i used to have terrible excema as a baby/child and it seems to run in my family for the children. (in the colder weather countries)
it disappeared and i didn't have it for years, and now i am starting to get it in between my fingers and bits in other places. it is only small areas at the moment, and although i didn't want to the chemist said it was contact dermititis and i should use steroid cream on it. i have been doing so with no improvement.
does anyone know any other ways to get rid of it before it starts to get worse? i really don't want to be excema ridden again! any home-made or other remedies you know of without having to resort to hardcore steroids.
(god seems to be the month of my skincare woes!)
many thanks! |

I have the same thing that occurs between my fingers....primarily between the pinky and ring finger on my right hand. It comes and goes for no apparent reason and started about a year ago. Sometimes it gets bad and is very painful--sensitive to water, heat, cold--and has turned very red. My dermatologist thinks that it's caused by too much hand-washing. I do wash my hands frequently, but I never thought I was fanatical about it, and I use a mild, moistuizing hand soap, and apply lotion after washing. My derm prescribed a topical ointment with .1% Triamcinolone, which is a corticosteroid. It has healed the area, and I'm continuing to apply a tiny drop morning and night to, hopefully, keep it that way! |

hmmmm thanks guys.
i'm thinking it could be hand washing. i am a clean freak. and although i am trying to switch to natural solutions to cleaning products it's not happened yet and i still use harsh products (and sometimes without gloves yes!) and i am guessing it is that but i don't understand how it would happen suddenly - i guess it isn't sudden i've been wearing my hands away over the years. i will try and stop.
it is really itchy and i want to scratch my fingers off....arghhhh
did Penzime work for you Dia? |

Mine came on rather sudden as well and now it seems that I'm suseptible to flare ups. Another tip that the derm gave me is to use a sanitizing gel, like Purell, instead of soap and water. I do keep Purell hand sanitizer in my car, and my bag, when a sink with hand wash is not available, but have not used this as a substitute. I wonder if those creamy body washes are more gentle than the conditioning liquid hand soaps that I use? |

Penzim is my miracle-product...I discovered it in march, when I was ending in the hospital with a very very bad sun-allergie. It took a lot of prednison to make me look normal again. At that time my skin was so sensitive, not tolerating anything..Then I tried the penzime. It moisterized my skin very deep and makes it healthy again. I still use it at night (it is sticky)Sometimes I mix it with vit.A.I also use it for my seborroisch excema. And it realy helps.

I was reading about Penzim, seems like quite a product, but I was wondering, for the price it seems like a pretty small bottle, 3.5 oz. Does this lotion last for a while, my excema is pretty much all over my body, it comes and goes in small places and I would probably use a fair amount. Right now it is on my sholders, neck and head mostly.

well ladies eczema its a skin condition wiht no cure ,acording to modern medecin ... the worst its that eczema travel w/in your body to other areas...as hard as it is ,try not to scratch ,and SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT < DO NOT USE CORTISONE !!! cortisone only thins yout skin making it weak , so next time eczema comes around it will be worst and will take longer to heal.
people w/ eczema found mcuh relif taking MSM capsules 3 times a day and borage oil / witch has hight consentration of gla ,an oil that helps to moist your skin from inside out .
also eczema suffers are low in zincand biotin .
try not to shower everyday ,and when you do make sure to mosturize w/in 3 min lots of jojoba oil ,or coconut oil , mosturize, mosturize this helps to keep the itchin low . ah ! NO Sugar at all in case you have candidia...
I hope this helps |

hey!
My older sister used to have excema, and it seemed to be stress related... Could that be the case for you as well? I really don't know much about excema but I hope you soon get better |

yusufoman, if nothing else has changed it could be the washing, I'm always rinsing my hands and have found if I use regular detergents that my hands get dry and break out. They do go better on their own but it is annoying. Also using latex gloves may irritate them further.
Occasionly use of a steriod cream should be ok but don't stick with it as it leads to thinning of the skin! |

Found the topic very interesting as I concur with the views on stress and excema. I know there are a number of Rooibos (south african herbal tea) gels that work effectively. There is also a company called Secomet that have done some research on short-chain plant acids and the treatment of more serious excemas |

erikag I agree that you need to treat from inside out with any skin complaint.
Roobus tea bags added to the bath are especially good for soothing irritated skin are recomended for people suffering from excema, try making a homemade toner from roobus tea. |

