I have been researching for hours and hours trying to choose a skin care line. There are so many, and so many contradictory rules about acids, exfoliating, etc MY HEAD IS SPINNING!! Emu oil? Jojoba? Clarisonic? Microfiber cloth?Obagi? UGloGirl? DDF? Skinceuticals? 302? Primer? No Primer? Neutrogena/Aveeno/Olay? MMU? Karin Herzog?
I'm 38,very fair-skinned, with oily, blackhead prone t-zone, but also flaky-skin-built-up t-zone; acne around jaw and on neck - actually they aren't white heads, just red bumps that look like a zit before it gets a white head; broken caps/rosacea; wrinkled, crepey, thin skin under my eyes.
I have spent so much money (that I have no business spending) trying out so many products. And the 3 different dermatologists I have gone to don't seem to have any help for me - just metrogel or finacea or cetaphil cleanser - none of which did anything.
I recently started using an AHA cleanser and toner (to refine pores and reduce blackheads), salicylic acid gel, a retinol product for under my eyes and crow's feet, vita-k for the broken caps, benzoyl peroxide from acnefree (very, very sparingly), and a twice weekly gentle peel from olay. But now I'm reading that the acids are not good, and that shoots a hole in most of my plan. Also I have to exfoliate daily (gently) or else I have this layer of dead flaky and oily skin sitting on top of my face. But then I read that exfoliating is not good.
IN SHORT: What cleanser line do you like and also what MMU or foundation for oily, sensitive skin like mine? What for the wrinkles/crepiness under my eyes?
Thank you for any advice you can give me. One day I hope to be able to give back by knowing enough to give advice to others. |

Your skin sounds very similar to mine, Linda.
I use Alima mineral makeup. I also use Tanda's red light therapy for wrinkles - I don't have any thanks to Tanda! (but avoid the cheeks if you have a tendency to rosacea). I have been using a microfiber cloth and I love it. I just have to remind myself not to press hard when I use it.
More recently, I'm experimenting with sea buckthorn after reading about its benefits. I use it in a soap and drink the oil. I also have to take at least 3000 IU of vitamin A (in the form of cod liver oil) or my acne returns.
Also, I'm using something with azelaic acid right now and waiting to see if it will remove the red spots. They seem like inflammation points that don't heal.
In terms of a cleanser, I sometimes will just use water and the microfiber cloth, but most often, I'll use La Roche Posay's "Rosaliac" gel cleanser.
Hope this helps! |
