I've been using Retin-A for roughly 2 years now. I started with the cream 0.025% version and switched over to the 0.1% gel version on the second year. Anyways, I had pretty rough, large pores on forehead and around the cheeks when I started with the cream, however, at 1 year mark my skin was uber smooth and after switching to 0.1% gel and staying on that for 1 more year, the large forehead pores and cheek pores were GONE; no more oiliness throughout the day or visible pores. I used Vitamin C 20% and sunscreen in conjunction too and for the past 3 months been using Metazene Niacimaide 5% gel at night with the Retin-A. |

Ihave used RA for a few years now. I had large pores on my forehead and nose which are much more refined now from the RA. Nothing else has worked so well. I LOVE it! |

I have used it for close to two years. I didn't notice a change in my pores until I started using the Clarisonic for cleansing - that's what did it for me. I use .1 Retin-A micro and have had no problems with irritation or peeling. |

I started using Retin-A gel .025% at the beginning of the year. The initial breakout has MOSTLY subsided. I have 2 pimples on my jawline now. I noticed for the first time yesterday that my pores are smaller already! My forehead is beginning to look more flat, I don't know exactly how to describe it but--- you know how the skin is a bit plump between pores? Well it isn't puffed out and has become flat (like if you took an area of pores and stretched the skin). Bad description. Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to convey. Also my cheeks near my nose and eye, pore size is smaller.
I can't wait to see how my skin will be at the one year mark!
I'm sure those of you that have been using it for a year have awesome complexions! |

I have been using it for about 3 years on and off. I have never had really big pores but now they are miniscule. If anything it should help decrease pore size.
Hellenzqq, have you recently changed your routine or switched products? How long have you been using tretinoin and what percent are you using?
maheen1, Vitamin c (L-ascorbic acid) can help produce collagen synthesis, it has skin lightening properties and provides protection from ultraviolet rays, and it can really diminish signs of sun damage. There are two things I personally would never take out of my skin care routine and that is Retin A and Vitamin c! |

Yep I'm a long term user, since about 1987. No regrets here. |

It is usually recommended to use your vitamins/antioxidants in the morning and then your Retin A in the evenings. I currently use Skin Ceuticals but just before I run out I am going to go to the DIY section and find a recipe for CE Ferulic and make it myself. I like the CE Ferulic because it is supposed to give your skin a natural sun defense equal to a spf8. I need major spf to keep my melasma from getting darker so I take it in everything I can!!
I don't believe there is any harm in applying C twice a day, I always have. If you do that then first use your tretinoin or Retin A and wait at least 30 minutes before applying anything else.
If you only want to use it in the morning then you need to determine its consistency compared to your other topicals. Lightest/watery-est(Not a real word, I know!)goes on first. In my order of products my C always goes on first. Also, unless you are using a toner that brings your skin back to normal ph it is best to wait 20-30 minutes after washing for your skin to naturally ph balance, that way your topicals will work better as they are able to penetrate. HTH
LightenNLift...You mentioned using Metazene Niacimaide 5% gel at night with the Retin-A.
This is used for pigmentation, right? And helping to reduce the irritation from the Retin A? Are you finding that it does work? I'd like to possibly incorporate this into my routine, do you mix it with the Retin A and then apply or put it on after? Thanks!! |

I've been using Retin-A and/or Renova for 8 years now. My pores are much smaller and refined looking since I started using retinoids. I also never get blackheads anymore. Tretinoin products keep my pores clean, small and tight. |

I share this RA birthday with you Marie
No larger pores!!! The one product that did dramatically increase the size though, was Copper Peptides |

I think the Vit C Serum experts would disagree with the twice a day recommendation.(Correct me if I'm wrong here!) I've never read this before on this forum. What I have read is just what Moxie Mama said...Apply C serum in the AM and retinol at night....(but nothing abut reapplying the C during the day.) |

Without going back to old threads: C remains in the skin cells and does not need to be reapplied during the day. Once in the morning should do it. Always apply on a dry face and I use a Ph balanced cleanser (leaning more toward acidic than alkaline) so I dont have a long wait time after washing.
I used the C & E Skinceuticals product for a long time and I recommend it. To save money I now opt for a DIY C & E ferulic recipe and I"m just as happy and spending less. |

SisterSweets, you are right it does stay in the skin for the day. I have forgotten how long it takes to start really breaking down, for some reason many years ago when I started using it I felt it was best to use twice a day. I think it had to do with my melasma and thinking that I should be absolutely positive that I always had that UV protection in my skin at its strongest all the time which was why I included it in my evening routine as well. I do know that it is not going to cause damage to healthy skin to apply it twice a day however there may be no benefit to more than once a day application either. I should have clarified my post a bit better on why I use it twice a day! |

I have been using R.A. for over a year and a half. I don't have fine lines, but my pores are not getting any smaller.
I wonder if the right cleanser would help? I am using Cetaphil. |

Maheen,
Since you're using Obagi, you would apply Vit C after toner and then proceed with your other products. |

Thank you all for the information on Tretinoin. Have any of you used it for acne scarring? |
