Just received an email from a very dear friend who is a Reuters correspondent for the Middle East. He's back in Baghdad. He was there a couple of times before for rather lengthy stays and spent the last 4-5 months home in the UK. With everything that's going on there, he's not allowed out much this time but I'm still so worried so please send some really strong vibes for his safety his way. Thanks. |

My boyfriend's brother-in-law is in Baghdad. He used to be a military policeman but after early retirement has taken up work as a security guard. He was lured to working in Iraq because of the ridiculous amount of money he was offered. Personally, I feel he was extremely irresponsible to have made the decision as he has an 18 month old daughter to think about. He was earning a good salary in the UK and so didn't need to go out there. I'm sure his family would rather have him safe at home instead of having the extra £££'s in the bank.
I'm glad for your friend that they've told him not to put himself at risk by going outside too often. Here's to his safe return. |

I know, Toe, why anyone would choose to be there is beyond my comprehension. My friend, Alistair, has spent most of his career as a journalist in the Middle East so he's been in a lot of "hot" situations but somehow this one seems most frightening. Thanks much. N. |

I will be wishing for his safe return and I am sure everyone else on here will as well.
I agree with toe there are some things more important than money. |

My prayers are with all those in Iraq. Hope to see them home real soon. |
