!). then lay them down flat on a towel overnite. NEVER place your brushes with the hair pointing up, coz water would drip down and destroy the glue, making the hair to fall out easily in future.
I tried that many times and i like it. |
