I recently received the kit.
I ordered it based on the rating from all the knowledgeable members here at EDS and I 'm so glad i did.
I love the DVD that came with it because it explain all of their products besides this particular kit.
I was a bit afraid that having dryer and mature skin would probably not be compatible with so much powder but i was wrong.
I used a primer after my moisturizer (Skin purrfection from Cat Cosmetics) and then a light layer of cream foundation followed then by all the items in the kit and in the sequence shown in the video!
The result is so natural. I think because of the initial primer and foundation the powders do not settle in the lines.
Overall i would highly recommend this routine for people with mature skin.
Another Fantastic product from EDS!!!!!

Hi Trish, I have been using BE for years and wanted to know if someone bought the beyond the basics kit. I was at a party this weekend, and almost all of the women were talking about how they use mineral makeup and most are using BE. I think thats amazing, that MMU is taking over. Mostly because it feels great...and that means a lot.

You know,
i'm so impressed by it. I really thought it was going to settle in the lines like some powders do but it doesn't!
And the finish is just incredible!
I have to say though that i do use cream foundation before first so it evens out the color. I haven't bought a mineral foundation yet. I have asked for some samples to make sure i get the color right!
I might switch to this permanently. I am really picky with the foundations these day the only brands i use are Gerda Spillman, RCMA, Visiora and Laura Mercier.

I have the kit I think you're talking about (has the bisque and summer bisque concealers, glee, bare radiance, and faux tan plus two brushes) but mine had a booklet included instead of a DVD. The booklet is helpful but I think a DVD would be even more helpful. The kit I have is listed on EDS but it doesn't mention anything about a DVD there either. Are we talking about the same set? I would love to hunt down a DVD showing more detail in how to use these products.

Ok everyone, so I'm looking for a healthy natural product to switch to since Chanel and/or Mac are possibly causing irritation in my face. Do you recommend this kit for fair delicate skins?

I love the mineral makeup. It gives a light coverage. My skin does not feel piled up with makeup. The brush is very good. The mineral goes on my skin easily and even.

I think so. I'm not sure if my skin is "delicate," but I do have some allergies and several products break me out. BE is the only foundation and blush I can use without irritation these days. After using it a year, I tried a liquid foundation and powder blush, and . . . went back to BE pretty darn quick. My breakouts cleared immediately. I also think MMU covers surprisingly well--better than a lot of the liquid foundations I've tried (probably because it's a lot easier to layer!)

But, that's just me. I've heard some people don't like the bismuth in BE, but I haven't had any problems.

I have been using BE for a couple of years now and love it. I am a bit fickle when it comes to makeup as I don't use one line exclusively as there are some item in other lines that I like too i.e. Halo from Smashbox. Most of my makeup though is BE.

I don't know about sensitive skin but BE is great for fair skin. I had a hard time to find a light enough shade with other mineral makeups and BE looks very natural. I've using it for about2 yrs.

Just adding a little hint I have been using BE and a few other MMU brands for over 10 years
1 if you want a liquid mineral foundation alone or before buffing minerals in mix a tiny amount with any moisturizer you use and apply.
2 MMU is great for sensitive skin it is all the ingredients in regular foundation without the added oils waxes ect. It is reccomended by many surgeons for use after facial procedures instead of regular foundation.
3 if you still want a cream or pencil concealer first apply it then buff a little veil before applying your MMU
4 for those who find sensitivity to the Bismuth there is a brand called Aromaleigh that does not use it in their formulation, huge color selection and also have special one for more mature skin
5 application tip start with less than you think you need I think too much product is what causes most problems, add more it is easier than trying to remove overly applied minerals
6 use really great brushes!!!!
7 for a Dewey look spray a fine mist of water or facial spritz and let dry

My little lesson for now on MMU

I love the BE line and have been using it for 5 years now. I wouldn't even consider switching to another minearl makeup. I really like the multi-tasking minerals for around the eyes. I use Bisque and it is a great concealor beyond the foundation and mineral veil. I also started exploring the buxom line of lip color. It is a little thick but it stays on forever and doesn't get too sticky.

I love it as well, I mentioned Aromaleigh because some people are sensitive to the bismuth and this brand does not put it in and some more mature ladies seem to have problems with caking, product sinking into lines making them more pronounced they make a formula especially to target those issues. For myself I at 55 have not had any issues using BE, but I like Aromaleigh as well they also have a great range of eyeshadows that I can't find with BE, some colors that work well on me. Neutrals make me look like I died and don't have the sense to lay down. One last note Aromaleigh also sells pure pigment which is fabulous for mixing your own colors. I use both and adore both!

