Very impressive selection existental lady I'm a big fan of foreign language cinema as well.
Saw Lives of others twice earlier this year in the cinema it just blew me away and Raise the red lantern is just wonderful, I wish they would hurry up and bring it out on region 2 DVD. I'm a big Fassbinder fan as well although I prefer Love is Colder than Death, he made so many great films how sad he was lost to us so young . |

Awww yeh, another Dune fan! When I was in 3rd grade the long version was broadcast on TV for the first time, and my Mom and I stayed up til like 3 in the morning watching it---- I've been hooked ever since. Everything about that movie is so bitchin! (I even have the soundtrack....) |

Cathy do you mean 2 days in paris the recent Julie delpy film? I loved that do you remember the guy Mathieu who Delpy's character was suspected to be having an affair with she visits after he big fight with Adam Goldberg?
Anyway he was just so gorgeous, he fast became my top celebrity crush except he has hardly made any films so he's not much of a celebrity! |

Oh, yes, that's the one I meant. I thought it was so very funny and I loved all the characters. Do you remember when Adam Goldberg said he was a huge Val Kilmer fan when they go to visit Jim Morrison's grave That was my favorite line; so clever! |

Yeah it was brilliant, that line was really funny! I'm such a geek and went to see that twice as well . I have it on pre-order for when it comes out on dvd, can't wait to see it again. Have you watched Before Sunrise and Before Sunset they are great too.
P.S. seeing as this is a skincare board would like to know what Julie delpy uses as she has hardly aged a bit ... beautiful woman. |

Yes, Dune rules! That's amazing that you were in the 3rd grade and were able to follow that movie! (I was in my 20s when I first saw it and I had to watch it three times as even though I was mesmerized by it I kept falling asleep because I found it confusing.

You should be grateful to them - it's one of the best films ever made!
Actually, after sitting through the entire director's cut without a single break, I felt as though I'd been in that U-boat, living through the whole thing with those men. I felt so exhausted, drained and devastated.
I want films that take me on an emotional rollercoaster ride and make me really FEEL. Das Boot most definitely does that.

There are some moveies that no matter how many times I've seen them, I can't resist. Most of them are contemporary...however....here goes:
The Sting
Some Like It Hot
The Fugitive
Shakespeare in Love
Romeo and Juliet (with Olivia Hussey)
Love Actually
Four Weddings and a Funeral
About a Boy
(hmmmm....Hugh Grant theme there with those last three)
Devil Wears Prada

Oh my gosh, there are soooo many, but off the top of my head....
1) Cinema Paradiso (seen it about 8 times!)
2) Lives of Others
3) City of God
4) Citizen Kane
5) American Gangster
I love foreign movies and find them, usually, much more engrossing and thought provoking than what Hollywood churns out. Oh and my current fave documentary is "No End in Sight" - highly recommend that everyone see this one! |