Is 3,5 OZ the same as 100 ml..?? A little goes a long way. For my face I use the gel, can do my hole face with one drop.It does not sink in the skin rightaway, you can rub it out very well.
Here in Holland I pay 40 euro for 1 bottle.
I heard from someone in canada that it cost there 35 CAD.and in U.S.A. $30.

my doctor said that it was excema and that it was open so much that now it has been infected. i am so horrified. i hope it doesn't come back to the severity that i used to have it as a child (i.e. all over covered in bandages like a mummy - it does run in my family) as i thought i would have grown out of it. if it is coming back i want to stop the onset. i do wash my hands ALOT and i need to probably change that to non soap formula. change my shower formulations etc.
at the moment it is quite bad all the areas that i have it have started to weep and are ripped open. it hurts so much! i am finding the jojoba oil works. i have been given an antibiotic cream. after that i was told to use the steroid creams.
i don't know if i can find penzim here. maybe i'll check with the doctor. do you think that skincare can cause a problem. even though i am not getting excema on my face, but on my fingers and my ear. i have been using products for years. but then i've been using detergents for years. it has just come out of the blue.
arghhh! i'm quite worried. i hope this isn't the start of something worse! |

hello Yusufosman,
Listen to your doctor first...ou may NOT use penzim on open wounds....But next time( I hope for you it takes a very long time ) when you feel the excemia is comming, then you can use the penzim.I know all the corticosteroids
are rubbish but now your hands have open wounds follow your doctors advice. Wish you the best, hope you get better soon.
Warm regards from Holland

yusufosman- also think about your shampoo!
I used to wonder why after using lush henna+cocoa butter why my hands would break out since it's a natural dye....hadn't thought that I had to shampoo my hair about 6 times to get the gunk out, that kind of washing can strip the skin of it's oils.
Hope you heal up soon. |

hello Yusufosman..
Now I'm thinking to an other thing...Do you wear a lot off rings on your fingers???Not now you have open wounds but I mean when your hands are healed.
A friend of mine does and she also has regulary excemia..She wears a lot (10 ;)rings
and when she washes her hands the skin from her fingers stays wet..And that gives the excemia a nice start..

no i don't wear any thing no watches or rings. (things annoy me and i always end up taking them off!)
i haven't thought about my shampoo, it is rather nice (Rusk if anyone knows that brand) but it is a standard detergent shampoo. what could i use instead to wash me hair? i don't have much money at the moment and hence why i can't change many products.
it could be the shampoo eve as it is my fingers and my ear! |

your might be getting flair ups from certain products like other people have said.. i used to have eczema on my face pretty bad for a few years but it has gone away for about a year now.. but i have gotten a flair up a few times from using st ives apricot scrub because its so harsh..i think there must of been an ingredient in it that didnt agree with my skin because usually my skin isnt sensitive at all. |

pharmacy2u.co.uk stock Penzim, Yusuf.
I did a search for it myself, as my hands suffer terribly in the winter and become very sore and cracked. I'm hoping to try it and see if if helps me.
I've never used the pharmacy2u site before, but it seemed to be the best price I could find. I think it's about £23 or £24 on other UK websites.
You have my sympathy, as does everyone else with eczema. I hope this Penzim stuff will keep our skin in check. |

I'm just about to order some for myself, Yusuf. This cold snap in the weather is starting to make my hands feel dry and itchy already.
Please let me know how you get on with it and I'll also post my results after I've tried it.
Dia - pharmacy2u.co.uk also seem to deliver overseas. Perhaps you could try there. Apparently, they give you the delivery charge amount on the checkout page so you could see whether it works out cheaper for you than buying it in the Netherlands?
And thanks for the recommendation! |

Eczema is just skin lacking moisture ladies. Also as you become older, skin gets thinner. What did bother you in your 20s & 30s bugs you to death later on. I know! So all the hocus pocus type products don't work. You need to use emollient type products with moisture attractants such as hyauloronic acid serums (the purer the better)or add sodium pca to your hand creams. You can purchase these at your local natural health or vitamin stores. |

thanks majorb re: discount code.
i do agree with you susie, but i am only 22, i could be getting less resiliant, but maybe it's to early for me to start worrying about ageing. i already lead a healthy lifestyle which is most important. apart from that i do want to cut out all these excess chemicals in my life. it is more difficult that i thought. mind i would save a ton on those cleaning products which are so expensive! |
