| Going backpacking in just over 2 weeks. I need to pack (very) lightly. What would you suggest I take? I'm getting into EDM so I was thinking about the bronzer and concealer as opposed to a foundation as my skin colour will change. A couple of lip glosses, a mascara, eyeliner, blush. What do you think? Any suggestions? |

Honestly, if you're going backpacking...I wouldn't take any makeup...just basics...like sunscreen, lip balm, cleanser, etc.
But that's just me. I don't think it's worth schlepping all that extra stuff when you've got to pack light. |

| I'd be taking mineral makeup and some blush. Nice and easy, can use one brush for both if you're squeezed for space, has SPF (though I'd use an additional sunblock anyway) and it's quick! |

I actually think it depends on the weather of the place(s) you are travelling to, and how similar it is to your current weather. If it is a lot more humid than what you are used to, that will require adjustments to skincare and makeup.
That said, lipbalm/lipgloss. Mascara if you can't live without, cleanser that can work as makeup remover (I like oils because that can also work as a moisturiser), and sunscreen. I would devote more to skincare than makeup  since perfect skin means no need for foundation! |

| I would say a bronzer does wonders for skin, even without concealer. Mascara or eyeliner to make eyes look brighter. Cream blush since you don't need a brush to apply it. And one or two lippies (a tinted balm would be good for daytime, and a nicely pigmented gloss for evening). |

Thanks for all those suggestions. ParisTroika - I see where you're coming from but there's no way I could survive 3 months without any makeup at all!
I think I'll stick with the mmu base, go for a cream blush (is it ok to use cream over mmu?), mascara, eyeliner and lipgloss.
As for the cleanser, I'm using OCM at the moment but don't want to take this with me. Any suggestions for a good cleanser to remove make up as well? I have oily skin that'll just get oilier in the sun, and prone to breakouts. Has anyone tried purity by philosophy? I think that's an all in one cleanser? |

| Make sure you have clean water supply to wash your face... if not the lesser makeup the better. |

I'd bring a good towlette makeup remover (Red Earth has a nice one), compact mineral makeup, retractable brush and fave lip product.

Now you see my dilema!
EDM is the best mmu I've tried but unfortunatley they don't do compacts  Any other ideas? Is there any good mmu I could buy out in Oz? |

If there was only one thing I'd take, I'll get my mascara!
Btw, the shiseido cleansing cream would do a good job to remove gentle makeup.

I just got back from a 2 month trip all over (S. America, SE Asia, India, etc.) so I understand the need to pack light, but also be able to feel like a non-schleppy backpacker sometimes.
My makeup kit was a Neutrogena powder compact w/ the less than ideal brush in it, one of the little neutrogena mineral sheers eyeshadow boxes--2 colors and very small, a very short handled small eyeshadow brush, eyeliner, a mini mascara like you get in free gifts or samples, a mini lipstick in a fairly neutral color, and a mini gloss in a brighter color so I could layer it over the lipstick if I wanted an oomphier look.
It hardly took up any space, and there were times I was very glad to have it.
What I also did was go to Sephora and the Body Shop and got a few samples of things like Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel, clay masks, etc. They give them to you in tiny little containers that are only 1 or 2 uses and you can throw the containers out when you're done, but still be pampering your skin (and it's going to need it with all the changes in water, and stresses of travel, etc.). I actually kept the containers so that next time I travel I can fill them with my own products.

| I spent some time in Europe once and I took Neutrogena tinted moistuizer (great coverage/moisturizer/sunscreen in one) and a concealer...mascara and a tinted lipbalm (MAC I think). Have fun! |

Jane Iredale makes the one-for-all kits and complete color, one or the other would slip easily into a backpack.

I would also take pressed amazing base, lip balm (probably a few Prada no 5 cause they're tiny), and Eve Lom cleanser (can get tiny pots of this as well). Mascara if you need it. Good to go for makeup and skincare. Have a good time! |
