Here goes the Big Question: I am making a cream with 4% Glucosamine, 2% Niacinamide and 2% Gamma Oryzanol (and I wonder if 2% of this is the correct amount - a question within a question - how's that?). Do you think I could add some Pearl? I thought this should be the "right" cream for it, but I do not know what percentage would be beneficial.

I would be most grateful if you could let me know your opinion and point me in the right direction.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Maybe if you look up the original recipe of Marys Pearl Cream Paste it might give you a better idea of how to add the Pearl Powder to what you are making. I made the first batch and it wasn't moisturising enough for my skin so I added some more moisturising ingredients but have a heap of actives coming and want to incorporate them somehow, so am working on this at present.
What is Gramma Oryzanol? If you don't mind me asking,I haven't heard of this one.

Thank you for your suggestion: I am in fact trying to formulate something a little bit different from the wonderful Pearl Cream Paste -My objective is to reduced hyperpigmentation, age spots and uneven melanin distribution (hence Nicinamide + Glucosamide) - The Gamma Oryzanol is to help protect from UV and also to control redness (and it's an antiox).

I thought that this was the right concoction in which to add Pearl (for redness as well)- obviously there are other actives in it: red raspberry oil, vitamin B5, isoflavones, boswellia - all should (in my opinion) help to soothe the skin, control redness and blotchiness, help with sun protection and sun spots.

I just do not know how much peral powder to add: I am soooo tired of trhowing away my precious actives...so I thought I would ask here, before trying it out.

Mardy, thanks again for your kind reply.

I have got some Liquorice extract coming which is supposed to be good for lightening spots etc.. Those actives sound really good, with Marys original it says 2 teaspoons of Pearl Powder but I put 2 Teaspoons and 1/2 teaspoon of pearl silk dissolved in water. Maybe you could just start out with that. I put that amount into a 2oz cream, I would suggest just to slowly add the actives to get the consistency you want, start off small you can always add more. The first batches I made were so small and fidely because I did not want to waste actives either. Try this site this might help (I hope I have this web address right)

If you have sensitive skin niacinamide might trigger irritation and redness. There have been several studies (posted on SAS) that show glucosamine is an effective lightening agent.

Also have you tried mulberry extract?

Wow! Thanks a bunch for all your anwsers: Niacinamide has already been used on my skin with no adverse effect - I will use the suggested amount of pearl, and the licorice is a great idea.
Also, thank you for posting the VERY useful calculator.

Have a great day,

I made, what I think, is a 4% Glucosamine 2% Nicinamide solution. I used 2 tsp of glucosamine & 1 tsp of Niacinamide in 4 oz of h2o.

I read in another forum that .5-1% pearl would be a proper amount to add to the 4%glu/2%nia solution. So, I added 1/2 tsp of pearl powder. Do these proportions sound correct??

How long does it take before you see results of using glucosamine-niacinamide?

Your proportions sound fine - I use 1/2tsp G and 1/4tsp N to 1oz water, so that's the same ratio. Don't know about the Pearl Powder though, what benefit does it have?
