Hi,
I know this topic has most likely been beaten to death but I would really like to try mineral makeup. When I searched this forum for prior discussions I was quite honestly overwhelmed with responses.
I am 38yrs old and have suffered from acne and tend to have oily skin. After using Obagi my acne problem seems to be gone but I will never have a flawless complexion.
I have no idea which mineral makeup to try but would like one that will give good coverage and not look shiny.
Any help or suggestions as to which one to try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Sherri!
I've just started using bare escentuals, and it really gives a 'no make-up' look but is buildable. I really like it, but make sure you get the right shade...mine is waaaay too dark, though it looked about right from the picture. It isn't shiney either, (which I think is a shame....must get some instant radiance!). So that may be the way too go???

Thanks Liz it looks like picking a shade would be my next major dilemma of the day lol.... Do you have oily skin to begin with and does it provide good coverage even though it has a no makeup look?
Thanks sherri |

No, my skin is dry to normal. I have to say that it feels a lot dryer lately, so it could be the BE, though I think that it's the alphaderma that's the culprit...I think my skin misses the HA in the relaxaline that I was using before! I think the coverage is pretty good...I looked like I was tanned even though I'm really pale and no one thought (nor did it look like) it was make up. Mini me thought I'd had a bad experience with self tan! |

I checked it out and am truly overwhelemed with how to even begin with mineral makeup. Guess I had best stick to the same foundation I have been using for twenty yrs lol.

Earlier in the summer I purchased Jane Iredale pressed mineral powder base in Natural. I have recently picked up Bisque (as I get really fair in winter). I have found the product easy to apply with the line's Handy brush but think that any good quality natural bristle brush would be fine. The product is completely controllable and can be blended out to be very sheer or can be built to desired coverage. If you want a more satin/natural finish, you can spritz with their antioxidant hydration spray - or even plain old H20 - after applying the minerals. I am a foundation junkie but lately I keep reaching for these because they are very quick and give great results. The other nice thing about these minerals is that they do not irritate my very sensitive skin, and don't inflame any problem areas that sometimes crop up. |

I have been using BE products for nearly four years and I'll never go back to "traditional" foundations. I, too, have super oily skin and I recently learned the trick to keeping my BE foundation looking great all day long without constantly having to worry about blotting my face every two hours (which I've always had to do, regardless of the brand of makeup I used ). Here's the secret: Milk of Magnesia. Seriously!! You can get it at any drug or grocery store (in the laxative aisle), but be sure to buy the unflavored kind, because the flavors could cause irritation. Use the MoM twice a week as a mask to dry excess oil (wash your face with your regular cleanser, then slather on a layer MoM and wait until it dries -- typically 10-15 minutes -- then rinse it off with cold water). Then, I also apply a very thin layer of MoM before putting on my makeup to act as a mattifier (moisturize your face as normal, wait about 10 minutes, then spread a THIN layer of MoM and wait for it to dry, then put on your regular makeup). Normally, I have to start blotting the oil/shine from my face by 9am, but since I started using the MoM, I don't have to blot even once throughout the day. So, that's my advice for all of you "blessed" (read: cursed!!) with oily skin. I know it's not very "glamourous," but often the best solutions are the simplest. Actually, this MoM trick can be used for anyone with oily skin, regardless of the brand of makeup you use and I guarantee if you try this trick you will be a believer! |

I've been using BE for the past few months. Feels natural and has great coverage. I find it nicer than traditional makeup |

I'm 38 and been using Bare Escentuals for about 3 months now. I love the fact that it looks flawless, doesnt shine and has a barely there feel to it.
My face used to feel dirty at the of a day with normal foundation but now it doesnt. Also I have oily skin which is prone to breakouts, but since using BE havent had a one! |

Hope you like the Jane Iredale powder. My mom uses it and she loves it. The first time she wore it she couldn't stop raving about how it looked so natural on her (I told her about it beforehand but she didn't believe me until she saw it with her own eyes, lol).
If you don't want to drive the 5 hours (is that one way??), you can order from this site. I recently ordered a pressed and loose base from them and the package arrived two days later (ordered on monday, arrived on wednesday), but I live in Vancouver, so your delivery time may be a bit longer being that you're all the way in NB! |

Hi,
Yes it is 5 hours each way but it is also in New Hampshire which has the most amazing outlet stores hehe.
Hubby and I both work way too hard so we can really use a long weekend away and this excuse is as good as any.
I can't wait to try mineral makeup since having heard so many great things about it.
Thanks

Hi,
I just found this forum and know my reply is LATE LATE LATE but I wanted to tell everyone about the greatest mineral make-up ever: Colorescience. I've used Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals and the colors were never quite right. I found Colorescience at a spa by accident and WHOA. When I first put it on, it kind of sat there and after about a minute I looked in the mirror again and it had morphed into a sort of second skin that made my face look flawless!
I went to London this summer and we took my niece for her graduation gift. She has spots of acne and her make-up didn't help it much. I had her try the Colorscience and she almost cried when she saw how gorgeous it made her skin look. We brushed the stuff all over her face, then used a tiny brush to hand-spot the acne marks. You could not tell this girl had a problem with her skin at all.
You can do a web search to find them (they are located in Dana Point California). I think you can order from their website but they also list all the places that sell their stuff. They have a wide range of colors and use yellow-ish undertones (like Bobbi Brown's make-up) so it really really blocks ruddiness, blemishes, etc., yet isn't YELLOW.
It is a all-in-one brush dispense (kinda cool) and sells for around $55. You can buy refills for around $35. I won't be without this stuff! |

I'm going to be another advocate for the Jane Iredale pressed powder.
Man, that stuff is like gold to me. I'm serious. I'm only 21, but have a ton of discoloration, old acne scars, etc. This stuff makes my skin look flawless and everbody thinks I have perfect skin. Nobody knows I even have the makeup on. I can't imagine putting liquid goop on again. The thought of it makes me cringe.
I really hope JI never goes out of business. If she does I will drop at least a couple of grand to stock up. I told you...it really is like gold to me.
So, Sherriincanada, how'd your weekend in New Hampshire go? Did you like the makeup!?
