Hi all!

I want to do a TCA peel; although quite not sure which product, brand, strenght and/or method would be most beneficial for me.

I have followed Scalawaggirl's "TCA journey" with much interest and I think the outcome of the Cross method she used was very successful; you look great, Scally!

I've been considering this TCA Cross method, however, I have so many large facial areas with numerous scars of various sizes that I feel it might be hard to get great results using this method, and it will probably take forever to do it.

I know Scally used a 20% TCA solution (from Platinum Skincare?) for spot treatment only.
Is this strength best suited for spot treatment only?
If I was going to do my whole face (since I have so many scattered scars) would I be better of with a 12% solution?

Which method should I use in your opinion? (doing the whole face or just spot treating)?

For my TCA, I am thinking of ordering products from Platinum Skincare; are these products good? Any others preferable as well?

I really need all tips, tricks and info I can get in order to make a wise descision on this. I do want to get rid of those nasty scars, but in a safe way. Last thing I need is more scarring and skin damage.... Wink

TIA Exclamation

/Heléne

Woman! Hi again. I'd recommend starting slowly with the TCA to see how it agrees with your skin. A perfect starting point, IMO, is to try out some samples of Julie at Perfect Complexion's products. The TCA Complex is mild even compared to 12.5% and the TCA Latte is milder than that. You can start out with those to see how your skin likes TCA. If you're comfortable, then move up to more powerful %s.

I personally am not comfortable going any higher than 20% for spot treating but then I also use it in conjunction w/Super Cop 2x so the two combined, pack a powerful punch. If you are addressing large areas, I think doing both full face as well as spot treatments is the way to go. You can do this:

Treat full face with one layer of 12.5%, then spot treat specific scars.

Don't try this, though, until you get used to using the peels and know exactly what your tolerance is. Always start out at 1 minute, use a timer, and then rinse. Monitor your skin during the next few days, do not use moisturizer and use warm/hot washcloth compresses. Later, you can do like me and apply TCA Latte the nights following your main peel - it helps push it along.

Scally;

Thank You!! You always provide great advise!

In your opinion, and based on your own experience; what's the main difference between Platinum products and Julie's products? If I understand correctly; you started out with Platinum products, but now you've switched to Julie's products?
Are they gentler to the skin, better value for money? I wish she'd share the ingredients list on her products, but hey, I can live without it if the products are good... Wink

You're welcome! I think Platinum's products are more for the serious peelers and Julie's are milder. I still use both, BTW! In fact, my last peel was first applying 4 layers of TCA Complex all over, rinsing and then applying 1 15% (diluted myself from 20%) straight TCA on my cheeks only. I frosted almost immediately and rinsed right away. Then, I applied manuka honey and left it on for about an hour. I also took arnica tablets before I started and more afterward. This helps keep the swelling down. The following two nights, I applied TCA Latte and started peeling on Saturday - I started on Wednesday late afternoon. Now, this is an advanced technique so please do not be tempted to do this until you are peel-comfortable. Smile

Helene,
I am in no way experienced like Scally. She's the TCA Diva but I did purchase TCA 12 percent from Platinum and have done several peels. I was a nervous wreck the first time and only left it on for a minute or so. Nothing happened - until like a week later when I started to peel. I've been wanting to try Julie's TCA Latte. Let us know what you do. I'd like another beginners opinion.

Hi Kimberly!

Was this your very first peel? What were your results after the peeling process finished? Can I ask what your skintype is?

Scally;

If I recall correctly, you use emu oil (post peel) to help with healing? And supercopx2?

Since you use Julie's products, I was wondering if you've also tried her "Post Peel Rapid Recovery Oil"? If so; did you like it?
http://perfectcomplexion.net/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=16

Are there any other oils that are beneficial for this? I have a bottle of Rosehip oil; could this be used insted of emu?

Do you start using the oil and supercopx2 immediately (on the same day) after you've done the peel, and in which order are they applied?

Sorry for so many questions.... Rolling Eyes Embarassed

Helene,
I'm a peel veteran, glycolic ones at the Dr.'s office though. I got tired of the price and after several years off realized my skin looks better when I do the occasional peel. I gave a friend three of the TCA's and just one to myself. I've been meaning to do another for myself but I've been pretty happy with my skin lately. My tendency is to be dry. I'm really wanting the TCA latte. Every other day I use a bha/aha from Ifeelprettyproducts.com.

Helene, I do use the Recovery Oil and love it. It's mostly calendula so very healing. I switch it between emu and sometimes mix them...just depends on my mood but I love them both. I also use rosehip but that is very rich so I wouldn't recommend it unless you have dry skin (definitely do a test spot).

