Hi All--
I just started using the Obagi Blender mixed with Retin A, and I have noticed that my old acne scars are even DARKER now! They are not brown (as I have read can happen as a side-effect) but darker red.
Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happen in the first few weeks? Should I keep using the Obagi -- will the acne scars eventially bleach, or will they keep getting darker? I don't want to un-do the fading I've already gotten with Cellex-C. Everyone says Obagi is great but I can't find anyone who has had acne scars redden...
Any advice or personal experience with this is REALLY appreciated - thanks in advance-

Are you mixing Product Lines? I use the entire OBAGI line and Love it I don't use my blender and Retin A daily - only 2 -3 days a week, but use the clear, am & pm. |

Hi Minx,
I use Obagi too and have never had anything like that happen to me. If I were you I would contact the doctor who prescribed it and ask if it is normal. We all react differently to products and it is most likely fine just a different type of side effect.
Good luck |

The esthetician who recommended fading with hydroquinone said that sometimes, spots can appear darker at first but will get better. I have used Obagi Clear (without Retin A, just the Clear) for about 5 days now and my whole face is rather pink, including my acne scars. I was warned this would happen though so I'm not surprised. The smoothness, blackheads and other bumps have improved a bit though so I'm sure this is part of the process. I also use a plain olive oil bar cleanser and Cetaphil spf moisturizer (I am going to get the who Obagi line soon) and I'm pretty sure with so few products, that I am not having a cross product reaction. HTH, I've gotten some great assurances about this product here from other users and I'm sure they will offer some good advice and info too. Annette |

The dr said it would be alright to add the HQ to my current products (Betaplex by Cellex-C) and didn't mention any redness. The package insert does say that "mild redness is not a counter-indication." The newer acne scars look pretty red so I guess the "mild" is the subjective part.
Based on what the last post said (that her esth. said!) I think I will give it another week. I'm glad she warned you, Lolli!
Did anyone's acne scars ever get lighter after initially getting darker?? hum.......
THANKS!

Areas that I have never seen on my face have begun to appear as dark red blotches and those that I have had are darker than before. I've been on Obagi for 6 weeks and am sick of the peeling skin that is red and tender but I am continuing on...for how long I don't know. |

Hi Minx,
I'm not an Obagi expert by any means - but I'm currently on Nu Derm too (week 8 - I think). I've noticed that my face pretty much everywhere is redder - and some spots have gotten a bit darker red too. I think it is because the Nu Derm stimulates your skin - and, in stimulating it - causes increased circulation and skin remodeling. It could be that the tretinoin is causing some additional circulation/vascularity in the scar tissue. (Which would actually be a good thing, I think...)
Are you using Obagi Nu Derm Clear as well - or just the blender and Retin A? |

maggaroo we have all been there with obagi - things will get way worse before they get better. If this is your first time on obagi do the full 18 weeks. Just stick with it you will be please you did.
If you have time do an obagi search on the forum there are quiet a few threads on obagi and what to expect over the long haul. |
