Hi everyone~
I'm curious to see if anyone else can feel their lymph nodes on their neck. About 6 months ago, I started to notice two little lymph nodes on both sides of my neck, so one on each side. And of course, I was monitoring them to see if they would go away or kind of feel them and what not. They are still pretty prominant, but fairly small.
I went to the ear/nose/throat doctor today, and he felt them and said that I don't have anything to worry about, but just to contact him if they get larger. He told me that women can feel their lymph nodes a lot better than men because we are smaller in frame....The doc said not to worry, but of course I worry because I worry obsessively about everything.
I just really wanted to see if anybody on this forum had ever experienced this and maybe someone else can chime in and tell me 'everything's going to be okay.' I'm glad I got it checked out today though instead of just ignoring a visit to the doctor.
Oh yes and mind you everyone, I have bad allergies, which could also be a cause of slightly swollen lymph nodes. But again, I'm just posting because I wanted some other people's advice. TIA |

I get that sometimes when I either have an infection or am just feeling under the weather.
If your doctor wasn't worried about it, then try not to worry about it yourself. As he said, just go back if they become more enlarged. |

My nodes swell up too when my allergies are bad and so do my son's. Right now he even has one in his armpit that is swollen which had me worried, but after goggling it, it also seems perfectly normal with allergies or infections. |

Ok, I will try not to worry myself. But continue to monitor. Thanks for your inputs! |

You're right to monitor them Sweetie, but don't obsess!!
Why not check them every week, instead of 5 times a day?
Everyone is right: allergies, sinus infections, ear infections, tonsillitis, colds, pimples, all can swell the lymph nodes - that's what lymph nodes do: scavenge for the waste products.
Have you tried warm compresses to the areas and gentle massage to "drain the lymph"? Not sure if the massage is a valid treatment, but some ppl swear by it. Drink plenty of water to flush toxins out generally. 8 glasses a day is standard advice.
Have your doctor keep an eye on them too. If they become painful, red, or drastically increase in size, or are right on the clavicle area (collarbone) I would have someone evaluate them again. Otherwise, just be healthy and happy! |

Hi gellys!
Fawnie gave you some excellent advice..
Take a look at this video on 'lymphatic massage' which I think is something that will also help you see how to drain your swollen lymph nodes.

Thanks everyone! Yes Fawnie, they are above the collar bone. The doctor told me that the lymph nodes that are slightly swollen have to do w/like sinus draining etc...
I will need to watch that youtube video. Thanks again Fawnie+Kassy+everybody else. |

Your welcome gellys!
Just an FYI for anybody doing lymphatic drainage. Always start by releasing the built up fluid in the nodes in front of each armpit.
Just cross your arms in front of you, and firmly press your fingers in in the front of each armpit. The next best thing is to release the fluid in front and back of the ears, and follow the path, down your neck, across your clavicle and finally to the armpit area.. Then proceed after that from the forehead down... I've been doing it like this, and it is very effective. Dare I say, I'm even seeing improvement in my "dreaded bags"...
Have I thoroughly confused ya'll??? |

Yep, try lymphatic massage, dry brushing, rebounding/jumping on a trampoline, and massaging neurolympatic reflex points to help your lymph along as it doesn't have a pump (versus blood which has the heart as a pump) but relies on movement.
Here's Donna Eden giving a demo of massaging neurolymphatic reflex points (part of Donna Eden Energy Medicine and Touch for Health):

my lymph nodes at the base of the jaw are chronically swollen, sometimes slightly and i go through periods of tonsilitis but no cold symptoms and they go down on their own.
it has a lot to do with drainage, as most modern doctors do not acknowledge that it is abnormal to have chronically inflammed or enlarged nodes.
also there could be some underlying allergies and you might need to consider eliminating certain things from the diet etc. |

I was concerned about my swollen lymph nodes. I asked the nurse and she said to only be concerned if they're hard. She said it could just be allergies if they're swollen and fluid, or something.. |

Well, swollen lymph nodes are a sign that your nodes are working hard on something. Nodes filter the toxins in lymph. You can help move your lymph by doing the suggestions I posted previously. |

I have noticed that my lymph nodes are enlarged a year ago. I went to see the doctor and he told me that it's from stress.
Recently I have been diagnosed with skin cancer and had it removed, hopefully all of it. The doctor has sent me to have an ultra sound done on my neck just in case because apparently skin cancer cells often spread to your lymph nodes so I am freaking out and can understand why you're freaking out too.
But if the doctor has told you not to worry about it, just keep an eye on it and maybe you can ask the doctor to have an ultra sound done and monitor it that way. At least you will have some physical evidence of their size then.
For me I think I have to go for a check up every three months from now on for the next few years. I am only 24 so it's quite scary to go through that but that's life I guess .
Hope it all works out well for you.
Since you are saying that you freak out about everything, your enlarged lymph nodes might be due to stress as well. But just to be safe I'd get it tested further. |

I know this is an old post, but - in January of this year I got a pretty bad ear infection, and three lymph nodes on the right side - one just under my ear, one at the base of my jaw, and one more in the back of the neck - were very swollen. It took 2 rounds of antibiotics to knock it out, and the node in the back of the neck has never gone completely back down.
I was concerned about it, but I did read that sometimes lymph nodes can be *slightly* swollen, and as someone here mentioned, it just means it's working on something. I think it's only cause for concern if it gets considerably swollen and tender. I read this on the 'net, of course, so take it with a pinch of salt, but it made sense to me.
Ceca01, I'm SO sorry to hear of your experience with skin cancer - hopefully, if they've caught it early, and if you're young and otherwise healthy, you'll be able to beat this thing into the ground. Sending healing thoughts your way! |

Thank you for your thoughts. I am 24 so hopefully I will be able to get through it. I guess I just have to see.
I am taking some chinese herbs at the moment for rebalance my body and am looking at starting yoga once my arm heals from the surgery so hopefully that will help a little too. |

I suddenly noticed a hard pea-sized lump at the base of my skull (half-way betwen top of spine and my ear) about 13 years ago and asked a doctor.
He asked me if I had been sick recently and in fact a month or two before I had been extremely ill with a bad flu. He said that sometimes when you have been sick and had high temperatures the swollen nodes just dont go down.
13 years later and my little pea is still firmly in place. same size too.
Your doc would know if it was a node that needs checking up on! |
