Alright, I know you probably are wondering what the heck an E-Cig is. I was wondering this a while ago too when a good friend of mine showed me her battery operated cigarette....WHAT???

This thing has been amazing for me. All you smokers out there know exactly what I mean when I say it has been a struggle for me to quit over the last 6 months....1 week not smoking, a few days smoking.....5 days not smoking....oops! bought a pack and smoked like crazy.....2 weeks not smoking.....damn! Another pack and puff away... this has been my life for the last 6 months...
I have come to realize with this pattern that I hit a spot during my non-smoking times when I get this "super-pang" for a ciggie and that is what makes me break down. If I could just find a way to get past those times, I would be home free! Soooo, this is where this little wonder device comes in....the NJoy Electronic Cigarette. It is a cigarette sized 3 piece battery operated device that has a cartridge you replace that contains nicotine (the filter part), the rechargeable battery piece (the white part) and a metal atomizer that the filter fits over to actually blow smoke when you inhale. These contain nothing but nicotine and propylene glycol (the "smoke") which has been deemed safe for inhalation and has none of the other hundreds of harmful chemicals that ciggies do....Oh, and it doesn't smell at all AND the tip lights up too like a real cigarette!

You can get it in flavors such as vanilla, apple and strawberry or in normal varieties such as regular, light and ultra light...I do believe they have menthol as well? Also, you can get nicotine strengths too. My friend whom is in education at a university studied her rear off about this before purchasing and I trust her opinion on things.....

I figure it has to at least be better than actually smoking because I am not putting hundreds of harmful chemicals in to my body and it's not the nicotine that is bad for you...that's just the addictive part! Laughing

Anyway, just thought I would throw that out there for anyone who is trying to save the face and body by quitting and having a hard time doing it like I am.....this wonderful little thingy has gotten me past the "super-pang" humps and I know it's always there when I need to get through those times.

One of my sisters is having the same trouble quitting. This is a really cool contraption. I wish you the best in having it help you quit. Thanks so much for sharing as I'd never known anything like this existed!

Thanks for that link bren, as I had heard of these things and wondered what exactly they were.

Actually, how I heard about them was on the news when some shops here (Hong Kong) were recently "raided" and these e-cig things confiscated. Don't know on what grounds, could be just a licensing thing for all I know, or maybe selling to under 18s ?? Seems they are sold legally in the States so surely they must have passed some kind of FDA or other testing?

Hmm... I'm kind of interested, as I still smoke a bit (not every day, only when drinking).

I was looking at these - there is film on youtube about them which is very clear and informative. Sometimes I like to have a cigarette, with a coffee or a glass of wine when I am chatting with friends.. these seem far less anti social.. in fact they are supposedly legal, although I guess one would have to explain that to anyone who complained or threatened to boot one out of a venue for smoking.

I'm very tempted to try them.

I am glad I could post about it! It really is a pretty cool thing. I have always enjoyed the act of smoking...I know that sounds stupid, but I think it's what I missed most with trying to quit. I am so used to the hand to mouth thing and don't want to resort to food as a supplement.

This has really helped me along...it's not exactly the same as smoking an actual cigarette, but honestly it comes damn close. You can even "feel" it as you inhale like you do with real cigarettes.

These are not FDA approved so I have heard because it is not being sold as a quit smoking device, it's being sold as an electronic device. I do believe though they are trying to ban or better worded "regulate" these e-cigarettes most likely due to them having nicotine and wanting to tax these like real cigarettes or that you will need a prescription to get one. I think it's just the government wanting a piece of the pie so to speak.

But anyway, it has surely helped me with not wanting a real one and would really be a great replacement for those who want the occasional social ciggie without all the side effects. Oh, and the nice thing about this e-cig too, is that when my kids have me at my wits end (which is usually when I want a cig badly!! ha ha) I can smoke this in the house!!! ha ha....no smell, no harmful chemicals so I can retreat to my bedroom and puff away while my teens duke it out! Wink