Hi DM,

I also love and have been using BE for many years, but I'm always open to trying something new as well. With Aromaleigh, which foundation is closest to the original BE? Voile or Glissade. I don't have dry skin, but it is sensitive.

Thanks!!

Voile is the regular formula, the Glissade is the one targeting mature skin, the site also has a "chart" of color comparison to BE. They will also sell sample sizes so you can decide what you like or not.
Their CS is fantastic and with my full orders they always throw in a few samples to try products.

Thanks a bunch Rona. I completely missed that chart. It's very helpful.

You are quite welcome Songbird!
I think it is really helpful for purchasing online especially! The sample deal is fantastic too since there is nothing like in hand to see and feel.

You are quite welcome Songbird! I miss things on web sites all the time, some are just designed horribly. The samples are a fantastic way to check it out something about seeing it up close and personal is really great for knowing the one you pick is "the one".

I just got the kit and I must say I'm really impressed by how the powder comes off as so creamy. I have dry skin and I thought the powder will cake up but its really more like a cream than powder.

Really impressed.

Hello Funky,
I feels creamy because it is not actually a powder just "micronized minerals" foundation minus wax oil and all the other junk that congests skin and clogs pores. I think it feels like velvet but not dry!
I can never go back to liquid or cream foundation again. I love the staying power where I live it is hot humid and rains a lot, this stays put and looks just as good at night when I take it off as when I first put it on!

I like it for day time usage. But I think for night time, I will want to go back to liquid foundation and use the mineral veil on top.

Quick questions, I read that using mineral make up will help improve your skin over time. Is that true or is that just one baseless claim?

Because I dont see people marketing too much about that.

I'm glad I got the kit. Think I'll go get the full size ones soon

I think it is actually good for your skin in a few ways:

No oils (oils can be very good but most foundations contain Mineral Oil not good)
no wax ect. They leave out all the gunk that clogs pores and congests skin. Some ingredients in regular foundation are irritants to people with acne rosacea and just sensitive skin. My theory is why would I want that junk on my skin all day, and my skin is really normal. MMU let's my skin breath.
For problem skin and sensitive it is a dream.
This is a biggie for me as I avoid them and have for years NO PETROCHEMICALS!

MMU is a natural sunscreen so it helps protect your skin and any photosensitive actives you use.

I got my daughter started on it at 25 she had a lot of stress going on and was breaking out, in less than a week bye bye breakouts.

I think there are many nice products in the MMU lines that you can use for an all out evening look.

Hi Dark moon,
hv u try this BE primer. It has 2 kind :
One that say it combat flaky dryness, fine lines, excess oil, and enlarged pores. The other one has a oil-contol name : is gd for Oily, sensitive and acne prone skin.

I do not know which to choose as i hv sensitive skin but also wish to combat enlarged pore and fine lines.

Any suggestion? tks

I bought the kits too. One was at Costco and the other I got off QVC.
I love it, and will wear nothing else. Both my kits came with a DVD.
I REALLY like the bisque for under the eyes! Takes ten years off your appearance, instantly!

What I also like about the eye kit is the powdered eyeliners---Regular eyeliner is too harsh looking for me, and I really do not like that look where it appears you just took a pencil and went around your eyes...you notice the pencil or liner more than you do the eyes.
Their eyeliner does not have that look.

I also like the face kit..my complexion is a weird pink color, and frankly, I look better with a tan, but am not gonna do it...get a tan I mean.
Their makeup gets rid of that icky pink color for me, but its natural looking.

I use monistat chafing relief powder gel for my primer. Its the same as Smashbox, but cheaper.

By the way, when I ordered off QVC, a questionaire came up, and since I answered it they let me have a bunch of magazine subscriptions for only $2 each a year! Even Time, which is weekly! I don't know if they still do that...but if it does, go ahead and order, its not a trick! I love to read girlie magazines, and $2 a year, can't beat that!

It was 2 years ago I did that, so maybe its not there anymore, the magazine bonus. The makeup lasts a really long time, I still don't need more. I like that you don't have to worry about it getting old.

I love too how mineral makeup is taking over. It was so time for a foundation overhaul. I like BE's glimmers, blushes but for foundation I love Earthen Glow Minerals Cover Me. The coverage and options are excellent, so far the best I've used. They also make a great liquid foundation. My second favorite foundation would be a tie between Monave and another that's no longer around- Mineral boutique.

I used a mineral makeup and it worked for awhile then all of a sudden I broke out. I have very sensitive skin, when I used the base with sunscreen it made my face break out more. Do you have any suggestions?
