I had my ears pierced when I was a kid, but once I was in my 20's I no longer liked to wear earings or much jewelry at all. I would like to start wearing them again but it's been like 8 years since I've been wearing them. Can I do it or do I need to get the holes redone? I am kind of worried about trying to force an earing in there with the scar tissue because I'm worried that something will happen, like it will start bleeding or I'll get an infection or something. I don't know what the rule here is. Thanks. |

BYRG I wear earings maybe once a year and push the post thru the hole. There is no bleeding or infection - irritation yes.
I would try to use the existing pierce hole first just make sure your earings and earlobes are clean - use some rubbing alcohol. |

BYRG, I used to get infections alot when I was a kid, so stopped wearing pierced earrings around age 9 or 10. Then in my early twenties, I took a pair of earrings with a fairly thin post, and was able to push them through the old holes. It was as if the scar tissue had formed a little tube to allow the earrings to slide through.
We recently did this with my mom as well. She's 74, and has probably not worn earrings since she was in her early 60s.
Like Alley, mom and I had a little redness and irritation. I've been wearing pierced earrings regularly with no problems since then! For me, it turned out to be a nickel allergy...as long as I stay with 14K gold or better, no probs. And, as Alley stated, be sure to disinfect the jewelry AND the earlobes with some rubbing alcohol. |

I only wear earrings and then I don't, sometimes for years! When I haven't worn them for some time I use use a bit of neosporin with a little to a more forceful push if I feel resistance. Guess I am a masochist:-)Hope that helps! |

I haven't been wearing any of my earrings for a months now. My earlobes are stretched out from heavy earrings. Any suggestions? |
