Okay, I have 4oz. of salicylic acid powder and have no idea what to do with it! I know to mix the percentage is basic math, what I don't know is the best solvent/other ingredients to use. I want to mix a 5% and 15% peel solution (preferably a liquid) anybody have any ideas? By the way, if I have missed this anywhere in any of the threads, so sorry, just direct me to the right place. TIA  |

Thanks, bciw, I had checked those out and hadn't found exactly what I was looking for, but I guess I'll take "Mary's Sal Acid Toner" and tweak it a bit. It calls for alcohol, does this have to be the pure grain kind or is plain ol rubbing alcohol okay? Sorry for being so ignorant on the subject, this DIY thing is new to me  |

Dont worry, we've all been there before DIY.
I'm going by my notes here so don't quote me; as it seems, most recipes dont clarify what type so i think it doesnt matter if it's either rubbing alcohol or isopropyl (?) or pure grain. You better find out for sure. |

I have actually checked a couple of sites that I know carry sal peels-Makeup artist's choice and Platinum skincare. MUAC uses SD alcohol, which is ethyl but PSC uses isopropyl in theirs.
I called several pharmacies and home health places today looking for SD alcohol and most of them had never heard of it. So I settled for a bottle of 75% ethyl. The ingredients in the MUAC peel (which I usually use) are  SD alcohol, PG, Sal acid and menthol crystals. Since I sub aloe leaf juice for PG in my C serum I am going to try...the ethyl, aloe leaf juice and sal acid (since I don't have any menthol crystals) The stronger percentage I am going to use aloe gel instead of the leaf juice so it will have a thicker consistency. Wish me luck all, I'll update the results as I get them made. |
