My fine thin hair is breaking off almost at the roots. This was happening prior to changing to Biolage Fortifying Shampoo and conditioner several weeks ago. The Biolage hasn't helped. I need some help |

So sorry. Can you tell us more about what is going on? Is your hair damaged from coloring? Have you been ill? How is your diet? What about stress. I know these are a lot of questions but it helps everyone in regard to their response. |

Oh Salli, I'm so sorry. I'm with Winnie on her questions.
What helped me (I had no diet or health issue that I knew of) is Carekate's Rosemary Hair Growth Accelerator oil and taking GNC Hair, Skin and Nails Supplements in addition to my regular multivitamins. I also recently switched to sulfate-free shampoo/conditioner. I sincerely hope you can find a solution. All the best. |

Agent OO-cat, which shampoo and conditioner do you use? Do you have fine thin hair? |

salli my hair is BABY fine and I color it. For a few months I have been using a product by WEN. I first heard of conditioning shampoos on EDS but I found what other woman were using did not work for my fragile hair. WEN's Sweet Almond Mint for fine hair leaves my hair conditioned, very shiny and my color holds like never before. My hair has never looked as healthy.
Try to eat more fruits and veggies. Our diet does reflect in our skin and hair. I too need to get better in the wise eating department.

I use Paves no sulfate allowed shampoo and conditioner. I'm also testing a shampoo Carekate made to accompany her Rosemary Hair Growth Accelerator. I've added rosemary E.Os to the Paves and was also going to add the seakelp that Katee raves about but then started Carekate's shampoo, which is just as nice as the Paves.
I've also tried Nioxin shampoo - it didn't do much for me but a lot of people swear by it. There's also another similar brand but I'm blanking on the name right now.
You know the rote - reduce stress etc. Good luck! |

I've tried Nioxin and wasn't impressed. Which Paves are you using? |

I thought it would but not at all~~~Candy also tried the WEN http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?tid=19695
I think the difference is that this product was made for cleansing. It is not like taking a conditioner we have at home and try to shampoo with. |

Six years ago, I was under a great deal of long term stress & huge clumps started falling out. I started using the generic women's rogain from Walmart. It really helped. I know some people don't care for the women's formaula, but it worked really well for me when it was stress related. Best wishes. Sorry you are under such stress. |

Cool, just ordered the travel variety pack of the Wen cleansing conditioners. Will try them out and report. Cleansing conditioners sound like a good idea for my dry curly hair. So far I've been using sulfate free and natural shampoos and have been happier willing to try something new.
BTW, I wasn't impressed with Nioxin either, though it has helped some people. (I have two bottles for those who do like it )
I've also tried TheraPro, my cousin swears by their shampoo and leave-in spray, and another cousin-in-law who does hair sprays some people with it before cutting/ styling. The spray is the circulation booster stuff, but it gave my hair a funny texture feel and I'd get red along my hairline which I understand is normal. |

I hate to be so negative, but from what I have heard about rogaine when you stop using it your hair falls out again. I've used Therapro and it helped a little, however, when I had my hair highlighted it burned liked the devil. |

Hi salli,
yes, I have fine, thin hair.
I use
Paves Professional - FLAWless No Sulfates Allowed Repairing Shine Shampoo For Dry Damaged Hair
and
Paves Professional - FLAWless Un-Damaged Goods Deep Repairing Conditioning Milk For Dry Damaged Hair
IMO, the vitamins and Carekate's oil saved my hair. I wish you all the best. |

Perhaps some protein treatments may help if you hair is breaking. That's usually a sign of poor structure or lack there of. Maybe some MSM or Biotin could also help. |

I just started taking GNC Hair Skin & Nails yesterday. It has alot of biotin in it. I'm looking forward to the SK to put in my shampoo. I'm experimenting with shampooing with conditioner. I did it this morning and my hair looks great. We'll see what it looks like this afternoon that will tell the story. Stupid Question- can you put biotin in shampoo? If so, where do you get it? |

Agent OO-CAT, I can't even get a pm to carekate. Do you think just adding the eo to the shampoo would work? I've spent so much money on stuff that hasn't worked and I'm very frustrated at this point. |

Hi salli. I too have very fine hair and also very little amount of hair. On top of this, I highlight my hair with BLEACH, which is probably every woman's hair worst enemy. My hair used to break a lot until I started to get bi-weekly treatments of a product from Scenscience called CPR. It's a 2 step process which not only repairs and seals the hair's cuticle (to repair it) but also makes it stronger. My salon charges from $15-$20 for the treatment and so I just go in, get the treatment done, and leave with my hair wet.
You can also try purchasing it, but Scenscience only sells it by the gallon which costs about $60 per gallon and it's 2 steps so it would be $60 x 2. Also, you need to put get 15 minutes of heat with each step so unless you have a heat dryer or heat cap in your home, this might be a bit complicated.
You can also try getting sample sizes on ebay.I got a pretty good deal on Ebay but again, you will need to get 15 minutes of heat with each step so keep this in mind if you do go for the samples.
Again, my hair is very fine and very delicate, almost like an old lady's hair, and I bleach it on top of it all, and I have to say, this has done wonders on my hair. Lots of people who have known me for years comment on it all the time. |

Hi Salli,
I don't know about adding biotin to the shampoo. I think you need it internally. Keep taking the vitamins.
I think that adding rosemary essential oil to the shampoo would be a great start. I don't know if I'm off base but I add something like 12-20 drops to a bottle of shampoo. A basic recipe for Carekate's oil was posted by ariesextreme and it's in the DIY section. Besides the "secret ingredient", it definitely contains rosemary E.O and the seakelp, I believe.
Avocado oil and coconut oil are great for the hair and skin.
Best

A weird question for whoever can answer it:
Can one eat seakelp? Would it help internally? |

OO-CAT, I think sea kelp and sea weed are the same thing. I also think that sushi is wrapped in something similar to sea kelp. I have some of the SK biofermente ordered. |

I love seaweed..yum yum. I thought sea kelp was either sea weed or a derivative of it to some extent.
Taking seaweed internally has great health benefits. |

Ariesxtreme, I've tried to search for the recipe for shampoo and the only thing I can find is 20 drops of rosemary oil in a bottle of shampoo. Is there a secret ingredient that I don't know of? |

Aries, tell us about edible seaweed. Surely, one can't eat the skinactives seakelp right? Do you buy some from a japanese supermarket? What health benefits does it have? |