When I spot treat, I use the TCA until I frost and then use SC2x that night up until they scab. I continue to use my regular CPs at night, as normal, also. Here's my thread outlining spot treatment using the TCA Cross:

http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?tid=17724

That should help. BTW, I do not apply emu or any other oil anywhere except on major peel areas (like the 15% on my cheeks, for example).

Scally,

Why not apply Emu oil full face? I was considering doing so after my rather mild 20% nightly Glycolix pads.

Hi, if you read where I said I don't use emu except on large sections of my skin, it is to encourage the spot treatments to peel quicker. I should clarify here, anyway, so it makes more sense. I do three different types of peels:

1) TCA Cross for spot treating. I do not use emu oil right away in order to encourage peeling but will go back to using it the 2nd night after the spot treatment.

2) TCA Complex/TCA Latte - daily peels on occasion or used in conjunction with #3. I don't use emu the first night, as above.

3) Major TCA peel at 15% for spot areas. I DEFINITELY use emu for this as it helps diminish the swelling and redness that can happen.

This is my own little routine I devised after spending quite a bit of time with peels so you should work with your's and what works best for your skin. Make more sense now?

I'll let you know, Kimberly!

I just received a package from Julie today. I'd ordered the TCA Complex and had included a note with my order about how I've never used TCA before. She include a full-size TCA Latte FREE (along with 3 other samples!) and told me to start with that first.

So I'm going to follow her advice and start with the Latte, maybe this weekend. I'll definitely report back on my results.

You may hear from me sooner rather than later, Helene!

I got home with my new goodies from Julie and I got so excited, I just couldn't wait for the weekend...so I just applied the TCA Latte tonight! What I'm hoping is, if I do peel, it won't start for 2-3 days and the worst of it will be over the weekend. So stay tuned, I'll keep you posted!

I would be equally impatient, I can never wait when receiving goodies either, it's far to exciting! Smile

[b]Any updates??????

Well...not so much to tell.

The good news is, the TCA Latte is really gentle! The bad news is, I'm not sure it's doing anything. I applied one layer last Wednesday. No stinging, no irritation, not much of anything. So I applied one layer again last Friday. No stinging, no irritation, just the tiniest amount of flaking. So I decided to go a little more agressive and did 2 layers on Sunday. Once again, tiniest amount of flaking only.

So for me, I think the Latte would be more of a booster for a stronger peel or a daily maintenance thing. I'm excited to try the TCA Complex, since I did ok with the Latte. I'm just trying to determine when to do it to minimize the disruption of the peeling...assuming I eventually have some. Laughing

Anyone else getting started with new stuff from Julie?

I just did the TCA Complex for the first time tonight. 1 min, then I washed it off. Now I have to be patient, which is not one of my virtues.
I also bought the Latte. To me, it really sounds like an everyday product. Or, I believe that Scally uses it in conjunction with her other peels.

I'll be very interested to hear how you do with the Complex, Yogi. Especially how long it takes before the peeling starts.

Is Complex a product you can choose to leave on if you want, or must it be rinsed off?

Hi Heléne

I have several large areas that I have treated with TCA peels. Using TCA has been a life saver. I had real dark acne scars that I had treated with ipl which gave me post inflammatory hyperpigmentatin. Using TCA has lightened my scars that they are now finally totally coverable with foundation.
I bought my TCA from platinum. I initially started with 12.5% but it was so weak for my strong skin that I saw no results so I bought the 30% and diluted it to do 15% multi layered peels (not for the novice). The best results have come from prepping my skin with retin-a, using arnica and manuka honey. My last peel went deep as it was multi layered and yes the results were so worth it but very risky so I don't reccommend until you have done a few peels. I was getting impatient, my scarred area was large and this was making me go nuts so I took the plunge to speed up the results.

I have spot treated with 30% but there is a lot of "ouch" factor in that so tread carefully and yes 30% or 20% is best left for spot treating only, this has really started to lighten up some of my real stubborn acne scars. Its amazing when I look back at my skin just three months ago.

I am see my maintenance phase on the horizon so being aggressive has helped me a lot.

I'm looking into TCA Latte but I think they may be too weak for large problem areas. Love to hear how you get on with Julie's products. Dips

Because I did the fastest time - 1 min - it's possible that nothing will happen and I'll need to use it longer. If there's no peeling in three days. As to washing it off, the instructions (like so many) are not really clear. It says "wash as you wish as it will not affect the treatment". So I guess that the active part is while you're swiping it on your face. But I did wash with water.

With the Latte, I'll use it after I've finished the first peel. Either daily, or when I do the next TCA Complex. My skin isn't sensitive, so I'm sure I'll have to pile it all on.

This is day three since using the complex. No peeling, so I'm going to do it again.
