I was in the salon the other day and a pamphlet on this caught my eye.
A few details as follows:
The origin of this healing science has been given as ancient Tibet, China, India, Egypt etc. Ear coning actually removes excess wax from the ear canal by sucking it into the ear cone due to its slight vacumn action created by the burning candle. THe healing smoke has been used for centuries to ease earaches, remove earwax, and fumigate possible fungal, yeast, and bacterial growths inside the ears.
Ear candling is still used today as a method of cleaning the ears and the mind, which is allegedly alleviates a host of physical ear ache, ear infections, blocked ears, sore throat, sinus problems, headaches, excess wax, vertigo, pressure from flying and diving.
Treatment is best suited for:
1) Persons who work outside
2) Persons working in a dusty environment
3) Persons with wax build up in the ear
4) Persons prone to allregic reactions and sinus infection
5) Persons participating in water activities
6) Persons who use audio phones regularly
* The herbal blend of ear candle is specially formulated to calm and relax. It has anti-inflammotory, antiseptic, antibiotic, and antibacterial properties. It is designed to oxygenate and strenghen the brain, fortifies the central nervous systems, clears the eyes and ears, improves the sense of taste and hearing and purifies the blood.

I have tried them a couple times. I work in an office all day! They are jut "ok". They get some stuff out, but nothing like getting your ears professionally cleaned, plus you can not do the ear candles yourself, so it is not convenient to have someone have to help you with it. |

I use them every 6 months or so, have done for years.
They are an excellent way of getting the wax out and are completely safe and non-invasive.
Definitely get someone to help you though because when you are lying down it is hard to see the candle... |

I read an article that said that the wax is from the candle, not the ear. |

I definitely have not found that to be so - it is a completely different colour, texture etc.
I am sure not all brands are created equal but I know the ones I use are doing the job. |

I have also done ear candling. I did it with a friend recently...what came out my ears (stuff that accumulates inside the hollow remains of the candle) was totally different from what came out of his...so I don't believe what you get is the remnants candle. It does work IMHO! |

I recently read that ear candling, Q tips, etc are actually dangerous for ears and hearing. Ear wax can become impacted (hope that is right word). Some ear wax is beneficial and ears should only be professionally cleaned if necessary. |

I can't say I did - infact that part puzzles me because surely you would have to do that very regularly in order to get those kind of results - IF you can get those results that is...sounds a bit far-fetched to me.
I did it purely to clean my ears and it did just that. |

I have a friend who did this. Her friend used a type of linen soaked in something... wax/oils???
Anyhow... she said she always felt her ears were rather clean... and then the stuff she saw come out of her own ears. She said it was revolting... AND she felt like she could hear in the back of her head.
Her girlfriend explained she would also do this for her son after he had a bout of illness... like an ear infection... and always... something gross...
I've wanted to do it... as I feel like my ears are kind of plugged... My sister and I tried a kit from whole foods (long time ago... no idea the brand)... was not impressed... So, IF this really works. I suspect you need quality candles.
Report back if you try it... I still feel compelled to have this done... |

My partner and I tried a set and personally I did not feel any benefit or see results. Once you remove the candle you will find that sometimes wax has dripped into the ear (blocking the heat vacuum anyway) or the "waxy" nasty looking buildup at the end of the candle is actually the wax itself - there have been scientific experiements to prove this but that is just common sense to see what is candle wax and ear wax. |

I read the same thing. Also, a friend of mine had this one. He was a skeptic but wanted to humor his sister-in-law who was doing this for her clients. (She actually charged him for it, too.) He also concluded all the wax came from the candle. |

My sister had it done at a salon once and said it removed alot of wax. I just bought a home kit a few weeks ago at a health food store but forgot about it. I'll try and do it this weekend and report back. |

I think ear candling is great. They really get out a lot of stuff. After you are finished you can cut it open and see all the wax. The first time you do it is kinda gross to see what comes out . If you want to do it yourself you can purchase it at GNC. |

My face was lightly slimmer/less puffy for about 1 day after ear candling. It definitely helped with bloating |
