Hi everyone,
I read about this on the LaurEss forum. I have been reading up on it a bit and I thought it was important to pass this info on, as so many of us are fans of small companies.

As posted on LaurEss forum (I e-mailed Lauren and asked if I could post here and she said "yes, please!")

Dear Friends,
Help us stop the FDA from getting legislation passed that will make it impossible for small cottage industry cosmetic manufacturers to continue business. Please click on the following link and add your comment to the blog.
Indie Business Blog: Stop the FDA Globalization Act of 2008!!
Simply add your name and this comment; I oppose the FDA Globalization Act of 2008 at the bottom of the article to show your support.
Thank you,
Lauren Sheahan

I don't know what I would do without my small company products, and hate the idea of them closing or raising their prices.

I think people should read the proposed legislative changes and make up their own minds. It is designed to protect people from bogus products, products that don't meet minimum health safety standards and a lot more.

The legislature IS good. It catches the US up to other countries...

in terms of cosmetics it is trying to achieve, MANDATORY release of ingredients in a product, the acknowledgment of manufacturers of possible ill effects, and good manufacturing practices (don't buy crap from Asia cuz it's cheap, and if you do, test it for purity before you use it)

What I don't agree with though is charging the manufacturer big and small to do what the FDA should already be doing.

The laws in Canada are very similar, however they don't force the manufacturer to pay to be regulated, that's the job of the government.

You are right, it does catch the US and Canada (as we are in the process of changing our laws) to other (mostly European countries). One thing to be aware of, though, is that in Europe, supplements are 3-6 times more expensive than here. And in some countries, you can only get them on prescription. I think that regulations can definitely go too far.

I think some of this is good, but I do have an issue with the fee's. I think there should be a sliding scale for fee's. To a small company a min of $2,000 could really hurt them. If they decide to stay in business it be will passed along to consumer and that price increase may put them out of business.

Yeah I don't agree with that, it is the GOVERNMENT's responsibility to pay for these fees.

The blatantly state these fees are to cover the FDA's expenses in regulating these industries...so shouldn't THEY be paying them? guh!

Exactly! This is a good idea by the gov't, but it is a terrible execution. They need to stop trying to find an "easy, one size fits all" solution that will basically just make a barrier to entry into the market, and shut down many of our favorite brands that are already being safe and disclosing all ingredients.

I don't know if anyone has heard this but this will affect the food that we eat and the supplements that we take. There is a movement to ban vitamins in food and supplements. Our food will be genitically manipulated...I'm sorry but I do not think this is good...It takes away our freedom of choice.

skincarefreak, thanks for posting that info on the codex alimentarius. That youtube video is really informative. I'm not surprised to see that Dr.Rima Laibow has been a guest on the Alex Jones show. Alex Jones continues to uncover loads of info about the powers (bilderberg group, trilateral commission, illuminati) that are really in control. Have you seen his latest video, "THE OBAMA DECEPTION"? I'm a new member and can't post a link, but you should really check it out. It's shocking. I'm still a little "on the fence" trying to process all this info and sort out what is actually true, but the added bit about the codex alimentarius makes me believe that Alex Jones is probably not a nut. Dr. Rima Laibow seems highly credible.

I also believe that HDTV is being mandated at federal expense as an instrument of mass mind control (during these economic times, why would the government spend $8 billion just to give americans a better picture on their tv?). The gov will be using the same technology used during the gulf war that caused thousands of iraqi soldiers to surrender without a fight. It's not possible to change the channel, you just have to turn off your tv.

uh oh. Just read the post discouraging political discussions. Moderators, if my post above crosses the line then please feel free to delete the message. I wander into EDS sporadically and don't read all the posts. Sorry.
