I just found Susan Henry's website who created ammonia free permanent coloring systems for hair, and wonder if anyone has experience with her products and if this would perform well over hennaed hair.
Thanks a lot. |

Well, I want to get rid of my henna. There are not that many color choices first of all. I do love the mahogany color that I have but it just does not fit my personality, or this is how I feel right now. I might just need a change.... |

Hennaed hair can be dyed over if you used BAQ henna, but you will probably have to use a color that is as dark or darker than what you have now.
I'm in the strand testing portion before I henna my hair, so I've been doing a lot of reading lately on henna and what happens when you get tired of the henna.
You might ask this same question on the hennaforhair site. |

Have you tried Robert Craig hair color? It is non-damaging, non-ammonia, and very easy to mix your own colors.

Thank you aa6660, I have been checking on the henna stripping, and yes, all I have used just BAQ henna and still have some leftover, so I am probably going to use that before I switch to anything else. Also got an answer from Robert Craig's crew saying the same thing what you say aa660 that hennaed hair cannot be colored in lighter, just darker, effect that I really would not want, but it could be a transitioning from henna to non-ammonia hair coloring. I just cut my hair short so in couple of months ( my hair grows crazy, and falls crazy too ) I should have the hennaed hair grown out and all cut off.
Lot to think about.... thanks for your suggestion Bethany, I did not try Robert Craig's hair color, but I was looking at it last night, and made the color profile then asked the company questions. They responded promptly, while from Susan Henry I am still waiting for an answer. |

Bethany,
I just went to the site you mentioned and I am so impressed. One of the issues I have with any hair color is that with the ammonia in it the hair tends to have golden tones and get brassy as it wears. I color my mother's hair and it should be a ash brown and I think this product will help it stay the ash brown without getting brassy. Thanks for mentioning it.

One thing to note about the Robert Craig color...it does NOT lift (meaning lighten), it only deposits color.
I use it in between my salon color to touch up my roots and freshen my color since red fades so quickly. (and to keep my white skunk stripe at the roots from being so obvious!)
I use:
1/3 #7 Golden Chestnut (neutral light brown color)
1/3 #13 Coppery Golden Blonde (light red)
1/3 #21 Clear (which makes it lighter)
There are 2 ways to control how deep the color is...how long you leave it on, and Clear to lighten it.
But if you have gray, you need to leave it on longer so that it fully penetrates, so using Clear is a better option. Plus, if you choose to refresh your color and pull it through each time (meaning not just your roots), the color builds a little each time UNLESS you lighten it up a bit with the Clear.
I have been using this for years and really like it...I also do my eyebrows with it at the same time since I have a lot of blonde ones.
BEFORE you buy, make sure that you email Karin...she owns a salon, knows what she is doing, and will help you get the color right the FIRST time.
Also, if you order, be sure to ask in the comments field for them to throw in a color chart, which is a little color print out of all the colors. (it's better when it's not on your monitor)
OR, just ask for them to mail you one BEFORE you order! |
