What do you all do to keep your lips soft and smooth, and avoid dryness and chapping?
I don't seem to have much luck with lip creams. Does anybody have success with using exfoliators or creams designed for skin on their lips? Any tips and tricks you would like to share? |

I'll be interested in replies here as well...I am always on a quest for something that hydrates my lips and doesn't cause me to feel like I need to reapply every few minutes.
I just bought some neat little lip applicators from Lotioncrafter.com and am going to make some lip stuff with emu as my base, along with shea butter, etc. |

I never get chapped lips thanks to Smith's Rosebud Salve! This stuff is awesome! It makes my lips very soft and shiny and its not sticky. I use in the am/pm and hardly ever reapply during the day. I have tried the Elizabeth Arden eight hour lip balm as well. It's pretty good but I can't afford to spend $15 on lip balm every month! The Rosebud Salve lasts for ever. I bought my first tin 2 years ago and I still have about half a tin left. |

I got all excited because I *thought* I had received a sample of this from EDS, and just ran to get it. Instead, it turned out to be Smith's Mentholated Salve. Drat!! |

Whenever I apply jojoba oil to my face, I make sure to put some on my lips, too. It isn't something I use AM and PM, but I feel like it is a nice little treatment to soften them up. I also make sure to use a sunscreen on them whenever I am out for my run or walk. I will be watching to see what everyone is using. I have heard about that Rosebud Salve before, so I am thinking that must be a pretty good one. Now...to find it!!! Do you have to order it, or is there a store that sells it? THANKS! |

babyb, you can order it on EDS. It's under ROSEBUD. There are 5 flavours. I've only used the rose one. (which is pink in the blue tin) |

chronic dry lips could be a sign that you lack omega 3 or fatty acid intake. My lips have stopped peeling since I started supplementing oils, but occasionally flake when exposed to the cold. I have been using the Kose Vague lip cream for several years. I exfoliate my lips lightly after a shower once a fortnight when there is more dead skin build up. |

I mentioned this in another thread but I love the Pangea Organics Lip Balms. They are completely natural, smell divine and very healing and nourishing for the lips.
I have tried the 'Rosebud' lip balms and personally was put off by the ingredients, petroleum etc and the container.
Also the Pangea is a roll up "lipstick" style which is easier to apply.
Just my 2 cents though of course |

I have very dry skin and used to have terrible problems with chapped lips, particularly in winter.
The product that solved this for me was Valmont Eye & Lip Cellular Contour Cream. It's great for moisturising and soothing both lips and eyes. It keeps my lips feeling soft, smooth and plump.
Actually, I got a free gift with an EDS order a while ago of Valmont's Lip Repair. To my surprise, it was even better than the Cellular Contour Cream. It's more of a lotion in texture, but works amazingly well on lips. I'll definitely be ordering it in future. |

I agree that shea butter keeps lips soft. I prefer shea to petrolatum and waxes. |

La Roche Posay CeraLip or Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is the best I have found.
Mine cracks as well as it is getting chapped. This is the best I have found so far. |

the best way to get soft lips and get rid of chapped dry skin is to take a hot,wet towel and wipe your lips, all of the dry skin will coe off revealing fresh soft skin.Put a little chapstick or vaseline on afterwards.... |

Hi, sister sweets.
I agree that their products look very nice. I am going to order the Pangea lip balm next time I place an EDS-order, and have also been eyeing their mask with acai and goji berries... |

Cool, Bethany, unfortunately I'm not much of a DIY gal. You might want to add some hyaluronic acid if you have it.
Tips I can give: yes, exfoliate your lips.
I learned this from Lips2Kiss kit. It was the first time I ever exfoliated my lips and I was amazed what came off! I did not follow the whole Lips2Kiss protocol but do think Kandis makes great products.
Other ways to exfoliate your lips. There are other products out there. One that is affordable is Sally Hansen's Gentle Peel for Rough Lips:
http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?product=7
Other Sally Hansen lip treatments:
http://www.sallyhansen.com/category.cfm?category=12
Use your Clarisonic skin brush or even Sonicare tooth brush on your lips (without toothpaste but wet) to exfoliate. Or try a regular toothbrush or skin brush (dry).
Use a microfiber cloth/"microdermabrasion" cloth or sponge on your lips as well as your face.
Be careful because the lips are sensitive tissue. Every one has different tolerances, but I am able to put some NCN Pro Pumpkin Peel or DIY company aspirin mask on my lips as well as my face. This plumps them up, exfoliates well, and also deepens their color (I don't wear lip color just balm or gloss).
If you're okay with petroleum-based products, Aquaphor lasts the longest on my lips of any lip product. The best is to get the mini-ones if you can find them - easiest to apply to lips and portable. Good for protection when I am outdoors or when I know I won't be able to reapply lip balm often.
But the moisturizers that penetrate best are natural oils, like emu, shea, etc. Since I'm not much of a DIYer, one of my favorite lip balms is from Laid in Montana - I have the tangerine and love it:
Laid in Montana Natural Lip Balm (15% Emu Oil) Large 1/4 Oz. Tubes $4.95
Flavors: unscented, cherry almond, natural peppermint, tangerine, vanilla spice
http://cart.laidinmt.com/catalog/LM-Lip-Balm-orderby0-p-1-c-12.html
I also LOVE their other products (their Workers Cream for Hands & Feet (15% emu oil) is amazing!!! I'm not so much into the clove scent it gives off but it's worth it for the results it gives me on hands and feet!!!!) |

I am sure the shea butter and emu oil will make a good combination. I have made my own wax-free lip balm by mixing l'Occitane shea butter and avocado oil, and adding a few drops of peppermint or spearmint EO for a fresh taste. It's very nice. What I like about avocado oil, is that it gives the lips a natural, pinkish colour.
In one of my batches I added some ready made HA serum, as suggested by Lunarmm, and the balm turned to a more fluffy, creamy consistency.
Next, I would like to try the Valmont lip cream. It has got some good reviews. |

I got those little lip gloss tubes too! I'm actually using one for my vitamin C serum. I made about a 2 oz batch, but I'm keeping it in the refrigerator and filling up the lip gloss tube with it as I use it.

I use straight emu oil and am pretty happy with it. Now if I could just put it in my eyes to get rid of the dryness I'm plagued with there -- nothing seems to help..... |
