So sorry folks but I'm kinda desperate for help/advice here...
I just used some Decleor skincare samples, the foaming cleanser and the essential balm to be exact.
However, after putting on the essential balm, bumps/swellings started to appear on my skin! The closest I can come close to describing them would be that they look like the kind of swellings mosquito bites give The swellings/bump also itch and are slightly red in color.
It has to be a reaction to the Decleor samples because once I washed it off my face the itching stopped. (i tried to bear with it for half an hour and then gave up as the itching & redness got worse) Thankfully the bumps/swellings are going down slowly too, after I put rosewater and aloe vera gel.
But I'm panicking now because I just ordered a whole range of Decleor products from EDS a few days back! (before I managed to get the samples *hits own head*) My order hasn't reached me and now I'm wondering if I should give Decleor another try! (because at least kind, lovely EDS offers the option of returning original/unopened products to them...)
I'm really scared and confused as to what is going on with my skin because I never got reactions before (apart from the SKII fiasco which I can blame on chemicals like hyaluronic acid). But now even Decleor, known for being natural in using plants and EOs, are giving me reactions?! I'm not on any supplements nor have I made any changes to lifestyle or diet at all
So please folks, has anyone gotten any such reactions before to products and do you guys think I should try Decleor again? If not, could anyone please offer another skincare line for me to try?
I've got the usual combi-skin; oiler t-zone prone to spots & open pores/blackheads with the lower cheek/jaw area being dry and prone to mild rough patches (but no flaking). As mentioned before, I never got any reaction to skincare products apart from SKII & now Decleor
(Am currently using Haba products with Vit. C, Squalane oil etc with no problems, but also no real results hence looking for new skincare line; have tried shiseido/arden/bodyshop/DHC w/o any reactions at all...)
Really appreciate any advice/suggestions at this point!! thanks so much!! |

It sounds like hives to me. If they're itchy and look like mosquito bites. You might be allergic to an ingredient. |

I think you should definitely return all of the Decleor products. If this is actually harming your skin, why try again? I don't see the reason to risk it. It's probably the esential oil that are irritating you. |

I agree with Nimue. You need to try samples of Decleor (and probably all other stuff as well) as you are probably reacting to the essential oils in the products. Decleor's products are based on essential oils, so if you have sensitive skin you have to try with care. Your skin may have changed type and now be sensitive or it might just be sensitive to particular essential oils. I would return those items unopened to EDS for a refund - unless you have a product in your order whose sample was okay for you.
Here are the ingredients of Decleor's Essential Balm:

Ingredients:
Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax , Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Neroli Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Dipteryx Odorata Seed Extract, Tocopherol, Coumarin, Farnesol, Geraniol, D-Limonene, Linalool |

Hi Samantha,
I'm just a newbie here - but just thought I'd chime in on top of the excellent advice the others have given you already...
Yes, sounds like hives. It's a transient condition that should clear up as soon as you stop using the products that started the reaction and your skin has a chance to calm down.
If you're still experiencing problems - you could always try a topical antihistamine (i.e. Benadryl cream) if the hives are still bothering you.
I'm pretty sure that EDS will allow you to return the unopened products with no problems - esp. since it's an allergy issue.
Essential oils can be wonderful things - but just remember, just because something is "natural" doesn't mean that your skin will like it. (Poison oak and poison ivy are "natural" and, trust me - my skin hates those with a passion!!)
As for gentle, more natural lines - have you thought of trying Jurlique or Dr. Hauschka? I've heard excellent things about those - but others may have different experiences... |

Agreed here! I can not use essential oils...does not matter which oil it is, my skin hates it and reacts exactly the same way yours does. Large red welts that are raised and itch. They take a couple days to reduce and the redness go away. I do get hives as well, but my skin's reaction to oils are not hives, I know what those are and they are WAY worse. |

Thanks so much, Sahmisme, Nimue, Lunarmm, Taobunny & Bergquis!
After reading your comments and googling up on hives (am horrified by the pictures I found - am also extremely thankful that I washed everything all off my face before the hives got worse *shudder*) I've decided that I will return the products to EDS (once they reach me that is...)
Sigh... I was so looking forward to Decleor before this Now to look for another skincare line
Taobunny, thanks for the suggestion! I'll check up on Jurlique & Dr. Hauschka reviews and ingredients.
Apart from these 2, could anyone suggest others? Thanks again! |
