Is there any method or lotions/products that can be used that will ensure smooth skin - little or no itching or irritation?
I tried shaving and I am miserably itchy and irritated.
Thanks, BF |

Have you tried any products to prevent razor burn and itching? They sell them near the shaving cream in any drug store and did the trick for me. |

It is soooooo easy to wax that area, and at the same time you are decreasing the hair growth. The more you wax, the less hair you will have and the time inbetween gets longer and longer.
Go to Sally's Beauty Supply and buy their beeswax. Heat it in a sauce pan with boiling water (not over the edge of the wax container.) Once the wax in the container is melted, using a popsicle stick, test a drop on your wrist and if it doesn't burn, smooth over the bikini area's in 2 inch strips, give it 15 seconds to dry, and pull. Piece o' cake! Been doing this for 30 years...ain't no hair left here!! |

Irritation is common in this area I think. I think waxing is best. I use BHA (Paula's choice 2% liquid) days before and atleast a week after waxing to prevent bumps. |

I use 'hard wax' which is very clean, compared to hot wax. You heat and apply as a normal wax, but it dries to a solid so you can remove both the wax and hair at the same time without any waxing paper. I always follow up waxing with a gentle essential oil, such as clary sage, which I find non irritating when used neat on the skin. |

I have used NADS for years and love it. It is a non heat thin gel that you smear on the area, lay a peice of material on it, rub it, then just rip off. It is so quick and only hurts like mad for a second. The kit also contains a soothing cream to apply after. Wal-mart sells it. http://www.nads.com/ |

I need to seriously stop reading these threads! You ladies inspired me to go out and buy a hardwax kit from Sally's as mountaingirl suggested, (although I forgot the part of her advice about the beeswax and bought a brazilian kit). I have to say I had never been in a Sally's before I could have spent all day and hundreds of dollars in there. I signed up for a frequent buyer card because I will be back!!!
My plan was to start on my legs to hone my technique before I attempted the bikini area.
This was nothing but an exercise in futility; unless you consider having hardwax permanently implanted under my finger nails.
I used over half the pot of wax on just the front of my shins and removed less than half the hair. I tried to apply the wax thick, thin, medium with the same terrible results.
Any advice would be appreciate.... |

Try NADS....seriously, this stuff is so easy to use. It's like waxing without the heat. I think a tub is something like $20. I only use it in the bikini area so it last for months. No need to heat, just dip the wand, smooth a thin layer in the area, lay the cloth on top, rub for a few seconds then pull off. Then you have the NADS on the cloth so I will then press the cloth on my legs over and over until it won't pick up any more hair. Then I just shave my legs after to get any hair I missed. One thing though...I find I use the tub for so long that eventually the NADS starts to harden in the tub so I just stick in the microwave for a few seconds and it thins right out again. |

Does it hurt when you rip the NADS off? |

That is what I am wondering. Just from the experience of trying to rip off wax that is still too warm..... |

I am a baby when it comes to this and would rather shave if it hurts too bad. |

Just for a second. I don't have a huge pain threshold and it's bearable for me. Just make sure you hold the skin taute when you rip. And I don't reapply on the same area, only rip only. |

Ok I will keep that in mind. Does anyone know where they sell NADS in the US? Does Sally Beauty Supply have it? |

the hard wax I buy is by the brand "andrea" which is similar to "nair". not sure how readily available this brand is in the US.
i have tried "nads" before, and it only works on soft hairs, but once they grow resistant, nads does nothing for them... forget bikini line hair. |

Alley...I can't figure out why it didn't work for you. You melt the wax and while it is still quite warm and liquid (but moving towards solid) you smooth a layer on IN THE DIRECTION the hair is growing, using a tongue depresser, popsicle stick or applicator. Let that strip dry, then slightly pull up the (lower) edge of the strip to get a grip on it ( you are going to pull against the direction of the hair) and PULL quick! It shouldn't even hurt if you do it fast enough. I tried NADS before and threw it out. It absolutely didn't work for me. They used to advirtise it on infomercials in the US...not sure if its still available here. |

LOL I thought that is what I did do. I couldn't get the wax to come up cleanly. A little would come up then but not the whole strip. I tried small strips, longer strips but neither worked!!
After wasting 2 hrs doing this I remembered clearly why I had spent $1500 getting laser hair removal 4 yrs ago!! The laser took care of most of my bikini line but there are some stray hairs that I used a Nair wax product on - that worked fine there but not really on my legs. |

NADS can be found at CVS in the US.
For my bikini line, the best product was a hard wax (I think it was called Andrea's?) from the waxing section at CVS.
I don't like shaving that area, so I use a bikini trimmer, and when I get the chance, get a brazilian done. Once the brazilian is done professionally, it is not painful to get it done again (or do it yourself)...but if you wait too long, and the hair gets too thick - then it is as painful as the first time!
Oh - and an extra strength tylenol half an hour before waxing helps too!
One more thing - I've used NADs - in the jar, and the strips that have the wax already applied. I've found that it is good for arm and leg hair, but not strong enough for bikini-line hair.. |
