Homedmade skincare is the best IMO.
So i was thinking to start a thread on carrier oils/properties. There are so many.
I follow aruvyeda alot and Im mainly a pitta and should use coconut oil but it doesnt really do anything for me.
So i think my next move will be sweet almond oil.
I have a lot of scars, and don't heal easily and am acne prone on back and some parts of face (though I thinks its PCOS) and oil control is not an issue (too bad i already bought declear ylang night baum and now its super drying ahhh waste of 60)
But I wanted to say; if you like/dont like and oil please say WHY. Its so hard when people do what I just did when I said I did't like coconut oil (co) ....no explanation; that doesnt help you make buying decisions!
So I didnt like the CO b/c because I would it put it on my legs in bed and wake up with dry skin. Also I was told to put in on after cold shower after the sauna and i think my skin sorta "broke out" not reallly acne but when you get those little bumps filled with CO. I also heard to always put CO on right after bathing b/c you need some water for it to absorb.
Thanks everyone and I look forward to learning more about the wide wide world of carrier oils! |

However, I'm also on Retin-A and Triluma, so there's a lot of peeling.
Skin
Grapeseed Oil - Incredibly penetrative and not at all oily. Even when I accidentally use too much, it disappears; no breakouts. I mix it with aloe vera gel for a nighttime moisturizer. Also used at 65% in my OCM.
Sweet Almond Oil - Another non-greasy oil that hasn't broken me out so far. a little greasier than grapeseed, but still a good recommendation for oily skin. Oh, I also used this on my healing tattoo (mixed with aloe vera gel), and it was a great hydrator. I experienced no color loss.
Avocado Oil - Clearly too oily for everyday use, but it's great for tender, peeling patches that need a little help. Used very sparingly, no breakouts.
Hair
Avocado Oil - Again, heavy stuff, but makes a great addition to conditioners for a deeper treatment. I also use it at about 5% for my homemade daily hair spritz.
Instead of typing more, I'll just recommend all of the above for hair. |
