Okay, as I confessed in an earlier post regarding a homemade pre-shaving exfoliator, I suffer from terrible ingrown hairs on my legs. Everytime I'd shave, I get a new batch of red bumps and ingrowns. Religious use of the pre-shave exfoliator and home-made Tend Skin before and after shaving have helped significantly.
But while I was on my quest for shaving products to help with this, I stumbled across Zirh shave gel. This is a men's product, but I've completely fallen in love with it...before discovering Zirh, I'd been using King of Shaves shave gel, which I thought was the best I'd ever used, but I was wrong! I'm not sure exactly what ingredient it is, but there's something in the Zirh which actually helps the hair stand up straight so that your razor can cut the hair off as close to the skin's surface as possible. I have to say that the Zirh shave gel has given me the closest shave I've ever experienced! My leg hair is pretty coarse and dense (though thankfully it's pretty light in color), so normally I can feel the leg stubble start to raise it's ugly head in a matter of hours which means that I have to shave my legs on a daily basis to keep them smooth (which is a pain in the hindquarters in the summer when I want to use a self-tanner because I end up "shaving" my tan away! ) but since I've been using Zirh, I can go 48-72 hours without a shave!!
I know, some of you are scratching your heads and wondering why I don't wax or use a depilitory cream. The answer is because, in my experience, waxing makes the ingrowns worse and my leg hair seems to be "resistant" to products like Nair or Veet. I buy the strongest formula I can find and leave it on for the maximum allotted time, but my hair just does not come away...I also must have some kind of allergy the the chemicals in these products because I invariably end up with a rash or some kind of chemi-burn.
So until I can come up with a couple thousand bucks so I can afford laser hair removal for my legs (if I ever when the lotto, that will be my first splurge because I'd rather give birth to a flaming porcupine than have to shave my legs every day for the rest of my life!!!!), I'm stuck with my razor.
Also, I've noticed there have been a few topics that discussed those shave minimzing lotions...I've tried many of them but haven't seen any results. I'm interested in trying King of Shave's "Vanishair" product, but I can't find it at any of my local retailers. Has any used this and -- more importantly -- has it worked?
