I wonder how many ladies here still put on their makeup even though they're so sick I was very sick yesterday with diarrhea and vomiting... my bf is picking me up to see a doctor. As I don't want to scare him with my sick face, I still apply some sort of concealer to cover my circles and some lip gloss. He said that I look sick..well yeah I'm sick... I was also so dizzy and tired that I just want to lie down and do nothing. So yeah, would like to know how many of u will try to look nice for your bf even though u r in pain? |

Stardustdy, if memory serves me correctly, this is the bf you are going to be moving in with and eventually marrying, is that right? If so, it's definitely more than OK to let him see you as you are, sick and all. While I generally consider myself a neat and put-together woman, my husband has definitely seen me looking pretty rough when I've been sick and he has never minded--- that's really part of loving someone, you know? So, as much as I can appreciate your feminine instincts working overtime, my advice is to give yourself a break sometimes, esp. when you aren't feeling well.
PS: Hope you feel better soon! |

Sorry you are not feeling well. When I am sick and "staying" home, most likely not. I will shower though, morning and night because it will make me feel better. If my BF will be over, the most I will do is put concealer on my blemishes, but that is it. Now when I am sick and have to go to the doctors, YES! If I am going out in public, makeup (even know it is a minimum for me everyday-more so if I am sick) is a must. I already feel like crud, the last thing I want to do is look anymore like crud (at least if I can help it.) |

If I'm staying home, no makeup. If I have to go out briefly, like to the doctor or to get meds, I'll at least put on powder and mascara. For some reason, mascara always makes me feel a little more human when I feel like crap.
I don't really do it for my husband, who has seen me at me absolute worst. I just feel like I look better with a little mascara! |

I do the mascara too...it makes me feel a little better and I am in the daily habit of "putting on my face".

If I'm staying home or just going to the Dr then no makeup. If I have to go to work, I'll do the minimum, like concealer and mascara. |

I'm with Manslayerliz. When you're sick, I say, let yourself be sick. If stuff makes you feel better, that's great (I like to shower, for example), but if the "pretty-ing up" is for anyone other than yourself, you shouldn't have to. I realized this when my grandmother fell and broke her hip (so obviously she went right to hospital and surgery) and afterward wouldn't let in *any* visitors (husband included) until the nurse had found her dentures and put some lipstick on her. That just made me a little sad to think that she thought we might not love her quite as much if she wasn't "put together." We were just happy she was still with us!
I love my beauty routine, but I also like that it's a choice...
(And I do hope you're feeling better!) |

I don't know your grandma as much as you did, but I don't think she felt that you wouldn't love her if she wasn't "put together". Some people...are just like that! hehe...I would NEVER let anyone see me without washing my face and maybe a bit of concealer, even if I was sick! |

I of course won't apply makeup if I'm home, sick or not. Well I guess I applied makeup is cuz I need to go out to the public and I feel quite uncomfortable for the public to see my bare face even though they probably don't care at all or notice...
I agreed with u ladies here that my bf should see me at my worst since this is someone that I'm gonna spend my life with... I mean if he can't put up with that look, then why be with someone like that?
Anyways, I'm feeling a bit better now but not fully recovered yet. Thanks all! |

Fair enough!
Glad you're feeling better, Stardustdy! |

When my great aunt was young, she never let her husband see her before she had her "face" on. She actually went so far as to get up in the morning before he got up just to put her makeup on and went to bed after he did so he would never see her without makeup. I think it's just a generational difference, but I do find it sad that she didn't feel comfortable enough around him to let him see her with a bare face. After more than 50 years of marriage, I don't think she has that problem anymore! |

Thanks for sharing Annie B! I think you're right that there is at least something of a generational gap there... I'm glad that she's gotten more comfortable and she's gotten older. I'm kind of hoping for the same thing. |

I never wear makeup when I'm at home. Unless we are having a company over. If I'm sick and going out only to see a dr - no make up either. If I have to go to work or somewhere public (other than dr), i'll likely do my regular MU routine - concealer, MMU, mascara, lip glaze, that's it.
P.S. I've been with my hubby for 20 years now (15 yrs. married) and he's seen me looking very yucky!! As a matter a fact, he's seen me very, very sick + he saw me deliver our daughter. I don't think there is much to hide at this point . |
