I don't know why but for some reason I felt compelled to use honey on my face the other week, I thought Hey, its natural, organic I'm sure it's great for my face in someway. I was experimenting, anyway getting to the point I used it as a face pack and it was amazing. Just regular honey, I looked up a bit about it and was stunned how good it can be for the skin. Here is a bit of info about it.
It has germ fighting properties, it helps to heal wounds and is a natural antiseptic.
It has helped to get rid of my acne scarring and my skin feels plumper, it is also a great natural anti ager, but then again what isn't these days?
"When honey comes into contact with body moisture, the glucose oxidase enzyme introduced to the honey by the bee slowly releases the antiseptic hydrogen peroxide at a sufficient level to be effective against bacteria but not tissue damaging. Not only is honey anti-bacterial, it also draws body fluids and nutrients to the area and so assists cell growth and prevents a scar forming by drying out of the wound."
"Honey may also be good for your skin. It has the ability to attract water. You can use honey instead of alpha hydroxy masks because of its high content of the acid. It is also safe for sensitive skin.
You can also use it as a moisturizing mask for your skin as well as your hair. To use it as a conditioner, mix the honey with olive oil. Be sure to wash your hair thoroughly before you go outside."
Hurrah for Honey! |

Thanks Hannah-Louise, great tip! I have been getting more into making up my own DIY masks recently. Used to make a great one as a teenager with oatmeal, honey and a little milk, messy but fun and effective!
Would like to try Manuka Honey in a mask also. |

Oh me too! Manuka honey sounds amazing, I've got to find out where I can buy it first. My mum gave me a sample of it a while ago. Loved it! |

Another tightening face mask is to mix honey and egg white. |

Just FYI, I too was all gung-ho about manuka honey, and I spotted it at my local Whole Foods the other day. I had no idea it was so readily available! |

Manuka honey is fantastic. I have the 5% version, but it is better to have a higher rate (10% or higher). So when I finish up the 5%, I will purchase the 10% |

I'm a big fan of Manuka honey also.
I like to make my own masks.
I get mine from Garden of Wisdom. I think it's 16+. You can try an ounce for $2.50.
The mask I make is
Manuka honey
SKB
Vitamin C ester serum
Aloe gel |

That sounds like a better deal than the jar from the nature shop (which is about 17 euro). I will include this in my next Garden order.
Thanks |

Debster,
Can you share the amounts you use for these ingredients? I have my kids (both with some acne problems) use just a straight manuka honey mask - which does help amazingly quickly - but this sounds even better.
Thanks,

I use equal amounts of the honey, SKB, and aloe gel and just a couple drops of the Vit. C ester serum. The Vit. C serum is very sticky also.
I buy the Vit. C ester serum from Ebay at around $10.
I leave the mask on for 20 - 30 min. HTH |

For the OP- how do you use honey as a mask? Seems like it would be awfully sticky and hard to remove?
Help! I'm willing to try anything. My face is getting so progressively worse I don't know whether I'm coming or going.

Doesn't the manuka interfere with the vitamine C (or the other way around)? |

Honey has significant natural antioxidants, which play a key role in protecting the skin from the damage and aiding in skin rejuvenation. My mom has told me about Honey for years, and now I am finally listening to her. |

I think I found another recipe for honey...as a hair preconditioning treatment:
http://www.prettybynature.com/honey-do/
she mixes honey with olive oil, which sounds intriguing. |

I've used honey on my hair, mixed with conditioner, for years. It gives the conditioner an added moisturizing boost, plus enhances natural curl.
I imagine it would be nice to use on your face too... |

The manuka honey has been showing up in several of my purchases of late...most recent...2 of the Red Flower shower gels. Positively wonderful!

This may sound like a silly question, but is honey OK for oily acne-prone skin? Call me naive, but I am paranoid to put any type of sugar on my face. Will this aggravate my acne?
How often should I use the Manuka honey mask?
What other added ingredients are useful for oily acne-prone skin (aloe, etc)?? |

Not a silly question since no one ever wants to aggravate or stimulate their acne. But I want to assure you it is not only OK, but it is great for acne prone skin. I have two teens, both with teenage hormonal acne and I put a honey mask on their faces every weekend. It is a natural anti-bacterial and moisturizer.
I've used it straight - a bit sticky and drippy but it works. More recently I've used it 50/50 with SKB and it goes on nicer - a thin layer that does not drip. I've skipped the vit C but that's only because I can't find my jar of it currently.
The Manuka Honey has the effect of calming the redness down quite a bit. And with my son, who kind of chronically picks at anything he can feel on his face, resulting in bitty scabs here and there, it softens those up and they wash away.
I would have them do it more frequently, but they are hard to pin down on weekdays with schedules, etc.

I was wondering if anyone tried to mix clay mask with honey instead of water...? I'm an oily skin gal, hence, I love clay mask.
From this thread I see honey could help me with acne scarring so I thought to incorporate the 2 ingredients into one mask. I guess I could always add a bit of honey to my mix of clay and water, but I just wanted to achieve a more potent mixture. Any thoughts on this??? |

This morning I made a facial mask of Manuka Honey ... and I got so many compliments on my skin today. It was glowingly radiant...shiny, but not oily (I only got oily near the end of the day). I can't wait to do it again. |

I usually mix my clay with ACV. Whenever I use water it clumps up quite a bit and not at all with the ACV. But, I have also added honey to the mix as well. I mix up the ACV plus clay to a pretty thick consistency, then add honey and aspirin.
