Well, since this is a "new" product to EDS, I thought I'd give my review on the product.
I have been using Jane Iredale's loose mineral foundation since 2000. I was initially drawn to the mineral foundations due to non-drying, non-clogging, and natural SPF. I also liked the fact that it was "all natural" and I didn't have to worry about FD&C colors --- some of which caused me to have hives and irritation to my skin.
Initially, I found the application of the minerals to be difficult --- if I applied too much at once, my skin would look "chalky". But, once I realized exactly how to apply them, I found the foundation made my skin look flawless. I typically use a concealer brush to cover any flaws on my face. Then, I use a powder brush to lightly apply the minerals to the rest of my face.
I have tried other mineral foundations, and found some were too shiny (made my skin look greasy), and others were too drying. I found Jane Iredale's to be of excellent quality and value, and have everyone at work fooled to think I have "perfect" skin. What more could a girl ask for??
FYI: I have also tried the pressed version and found it to be 1/2 shade lighter than the loose. I also found it to be more "matte" and it didn't seem to last a full day on my skin (like the loose does). |

I may have missed some good feedback on the Jane Iredale loose powder, but I want to try this line and had a few questions. One is: how exactly does the loose power foundation work? I have only ever used liquid foundation, and am mystified about how a powder can give me the same coverage. Does it? Which do people like better - the powder or the liquid? |

Zazu,
Well, I have not personally tried the liquid mineral foundation by Jane Iredale due to the color not being light enough. I have heard great things about it, however!
As far as the loose minerals go: I typically apply it to any problem areas with a concealer brush. Then I take a big, fluffy brush and apply a very small amount of the mineral powder to it and fluff it over my face. This gives me a perfect finish --- makes my skin glow and doesn't appear like makeup.
I know the Handi brush is one people typically like when applying the mineral foundations. Some also like using a sponge. I have tried the sponge and didn't like the amount of minerals deposited on my skin --- made it look mask-like on me.
As for how they work: I think it has to do with the consisitency of the powder. Since it is ground up minerals, the powder does give a nice glow and diffuses light away from problem areas. Also, the powder is very dense -- a little goes a long way. I have been using the same jar since 2000 and still have about 1/4 left. As I mentioned before, I only use a very small amount daily.
The nice thing about the minerals is that it hides imperfections quite well. And, it lasts all day on my skin (dry/normal combo). I think people with oily skin may need to use a finishing powder on top or a "primer " beneath.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

Dagny,
If it helps you any with colour choices of the JI Liquid Minerals, I'm around a MAC NC15 (so, very pale) and Liquid Minerals in Bisque and Warm Silk work fine for me.

Zazu,
Yes powder foundation can actually give you a lot of coverage. You just need to build it up. That is quite easy to do since all you have to do is just keep buffing it on your face. Basically, while it is a powder, it is much more pigmented than a normal powder that you use to set your makeup. I'm terrible at giving explanations of how things work so hopefully someone else on the forum will jump in and explain it properly
I'm using, and liking, JI Liquid Minerals at the moment. But I have used powder mineral foundation in the past and I like it. Both the powder and the liquid are good and I think it's just a matter of personal preference, though there seems to be a better shade selection in powder foundations than in liquid ones.

Thanks, guys. Super helpful. I just submitted an order but am fast building a list for my next order - trying to hold out a little longer for other 'musts' that come up. |

Hello Zazu,
I'd like to remind you also that if you are going to spend money on the powder ones you have to invest some on good brushes as well. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

Mabsy,
I currently own the bisque in the loose and it is still too dark for me! MAC NC15 is also too dark ---- I am pale, pale, pale!
Tell me about the warm silk. Is it lighter than the bisque? My coloring is actually olive, so I typically pick the neutral colors.
Thanks!

WOW! And I thought *I* was pale!
Sorry to say Dagny but I think that the Warm Silk is actually slightly darker than the Bisque (at least in the Liquid Mineral range). So I think Bisque might actually be the lightest. I'm not sure how the powder and liquid shades compare though. They may not be exactly the same, in fact I am pretty sure that I read that somewhere.... It might have been on makeupalley.com.

Hey ya'll -
I won a $50 EDS gift cert last week and I'm thinking I'd like to try out the Jane Iredale liquid minerals foundation (thanks to all the raves!!) but I need help with picking the right shade. Currently I use BE foundation in Medium #3. Any ideas what that would "translate" to in the JI line? I know that the powder mineral formulations are more "forgiving" (i.e.: one shade truly will fit a multitude of women), but I suspect the JI liquid formula won't be the same and I don't want to screw up and buy the wrong color. Any suggestions? BTW, I'm a fair-skinned, green-eyed, redhead. When I first started using BE, I thought the "Fair" foundation would be best for me, but it was WAY too pink. I would have thought the "Medium" would be way too dark, but it turned out to be perfect for me. Go figure!
Anyway, any help would be appreciated!
thanks,
Carrie |

Jane Iredale Warm Silk is definitely darker than Bisque as I have used both. Maybe Aromaleigh Abalaster(spelling?) would be even lighter than JI Bisque? Aromaleigh only comes in the loose form though. |

I can't really help Carrie as I'm usually the lightest shade in almost everything, but it might be worth looking on the foundation chart to see if there is any mapping between the BE and the JI shades you are considering. http://members.lycos.co.uk/chiaxx/foundation.html |

I've been using Jane I. loose powder foundation and sometimes the pressed powder foundation lately instead of BE. It seems that I don't get the same irridescent look with the JI that I got with BE. Could I be imagining that?
I have the spritzer from Jane, but I keep forgetting to use it. Does that make a big difference?
