I'm caving in. I want to buy a foundation. I'm really sick of having a terribly uneven skin tone...and my skin isn't that smooth either. (I'm currently seeing derms to talk about laser resurfacing)
I want to know what product you ladies use? I'm VERY prone to whiteheads, and I don't want heavy coverage...
Thanks for any rec's or advice you can give me. I'm desperate. |

| I have extremely sensitive skin also prone to whiteheads, and I use Prescriptives custom-blended foundation. It is extremely light and does not aggravate my sensitivity. The technicians blend the color exactly to your skin tone, and it looks very natural. They will write down the recipe, and have it available when you need a refill. It's somewhat expensive ($58USD), but it lasts a long time and works beautifully! Good luck! |

| Dalguy, are you like actually a guy? if so I would go for a tinted moisturiser, as I think men in foundation look a tad weird, unless it's done theatrically a la marilyn manson for example. I really think that most women are not that superficial when it comes to how a guy looks. Either way, make sure whatever you use matches your skintone |

Dalguy, while you're at the Prescriptives counter getting custom blend foundation, go ahead and get the custom powder because that stuff is awesome and i've used it for years. They can lighten or darken it for you as your skintone changes due to the seasons free of charge. They can also add oil absorbers in the summer, and moisturizer beads in the winter.
I don't use foundation - I sometimes use the Prescriptives level 3 traceless which reflects light giving you the appearance of even tone skin, but doesn't look like you're wearing foundation. It's the same idea as a tinted moisturizer. It's not good at covering flaws though - pimples, dark circles, etc. |

Sorry, tinted moisturizer to me is foundation, and I'm a guy anyway, so it's not like I'm .3% more manly because I wear tinted moisturizer instead of foundation LOL.
Now, I have to find a Px counter and I don't think there is one near me. I just want something sheer to light, so I can have something to hold me over until the derm gets his stuff together.
I don't have any really terrible skin issues. I tried Clarins Color Tint once, and aside from a bad match, I thought it was absolutely full coverage...
If I can't find Px, I'll just go into a department store and ask for tinted moisturizer.

I wasn't implying that men in make up is in some way unmasculine! Please don't get me wrong! I just meant that when I have seen men in foundation it can look odd. Tinted moisturiser is not the same as foundation as it is much, much sheerer. You can even mix foundation with moisturiser it get the coverage you want. Foundation really does tend to 'sit' on the skin whearas moisturiser sinks in more. If you do a search on foundations and how to apply, you will find that women spend years not only looking for the perfect foundation, but also take years getting the application right. This is an issue for men because it is unlikely that you have been experimenting with makeup since age 12 and men's skin texture is also (usually) different because of facial growth (trust me on this, foundation caked into beard follicles, is NOT a good look!) and generally rougher skin (which I would like to add I like  ) due to shaving etc
Can I suggest that you try a C serum, exfoliation and sunscreen? Improving the canvas immeasurably improves the paint that is put on it. That way, if you get it resurfaced you will be halfway there to great skin

Ok Dalguy - sorry - never mind about the powder, i didn't read your post thoroughly and wasn't thinking about the gender(some females put a male id in their internet logo for safety or avoid harrassment).
I think guapa's right really look into skincare to solve the root of the problem, but in the meantime a tinted moisturizer may help cover up. I figured something must already exist for the male skin? Take a look at this site http://www.commentwire.com/commwire_story.asp?commentwire_ID=5076
It's a brand called King of Shaves and has a range of tinted moisturizers.

I second to trying out the Prescriptives Traceless which is very light weight and really smooth out the uneven skin tone or any of the minor imperfections you have...
My skin is very sensitive and prone to all kinds of stuffs... and this product has been with me ever since it comes out... I use the Px Traceless for the summer sheer coverage and Px Virtual Skin during the winter for sheer to medium coverage... both of them are oil-free and has spf protection...
Hope that you'll be able to find a counter nearby... If not, you can also look into Trish McEvoy's Even Skin which is another weightless sheer coverage that I find very nice... The reason I didn't stay with it is because it's more $$... |

guapagirl; Don't worry I know what you mean
Trust me, I'm not happy about this...I don't really view many things as masculine or unmasculine, but I don't feel very stereotypically masculine right about now LOL :P
Fairlyfair; Actually, my skin is super clear, *thanks Accutane* The only thing wrong with it is texture and some minor acne scarring...For that I'm getting lasers, yay! No, I'm not Indian, Dal is short for Dalhousie, the university where I'm getting my bach of science at.
Moshimoshi; I do not have a Px counter near by, but I'm going to call Holt's and have a talk with someone about "Traceless" It seems to be a favorite. We don't have a Trish counter around here for sure. LOL Not much Actually. We have the usual suspects, EL, Lancome, Dior, etc. But, we do have a Chanel counter.

my vote is for Paula Dorf Perfect Glo (found in dpt. stores, or online on their site or Sephora). It's a medium coverage cream foundation. I prefer to apply it with clean fingers though as opposed to the brush it comes with. Also if you want to splurge, the best thing to set foundation with, minimizes pores, and keeps shine away is powder--I recommend any of Jurlique Silk dusts sold right here on EDS.  I think it's great that you're wearing foundation, I find it perfectly ok to *cheat* a little and make people think you were born with flawless poreless skin. Just don't ever fall asleep with makeup on, or that will be the end of that! |

| How about Chanel Voile Universel? It's classified as "sheer makeup" and really just evens out the skin tone with very minimal (if any!) coverage. Also, Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture SPF15 is a nice tinted moisturiser. Another good one that I'm really liking at the moment is the Tarte Smooth Operator foundation. They call it a foundation but to me it seems more like a tinted moisturiser than anything else. |
