I wonder if any of u here will get a PVC sofa for around $600 or a genuine leather sofa for double the price or more?

Sometimes I can't really tell the difference in terms of appearance. They looked equally as nice.

Also, what's the advantage or disadvantage of using a PVC or leather sofa?

I need help!! TIA Smile

Good: easy to clean

Bad: sticky to sit on with bare skin.

My Personal Opinion: Not homey at all. Screams "Law Office."

The advantage of leather is not the appearance, but the fact that it is natural and breathes. You will not stick to it in your shorts. It will not rip like a cheap purse. It ages beautifully and lasts much longer than a synthetic fabric. There are all kinds of styles in leather and not all of them look like office furniture.

Okay, I have to say, I DO stick to leather sofas. And I have leather seats in my car -- which I will not do again.

Maybe it's just sweaty me. . .

I had a leather sofa years ago and swore I'd never have one again. In winter it was cold to sit on and in summer it made you sweat - my DH had to put a sarong under him to lay on the couch. It was a mushroom colour which also showed the dirt and was hard to clean. I would imagine that PVC would have the same problems plus wouldn't age as well.

At the moment we have chunky cane lounges with removable cushions. This works well for us because if the cushions need to be cleaned/recovered they can be easily removed.

keliu, I agree that a leather sofa is cold to sit on in winter. I don't have trouble with sweating on it in summer. I think they stuff them so full of synthetic fillers that even the leather can't breathe perhaps. Though my neigbors have a newish one that is also very nice and comfortable. No comparison with PVC, IMHO

PVC will crack and rip where as a natural leather sofa will not. I had a PVC sofa before and after a few months there were cracks in the materia and and by the end of the year you could see the threads coming out of the cracks. Another option that is not as expensive as a fully genuine leather sofa is Bicast leather sofas. Bicast leather is a lower grade leather with a vinyl coating. It looks like the real thing and don't crack like the full PVC material does. My sister has had her bicast leather sofas for ~2yrs and they still look great. But they do stick to your skin and feel cold!

Thanks Canadian Girl for the bycast leather suggestion! Btw, are there many different kinds of PVC too?

There probably are different grades of PVC, but I am not too familiar with them.
