I have tried a number of otc retinol products but this is the best I have used as it absorbs quite fast, does not cause me any breakouts, I have had no irritation and after application there is no wait time.
My skin is quite resilient so those with sensitive skin probably should try the 0.4% first as the product does feel like it is quite effective.
The consistency is a very light cream so a small amount spreads easily. I have used this product for 5 weeks which is too soon for dramatic results but it does seem to have evened out my skin tone which I am very happy with.
I will certainly continue to use this product and probably alternate with 6 weeks of retinol, 6 weeks of a poly hydroxy and then 6 weeks without as per the Yarosh book just to see the effects.
Ingredients:
Water, Isododecane, Glycerin, Tridecyl Stearate, Ceteraryl Alcohol, Glycerl Stearate, Citrate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Stearic Acid, PPG-12/SMDI Copolymer, Polysorbate 20, Retinol, BHA, Butylene Glycol, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Capryl Glycol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Disodium EDTA, Ergothioneine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Evodia Rutaecarpa Fruit Extract, Hexylene Glycol, Laureth-7, Lecthin, Limonin, Phenoxyethanol, Polyacrylamide, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum |

Thanks for the review, Bushy. Which poly hydroxy product are you intending to alternate your six weeks of retinol use with? |

bushy, so you are using a product w/ retinol~ on another post someone was saying that it causes clogged pores? Have you had any clogged pores issues? I have Tazorac, but I do not want to use something that strong, I would rather use a moisturizer w/ retinol in it to even out my skin and try to get rid of a very small hyper-pigmentation problem in one area. What else can you tell me about the product you are using>? |

I decided to use the recommendation from the book as polyhydroxy is gentler than glycolic and I don't usually use a glycolic product. I am using the Exuviance Rejuvenating Complex. I finished the 6 weeks of the Remergent retinol and have already started the polyhydroxy. Certainly have not had any problems or irritation. The next time around I will use one of the recommended glycolic products as my skin seems to be accepting this routine very well. |

The Remergent retinol has not clogged my pores and a few other retinol products that I have tried have clogged them. This product absorbs quickly with no irritation at all and I really think it does even skin tone. |

bushy - There's no waiting time at all? So you can apply moisturiser virtually straight afterwards? I was already pretty interested in this, but will be even more so if this is the case.
BTW So far, I'm really liking the Remergent SPF 30 - which I ordered recently on your rec. |

Hi majorb! Do you prefer the Remergent SPF30 or the Clarins SPF40? I've used (and liked) the Clarins one before but haven't tried either of the Remergent sunscreens yet. |

I just purchased this after reading the Yarosh book. Which, I am so glad you brought to our attention. I'm going to try thesame program as the book suggests. Surprisingly, even though I have sensitive skin, I'm tolerating the 1% very well. |

There is no waiting time and I personally believe it works well. |

Bushy, how do you find the Remergent A compares to Viterol A (sp?), Osmosis Renew or PSF's Retinol? |

Too soon to really compare but I do think it evens out skin tone. PSF causes me to break out and has a wait time. I still like Viterol A as it can be used pretty much with any other product including other otc retinol products. I am still on the fence with Renew. Having found out that retinol thins the skin I am now following the 6 weeks of retinol, 6 weeks of bha then 6 weeks of neither. As I am getting older, thin skin is one thing I don't want to push to the limit. |

Hi heima, I just got a message from bethany, a very nice lady, and she provided me some information of retinol. I can share it with you, and hope it will be helpful to you:
"Vitamin A is required for cellular rejuventation...it comes in retinoic acid forms (like Retin A), or weaker Retinol formulations that are then converted to retinoic acid within your cells.
Vit A helps produce new skin cells, which then help remove wrinkles, brown spots, etc.
Every skin care routine should have Vit A, Vit C, and Vit E. " |

Although I won't say Clarins is a bad skincare line, I won't say it's a good one either. From my personal experience, it did nothing to me. |

Sorry about the delay in replying, fifi. I've been away for a week.
Actually, I stopped using the Remergent after a few days as I developed a few spots. It may not have been the culprit - they could have been hormonal, time of the month blemishes. However, as I was due to attend a wedding last weekend, I didn't want to take the chance.
When I was using it, the Remergent was definitely thicker and harder to rub in than the Clarins, but the white residue did vanish completely after a very short while. It did give a slightly shinier effect than the Clarins, but nothing that a little powder didn't solve.
I'll try it again once I have the other wedding I'll be attending out of the way, as I did like it. If it is the spot-causing culprit, then I shall be very disappointed. |

Thanks majorb - I hope it turns out to be something else so you can keep using the Remergent! |

I am not sure I can compare these two products because the Remergent Retinol is a treatment product whereas the DS Labs Viterol is a daily usage product. Viterol can be used all the time, even with a retinol product. According to the Yarosh book, it is best to use a retinol product for approximately 6 weeks then have a break from it. |

Yes, Tiffany, that's the book. I just bought it a week or so ago at Books-a-Million, and I hadn't even seen the recommendations here. I like the book a lot. It's a wealth of usable information.
Like you, I would love to know what other books folks here trust and recommend. Maybe there's a thread, but I haven't located it yet. |
